Disney Pixar CARS: Make Your Own 1:1 Scale Mater, Lightning & Sally

The Hagerty Insurance Agency has posted an updated interview with Eddie Paul who created the life sized driveable Mater, Lightning & Sally …

So if you have a “big-block ’77 Chevy dually pickup,” …

And the windshield?

“The windshield for Tow Mater was made from clear acrylic and had a vinyl wrap added to the outside by Ape Wraps. This allowed the driver to see out, although people outside the truck could not see in.”

I’m guessing this is not street legal in most cases but let us know how far you get before being pulled over 🙂

The rest of the interview is LINKED HERE.

Our original post with links to Eddie Paul’s instruction books & DVD’s plus how to Photoshop your Own Car 🙂

Any word on if there will be a Cars 2011 Road Trip like last time, MET? Am I too far ahead of myself? Can’t wait!

(MET: Yea, I would think so … I’m sure they’ll have new CARS to show off … unless you;re referring to my 3rd place finish in the 2005 Cannonball Run 🙂 ).

    Ladies & Gentlecars,

Yeah, small world as his shop used to be a couple miles from Mattel, drove by it every day going home. It closed several months ago…………

something wasn’t right about that MCQ profile tho, not sure if it was scaled up correctly. I was it up at Pixar once when I saw it and my first instinct was to bust out tape measure and see where it was off.

I think the A pillars were too high and there wasn’t enough tumblehome/angle of the window from door to roof. Otherwise referred to as the “Greenhouse”. Mater’s easier to cheat.

Reminds me of the full sized Toy Fair version of Skeletor’s evil MOTU Land Shark I designed/developed 27 years ago, probably in a landfill somewhere 🙂

That would be so much fun driving around McQueen. It would probably cause a few car wrecks going down the highway. 🙂

(MET: Kids would swarm around you like you were Santa 🙂 … though like Santa, you could only get out of your McQueen when no kids are looking – otherwise they might start crying 🙂 … or maybe that’s just me).

We’ve been Cars fans since opening night June 9, 2006, but I still kick myself for missing the nationwide tour with 1:1 scale Mack, Lightning, and Sally. It came through St. Louis that July but I found out a couple days late. 🙁
