Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Kmart CARS Day 2 – The Sunday TakeFive FAQ

Since a lot of people seem to be out there spreading rumors, here are some things to keep in mind.

When is it shipping?

Mr. Dev Mukherjee, SVP & President Toys & Seasonal Business Unit has announced they will begin shipping on June 19, 2009 (Friday prior to event).

Why not sooner?

It would detract from people going to the event and getting it FIRST. Plus the official release date is June 20,2009.

Will there be a third pre-sale?

This is MY OPINION but no. Dev & Kmart have been very upfront about the whole process and after the last sell-out, if there was another large quantity to offer as a general pre-sale, he would’ve said something. Now, shipments are being sent to the stores, etc … plus the general pre-sale has served it purpose, to a) build buzz and b) to sell off ‘extras’ like last year’s post event sale.

Does this mean some stores will not get enough boxes?

The pre-sale probably sold off about the amount they had left over from last year’s post event – don’t worry, there are still some 18,000+ cases headed to the 2,200ish Kmart’s out there.

Of course, not every store will get the same amount so they do not just divide by evenly. Larger stores will get more and other stores will get fewer.

How early should I go to the event on June 20, 2009?

OFFICIALLY, they are supposed to draw numbers at 11 AM and you go in the order of your drawn number. So, you might show up at 10:58 and draw a low number or show up at 8:30 AM and draw a high number.

WARNING – there are stores that aren’t going to follow the official, guidelines so you probably want to show up at least by 10:30 and scope out the situation … the official guidelines are from this memo from last year’s event … maybe you want to bring a copy? 🙂

At today’s collector’s event, a fellow collector mentioned something about there being a “rarest” car in today’s Kmart #2 release. I forgot what it is (seeing how today was the first event I have attended). Is anyone ‘up” on how many of each car was produced? It seemed that there were the fewest of the LT Pistons cars when everyone left the store.

(MET: Someone at my store was convinced that shifty drug & clutch aid white rims were some sort of variant chase … um, no … but feel free to collect them as such 🙂 …).

  • Lorri says:

So which car is going to be the most sought after? Clutch Aid or LT Pistons? Will mini be released again soon? I need a priority list to give the kids! Will Vitoline Pitty suffer the fate of most previous pittys to become instant pegwarmers? Is the Mario chase even worth getting? (does it have the red rims?) Help!
Also non Cars related but newsworthy, Portland, OR will be again having World Naked Bike Riding. It is a “well established tradition” and therefore legal, as ruled by a Multnomah County judge. Google WNBR and check it out for yourself. It is considered a form of free speech and a protest against fossil fuels. I think Ill skip it this year. Too uncomfortable.

    • Lorri, My priority list would be as follows:

Highest Priority – Piston Cup Racers only 1 per case
      – Piston Cup Racers 2 per case
Lowest Priority – Mario, Mini & Vitoline Pitty

Just my opinion and what we will be going for at our KMart.

    • 5oclockshadow says:

Go for the McQueen first! 🙂

Actually, I like slice’s line of thinking, except I would probably go for Mini and Vitoline over Shifty Drug.

    • PirateDad says:

Lorri, my priority wood be, shaving my body for a more streamlined bike riding experience, less wind drag!

After that I wood focus on the Unreleased Piston Cup Racers…but when it comes to my kids, I let them pick whichever ones they want, regardless of my wants or needs, makes them feel better about the decisions they make!

  • Deal or no cars says:

MET .. WE NEED TO get THE list of involves Stores !!!!

  • stephencc says:

in the pre-sale cases, it doesn’t have Bumper Save, Shifty Drugs and Mood Spring in them?
    please help!

    thank you

  • Andy says:

Good GOD, Who cares about the rubber tires!!! Why can’t I just get these dang Cars like all the rest?!?! Why are they so hard to find? why are they so hard to get?! I HATE THAT I GOT INTO THIS COLLECTION!!

  • LiamsMom says:

We are excited! It will be our first Cars day. Hopefully, we will do well.

  • rpag says:

    Hey MET,

Any word about a link to participating stores? We had this last year and I don’t think anyone has seen it yet this year.

(MET: The link from last week should be as good – as in – it’s a starting point but you definitely want to verify store is open, still a Kmart 9and not Sears) and participating – link to main Kmart II blog post ahs link to spreadsheet).

  • Roswell says:

wouldnt it be good if they released a 2nd MSOTS set but with all verant cars, like some dented and some looking scared and bashed, #it can have the LMQ without back tires, damaged king and a laughing chick!

    • PirateDad says:

      That wood be cool!

Damaged Mood Springs should have a button that says “Put me in Coach, I can still race!!”

I am willing to settle for another Speedway Set with ALL Rubber Tires…. then at least it is sticking with the letter of the first release!

With a few People in the stands or in field too!!!

  • Monica says:

Me too Jeff, plus my little guy that loves Cars the most had to stay home with strep throat last year.

and…I am totally pulling a PD this year and making off with one of the signs too 🙂

as Mater would say, this is going to be fuuuuu-uuuun!

    • PirateDad says:

Just remember, we asked FIRST, and they said NO, cuz the Kmart LOGO was on it, so we asked them to cut the Logo off, and then she said she could not do that…so we asked what they were gonna do with the poster and she said, “Throw it out!”, so we took it!

Hey Dev…GIVE ThE Posters AWAY…WE WANT THEM!!!!

Monica, if there are two, yoink one for me too, since I will not be able to make it this time!

    • buckland-blowouts says:

      Rebel, rebel…

      Showin’ off that pinstrippin’…

Yeah – I’ll take the third off your hands!~!~!~

  • jestrjef says:

I cannot wait to take the kids to this! It was soooooo much fun last year and my kids are now a year older . . . and WISER!! 🙂

  • Laurence says:

wasn’t able to get online for the first presale and could not get through for almost an hour on the second presale – and to top it off, the nearest kmart from here is 122 miles….maybe next year….

    • PirateDad says:

Man up DUDE! Last time I drove 160 miles one way, and crossed a border, went to 4 different Kmarts that day and bought over 10 cars… (just in case my wife reads this, I may have fudged the number a bit)

(MET: I’ll be your wingman. I know it was 9, I counted (as high as I could but she doesn’t need to know that).

  • Hey Met,
Anyway to confirm whether or not Lightning McQueen will have rubber tires? He is, after all, still a Piston Cup Racer…

(MET: 99.9999% sure no rubber tires).

  • samurai60 says:

Remember to get your contribution in for Kevin’s gift!

  • Ooh, did I win? Ok, now I’ll go back and read the post – 😆
