/SIGNIN NAME? Lorri

/BIO?
I am 44 year old stay home mom. Used to be a graphics/prepress/color correction artist for printing company. These are our 2 kids, Steven, 7 and Carmen, 5.

/WHEN DID YOU START?
We started collecting them before we saw the movie. I saw the diecasts in a Longs Drugs on a display rack and loved them. So I bought all the different ones they had. I thought, my husband is going to “You know what” when he finds out I spent $50 on toy cars. I knew my son would love them as much as I did. Funny, $50 doesnt seem that bad now……..Also Im pretty sure he never found out!

/WHAT WAS THE FIRST CAR YOU GOT?
I think we got most of the first desert backs all at one time, except for Lizzie. Of course we opened them right away.

/HOW LONG BEFORE YOU HAD CAR #2?
Probably a couple months later.

/WHEN DID YOU DECIDE/REALIZE YOU NEEDED MORE THAN ONE?

Right away!

/WHEN DID YOU REALIZE YOU HAD TO GO BIG INTO THIS THING?

After we finally saw the movie, which was when the DVD came out. My son is autistic so we cant go to theaters. After we got the DVD he watched the movie every day. And then those darn supercharged cards kept showing new ones on the back……Then we started having problems when one would get lost or damaged, so I thought we’d better keep “spares”…..so now we have to always buy 2……but then if we have to open one to replace a damaged one then we have to replace the unopened one…….then somehow the unopened ones became “my” collection…..

/WHAT WAS THE CRAZIEST THING YOU’VE HEARD ABOUT COLLECTING THESE CARS? (NEVER YOU, SOME OTHER PERSON’S CRAZY STORY 🙂 ).
People paying $1500 on ebay for the MSOS set! But before that, me paying 300$ for the MSOS set!!! AND – all the sneaking around hiding these that I, oops, I mean you guys, all do to prevent detection of how massive the collection becomes.

/WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE CAR?
Definitely the Ramones. Right now its Hydraulic Ramone, the colors of red on it are beautiful.

/WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR TO ADD TO YOUR COLLECTION?

All the newest ones, after Case C. But especially the mega-Ramone! Cannot wait for that one! It has been really fun sharing stories and thoughts about these Cars with this group. You guys rock!

SAY HI TO Mia, Tia & NJM (Thanks for buying our book! 🙂 And yes, I like chewing on my CARS also – numm, numm, numm 🙂 ).

BIO?
I’m Nancy and I am the wife of one man for 41 years, mother of three girls, grandmother of five-four boys and one girl.  All of whom get that glazed-eyes look when I start talking Cars.  Love adopted grandmother to five-year old and 14 month old girls (now they’re the ones who “get it”). Although one grandson has asked for my collection when I’m dead. 🙂 Love NCIS, all the CSIs, Criminal Minds, Numbers and The Mentalist and NASCAR racing.  I also collect bears (since I was eight), seashells (which is weird since I live in Kansas), some NASCAR diecast and some iris (the flower) things.  I make baby things to sell in our local Creations Gallery, love playing Cars with the five-year old and taking care of the 14 month old.  I teach the middle school Bible class at our church and sponsor the youth retreat in the spring.  I am addicted to Take5–made it my home page–and am loving the bios with pictures.

WHEN DID YOU START?
I actually started with the McD’s Happy Meal LMQ and then got into diecast.

WHAT WAS THE FIRST CAR YOU GOT?
Other than the McD’s set, I started with Mater in the diecast.

HOW LONG BEFORE YOU HAD CAR #2?
Bought a whole bunch the first day.

WHEN DID YOU DECIDE/REALIZE YOU NEEDED MORE THAN ONE?
When they made more than one.

WHEN DID YOU REALIZE YOU HAD TO GO BIG INTO THIS THING?
When I found out about the SOS set.  I made a deal with my husband to buy two sets and if I couldn’t sell the second set for enough to pay for both sets, I would sell my set. I still have my set.

WHAT WAS THE CRAZIEST THING YOU’VE HEARD ABOUT COLLECTING THESE CARS? (NEVER YOU, SOME OTHER PERSON’S CRAZY STORY).
Someone bought an eBay, overpriced, purple Ramone before they knew much about collecting and how easy they were to get!

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE CAR?
Mia and Tia, of course. And Mater.  Ya gotta love Mater.  And I love how the pitty’s look with their respective cars.

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR TO ADD TO YOUR COLLECTION?
Dustin, Gray and Night Vision McQ.

SAY HI TO Glenn H. with son Dylan and some dude pretending to be Petty 🙂

glenn-h

Sign in name: Glenn H.

Bio:
My name is Glenn.  I am 38 years old and currently serving in the U.S. Navy. I have been married over 16 years to the love of my life, Heather.  Together, we have two children, Morgan who is 15 and Dylan who is 8.  We just recently moved to San Diego, CA from Virginia Beach, VA.  The drive across the Country was an adventure to say the least, but we were able to see many sights along the way, including driving on ole Route 66!  Dylan and I are the collectors of the family.  We originally started out with diecast Ford Mustangs, which we now have over 400+ in various scales, and then added Disney/Pixar CARS.  Our families free time is spent crafting, playing sports, skateboarding, and planning our next big CARS hunt!

ps. That’s Dylan and I on the right and the guy on the left is really a Richard Petty impersonator, but man, did he have us fooled!

When did you start?:
We started to get serious about half way through the Supercharged release.

What was the first CAR you got?:
The first CARS to come home with us were the Boost / Snot Rod and Flo / Ramone Movie Moments on the Desert back cards.  At that time they were bought to play with, and Dylan still has them to this day!   The first CAR actually bought for collecting purposes was, I think, Sarge, on Supercharged card.

How long before you had CAR #2?:
Almost instantly!  Once we had made the decision to start collecting we hit the stores and starting buying everything we could get our hands on!

When did you decide/realize that you needed more than one?:
Shortly after we had decided that we were going to collect CARS we also determined that we were going to need two of everything.  One for the collection and one for playing with; however, the ‘played with’ set only has one of each character.

When did you realize you had to go big into this thing?:
The day I started seeing the STAR WARS toys that I had as a kid selling for big money; not that our collection is viewed as an investment but one never really knows, right?
J Besides it’s fun!

What was the craziest thing you’ve heard about collecting these CARS?:
Actually, I have two answers for this.  First, the enormous amount of money that is being asked for the MSOS set (and we didn’t get one!) and the craziest thing I ever saw was a man literally racing me (at least he thought I wanted to race) through a TGT at 8 in the morning just so he could beat me to the Hot Wheels!  Dylan and I are just not that competitive.

What’s your favorite car?:
Do we really have to answer this one?
J We like them all!  But, if we had to pick just one it would be the SDCC Lightning Storm McQueen!

What are you waiting for to add to your collection?:
We would love to redeem ourselves and add the MSOS set to our collection.

SAY HI TO “Jeaks” with sons Jake & Jye … I’m sure you never drive over the speed limit 🙂

BIO?
I am Andrew a 42 year old Bank Executive from Perth, Western Australia. I have two sons Jake (6 – Born on Xmas eve) and Jye (3) and a lovely wife Robyn who tolerates all my obsessions which includes (apart from collecting Cars and spending time with my family) the Port Adelaide Football Club (Aussie Rules), Cricket, my car an SS Commodore (Port 38) that I have spent truckloads on to generate 319kw of power at the wheels, collecting sports memorabilia (cricket and AFL), West Ham United  (UK Premier league) and Perth Glory (WA Soccer team). My two sons also share all of my obsessions and have their own Cars collections.

WHEN DID YOU START?

I have been collecting Die cast cars for over 35 years and started collecting Cars in July 2006 when I got a voucher from Target. I brought 2 Lighting McQueens, one for me and one for Jake. Jake opened his, I loved the detail and class from which time I was hooked. Went back the next day and brought the rest of what was on the shelves (we actually got the Cars in a reasonable timeframe back then)

WHAT WAS THE FIRST CAR YOU GOT?

Lighting McQueen

HOW LONG BEFORE YOU HAD CAR #2?

Mater, DJ, Flo & Ramone, Luigi, tractor and Guido, Lizzie plus some others

WHEN DID YOU DECIDE/REALIZE YOU NEEDED MORE THAN ONE?

The day Jake opened his

WHEN DID YOU REALIZE YOU HAD TO GO BIG INTO THIS THING?

From day 1 and every time new ones came out.

WHAT WAS THE CRAZIEST THING YOU’VE HEARD ABOUT COLLECTING THESE CARS? (NEVER YOU, SOME OTHER PERSON’S CRAZY STORY
:-)
).
I stayed up until 2am to get SOTS. I arranged for my graduate at work to talk her US friend into letting me use her US address and then getting the friend’s mother to arrange for SOTS to be posted to Australia.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE CAR?

Lighting McQueen & Bob Cutlass.

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR TO ADD TO YOUR COLLECTION?
Every Cars die-cast that comes out. I am also waiting for Mattel to adequately supply the Australian market (more chance of Jabba the Hutt being declared a sex symbol me thinks)

THANKS for sharing all. Good luck with the hunt in 2009 – WE WILL all need luck and that green paper thing 🙂

More Profiles Coming!
