Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Ben Crankleshaft & Oliver Lightload Gearing Down the Highway

Coming this week, the next (and last?) hauler case.

Hello Ben Crankleshaft …

(SDCC proto)

Ben

And Oliver Lightload …

Oliver Lightload DOES NOT actually come with a turntable – this was an old prototype – as of now, he will be coming as a normal pullout.

Oliver

And there are two of each plus 2 Mack’s in the case.

Thanks CTC … I don’t think the link is up yet but you can check here.

Met, I do believe that first photo is of Chet Boxkaar, with the black squares on the trailer, before the “inc.” logo was put in it’s place, not Ben Crankleshaft.

Also, Ben has a flat roof, unlike Chet’s baseball cap style roof.

I have Chet in my hands right now, and that’s definitely a photo of Chet.

Here’s a shot of Ben, with his running lights on:

      I-am-speed:

Your photo and Mets look to be the same style “Tilt forward cab or aka Cab over”, was Mets photo changed?

Other than the 3 squares that show, which should be OMB on the side of the trailer, I dont see the difference in the cab.

      • I-am-speed says:

What it really looks like is the SDCC photo shows Ben with what ended up being Chet’s trailer. After looking again, I agree it’s Ben as far as the cab, but the trailer looks like what ends up being Chet’s trailer in actual production, with “inc.” graphics.

I know, we’re splitting hairs, as other than Mack(a Mack Conventional/Long Nose) the rest of the field is pretty much all Peterbilt cabovers. Gil has been the only extended-length cabover so far, not sure what he stores back there in that extra space?

Everyone remembers “Maximum Overdrive” and the black truck hauling toys with the scary clown face on the front?

Have you seen the new International Lonestar? Stephen King design???

        http://www.articulatedtruck.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/International-trucks-Lonestar-silver.jpg

        • NascarFan says:

Peterbuilt has the long and snub noses too.

I dont think you are splitting hairs Tim. Just wanted to be sure what I was looking for.

Appears that the trailer was a “layout prototype” and using the blocks or squares for clearance / reference where the final lettering would go.

We are good. I know now what you meant.

That Stephen King design of the cab, looks great. But as a Stephen King fan who has almost every book of his available on audio, I cant remember if that story was ever an actual book, as I write this. I will have to search for the title again. Its been awhile since I have went through his stuff

I don’t know if my following statement will make sense but I believe Mattel do not rely ONLY on CARS collectors for the HUGE success of this product. I think people starting “COLLECT THEM ALL” within 6 months end up to be a user on this website. If you “google” CARS just a little you will find TFAD quick enough, then find out this is the universe you must be to make this collection possible. There is a little more than 2,500 users on this site. How many remain active today? Let’s say 100%. This is really not enough to make Mattel worry that much even if 90% were stopping collecting… (until they see CARS 2 coming out). MET? How many collector guide have been sold so far? That could be a good indicator too…

I have seen so many parents and kids stop in front of the display and buy them only because they recognize the main characters, not necessarily the background characters of TOON for instance and they are dargn so attractive, admit it! Once I heard something sounds like this… “Put them on the shelves and they will come…” 🙂 Okay Mattel have probably overproduce some GIL and SEMI. Lenticulars and color changes did not get the expected result but keep in mind in 2006 Mattel didn’t have any idea how these few movie items will become so popular… you know the rest of the story…

    • quercy says:

HEY! I was looking at my profile and realized I become a T5AD member a year ago yesterday! MET that will be fun if we can add our location (city, state, country) on our profile. We can then have a idea where our members are. Do we have members from every single states? Which state have the most? How many different countries… etc… Just an idea.

(MET: Congrats! Yea, we have some things on the drawing board … problem is our servers are straining already so we have to map out the future carefully 🙂 ).

    • Stig McQueen says:

OTOH, I see many kids walk up and say, “Oh, I already have all of these…” If kids were driving sales of the same-old same-old CARS, there wouldn’t be so many same-old same-old CARS warming the same-old same-old pegs month after month after month…

  • Jinzo says:

Sad… will probably never see these as well 🙁 Why do I even try now? 🙁 Last “New” Hauler I saw was Shifty Drug & Vinyl Toupee and that was half a year ago or more… Yes bought Vinyl Toupee and love it… I should’ve picked up Shifty Drug as well 🙁 Oh well… As most collectors are, I’m also disappointed in Mattel beyond believe.
    I think Mattel’s attention now is Cars 2…. they don’t care about Cars 1 anymore… 🙁 I hope I get the last 2 FL cases… 🙁

i’m surprized of all the nice comments we have today!!! thanks for all the raising of sprits today.

  • danrio says:

Forbes magazine recently named our Sacramento region in Northern California as the fifth worst metropolitan area in the nation to live. This was based on unemployment, taxes, crime, roads and a bunch of other factors cites are rated by. If you take into account the unavailbilty of “Cars”, it should be the worst ! Even with a proliferation of Walmart, Target and TRU, there is still very little to nothing newer than Gil, Marty, Matthew, Nurse Kori and Mater with Glow Lamp (that was a find!). Except for the Holiday toys, inventories have been stagnant for several months. I am not anticipating the arrival of Cars 2 toys until I see on our store shelves the remaining 25 or 30 characters from the original which some collectors are either looking for as I am or have available to sell or trade for several weeks.

wow things seem a little rough to some of you. i might get ben but i wish it had a turntable, the whole back part of the haulers arnt very exiting inside.

  • joseph says:

    joseph

    • jestrjef says:

wow … some one woke up on the wrong side of the garage 🙂 …. hate to tell you this, but a new movie is coming out … there will be a TRUCKLOAD of new and interested kids, parents and collectors sure to follow! MET, you keep up the great work!! Thanks for all you do!! 🙂

    • Eric says:

Why is it always the boneheads that can’t spell that make the biggest noise. You go right on over to collecting Hotwheels there, Joseph. They are quite the lively lot. I’m sure MET and the rest of us will manage to find a reason to live and keep collecting despite your departure. :). Actually, it just means someone out there will have a little easier time getting the Cars they want. Anyone out here in the NW want to join him and switch to Hotwheels? I highly encourage it for my sake! 🙂

      • quercy says:

The funny thing is CARS are next to HW… He will torture himself every single time believe me he will come back when he will see these wonderfull colourful full of life CARS!!! 🙂

        • Fillmore1234 says:

Haha, the guy needs to chill out a bit. Hot Wheels are only good because they are cheap. But what does that mean? CHIPPED PAINT, BROKEN WHEELS, DROPPED, FORGOTTEN, SENT UP IN A FIREWORK (I actually did that last year for the 4th of July. It fell into a lake…) ETC… ETC… I tried collecting Hot Wheels but I just can’t get pulled into it! Cars has been amazing! Fun expressions, (though they are lenticular) very sturdy and don’t break, will only chip if you drop it onto a cement floor, and they are SO MUCH FUN!!! 😀

    • Chris with tray says:

      Joseph needs a hug.

  • Murpheeie says:

Not really into these but I will pick them up when I see them. I started collecting cars two years ago and thanks to people on this site and ebay I have nearly every car at present. I like the racers and really want team haulers rather than these guys. Paul Valdez has been in our local store for months along with Vinyl Toupee and Sidewall Shine. Nothing is moving.
I want to complete my collection of minis but nothing new has been seen for over a year!
I want to complete the team haulers but that looks like it will never happen.
I want to complete the pit row launchers but again they have dried up.
I want all the race crew chiefs but yet again, you get the picture.

I want the pitties to go with the non existant chiefs and the non existant haulers.
I love the movie I love the toys and so do my kids but I am out of collecting. What is the point of having half the team haulers?
We still play with them but we will not be collecting any more, if we happen to see something we might buy it but the whole excitment and joy has gone from this hobby.
Thanks to Met and everyone here for their help but I am out, thanks Mattel for nothing.

  • handoe213 says:

I have slowed down even looking at all the stores that carry them. Lately its been a waste of gas, time and money over here in California. Decided not to collect Cars 2 and hope that I can get the last few trucks and final laps from the current series. Im very disappointed.

  • RODBENDER says:

Same here 2 more that will not show up. Still have not seen the last 2 that were on the west coast before Christman. I am about to quit collecting you can never get the things unless you pay double or triple to get them.

  • TarheelBill says:

They just keep on announcing cases and we don’t see them in the stores here. 🙁 You can pick up PLENTY of Gil Haulers. WMs, TGTs, KMs, TRU have dried up on everything here.

    • Jack says:

Is anyone from Mattel hearing this? How sad the state of Cars collecting is in.
Never have I seen a company do a better job at trying to drive people away as what Mattel is doing now.
I have to believe a big part of the problem is that there are only a couple of giant you manufactures left. Lack of competition leads to complacency. Mattel knows either way they are going to get a large share of toy sales. They don’t need to do a great job on every line.
Perhaps they just don’t care about collectors and research tells them there are enough casual buyers that will buy whatever the put out. Judging from the pegs full of old stuff on the pegs that can’t be right though because if it were new cars on the pegs collectors would be buying it.
Please Mattel if you care at all,  hire me, let me tell you what cars you should and shouldn’t make, cases you should ship and to what stores. I would increase your sales dramatically.
Mattel must not have any collectors that have to rely on the retail process to get their cars. Otherwise it couldn’t be so bad.
I believe I will take the suggestion of others and start a petition. I think it’s time for all of us to annoy the heck out of Mattel. At this point what do we have to lose?
I have one friend who says he believes Mattel is intentionally starving us in hopes we will buy more later. Mattel is wrong if that’s the thought process because they are starving us to the point of collectors simply leaving instead of waiting.
Come on Mattel. Wake up and send some good stuff to more stores now!

      • Stig McQueen says:

I’m guessing they just expect the collectors to buy the whole case to get the one or two new CARS. That way, they figure they’ll sell even more…

      • deal or no cars says:

This line is really dying.. Even if Met seems to believe that Cars 1 characters will be release after Cars 2 hit the screen. IT’S un-logical that a company who can make much more money than they already do .. don’t follow the crowd request. ONE word they are killing the line ( Cars 1 RIP) ….

TEAM CREW SET PITTYS are discontinued for sure.. got a confirmation from Mattel Canada a month ago, .. Mega Size are no more released in Canada since a year already.. Now what the heck is going on .. even no more toons in Canada since 2 months.. never got any heavy metal toons, nor any christmas characters…

HEY – O it’s ****** written MATTEL CANADA under each pack,, single to Mega Size, Deluxe, Final Lap …. even International pack sold in Europe .. WHAT a way to go Mattel my A$$.. no Cars in Canada .. but we sell everywhere else.. and now after thinking of the languages problem .. little explanation here: In Quebec there’s a law saying that every item sold here need to have French and English info on packaging. NOW let me tell you THAT HOTWHEELS are hotwheels.. THERE’S no bilingual name on front of the blister .. Hot PURSUIT .. is also HOT PURSUIT in QUEBEC.. so no more lies from you Mattel .. WHY IS THERE NO MORE .. or never was real releases of CARS IN CANADA.. ??? Simply worst company ever .. useless REP … Mattel Product should be banned from CANADA…

  • traver says:

They are available on a presale basis, should be soon!

    • cac1959 says:

I’m waiting for notification that my Deluxe cases have shipped before ordering haulers… Do you know the specific case assortment, Traver? Are there going to be 2 of each of the 2 new haulers? (update – saw it in Met’s post)

And after so long of not being able to find Mack, there seem to be plenty of Mack in the latest case assortments… possibly because he’s going to be in Cars2?

And yes, Rippers – Shiny Wax and Easy Idle haulers would be great… I’d like a complete set of haulers, pittys, and crew chiefs to go with the racers from the first movie.

    • Sandy says:

I have a question? How is everyone ordering cases? Im very curious. We can take it offline, just email me at taz_sandy @ yahoo.com (remove spaces) Thanks!

      • I-am-speed says:

If Traver hasn’t contacted you already:

All you have to do is click on the Children’s Toy Closet link at the top of the TFAD page. It’s there every day.

Traver will take care of your order!

  • Rippers says:

Doesn’t look like we’ll ever get the Shiny Wax or Easy Idle haulers now. Looking forward to getting these two new ones thou!
