Mattel Disney Pixar CARS Diecast: Back For Another Run – Lenticulars!
Yep, lenticulars are back but so far, it only looks like CARS 1 diecasts.
Outside of Vern, there are some surprises.
No Marlon Clutches McKay, 🙂
No Lightning McQueen and …
And no distribution to the Big Four (Walmart, Target, Toys R Us and Kmart).
It is an “exclusive” for EM Channels which means Kohl’s, supermarkets, drug stores, etc … plus authorized resellers can order it. But I can’t imagine these will be all that popular when the regular CARS 1 diecasts are available in regular cases (non-lenticular) so retail distribution will probably be pretty sporadic (or as popular as short cards). If you are going to collect them all, probably best to order a case from a reseller such as Children’sToyCloset or Rob’s Palace of Disney CARS.
Since there are 24 in a case, are all these in CASE A?
There is no Lightning McQueen single listed – my best guess is there will probably be a 3-pack?

Even for those who do want them, Kohl’s is way expensive.
The only two I don’t have are Yellow Ramone and the pink one.

If you are going to make more lenticulars, at least make new characters Mattel!!!

Thank goodness it’s not at the Big 4… However, being at those other stores means that they probably will not get any more Cars 2 stuff (my Kohls is full of McQueens anyway) since Cars 1 will probably take up most of the shelves.

I was thinking the same thing as Tom, because my son (almost five) thinks the “moving eyes” are really cool. I bet if he had to choose between a lenticular and fixed eye Chick he would choose the lenticular. I prefer the fixed eye look, but hey what do I know, I am a grown up 🙂
Too bad they went with two-position lenticulars. For the same production cost Mattel could have used a higher resolution, say 16 facets, and the eye animation could have looked really smooth and realistic.
Maybe Mattel knows something we don’t, my 5 y/o kid actually likes lentis…
Maybe market research shows other kids to as well?

That picture of Mater with eyes browned-out and all of the barely visible eyes are exactly how these most often appear. Dreadful. Please punch me in the face.

I think I’m the only person who liked them. I thought the eyes were more vibrant. If these are on the old cardback, I’ll pass if they were already released. If the new cardback is different…we’ll jsut have to see…
I’m not going to buy lenticulars this time around… I traded or sold all but 10 of my lenticulars, excluding the Chase Cars… Lenticular Chase Cars – I will probably buy… otherwise, it’s an easy pass for me.
I’d ask when Mattel will get their US distribution act together, but I think we already know the answer to that question.
Oh yeah! Collect them all!
