Disney Pixar CARS 2: The DVD Blu Ray – More Choices Than Ice Cream Flavors

Nothing is ever easy and picking and choosing a CARS 2 DVD-Blu Ray package is not easy … and of course, this is release week so there’s lots of special pricing and a lot of UNANNOUNCED changes, freebies and pricing.

@$14.99 iTunes DIGITAL COPY – SD.

You get the movie CARS 2, Director Commentary & the shorts “Air Mater” & Toy Story Short, “Hawaiian Vacation,” plus a few extras …

If you have no interest in holding a disc, this is your cheapest solution.

If you buy the 5-disc or 11-disc set, you do get a SD Digital Copy but you do NOT get the shorts nor the iTunes Extras above.

Also note if you are buying this version – buy it on your PC or Mac, that way you can transfer it for FREE to a slew (5 or 10 I think) of iOS devices (iPads, iPods & iPhones) because there is a DRM quirk – if you buy it on your portable device directly, while you can back it up on your computer – you cannot freely transfer/copy them to other iOS devices so remember to buy from iTunes on your PC or Mac).

@$16.99 – Believe it or not, you can buy just the DVD – if you have not upgraded to Blu Ray. You get the movie CAR2, Director Commentary & the shorts “Air Mater” & Toy Story Short, “Hawaiian Vacation.”

However, all of the rest of the sets include the DVD along with the Blu Ray so if you want a copy for the kids portable player – then you’ll be spending only a few dollars more to get a DVD version along with a Blu Ray version in all the other packagings.

@$19.99 iTunes DIGITAL COPY – HD.

You get the movie CARS 2, Director Commentary & the shorts “Air Mater” & Toy Story Short, “Hawaiian Vacation,” plus a few extras in HD. The “normal” digital copy included in the 5-disc & 11-disc set is NOT in HD and you do not get the extras.

@$19.99-$24.99 is the “basic” 2-disc set of the Blu Ray CARS 2 plus a DVD disc. This Amazon link includes $5 of Amazon Video.

This includes the movie CARS 2, Director Commentary & the shorts “Air Mater” & Toy Story Short, “Hawaiian Vacation,” in HD plus a SD-DVD of the movie CARS 2 (and presumably the two shorts repeated in SD-DVD resolution).

Keep in mind, for the next week (with the Disney coupon) – the 5-disc set is available for just about the same price and you get more extras not on the 2-disc set.

@$29.99 The Walmart CARS 2 2-disc set plus “purple’ Finn McMissile.

This includes the movie CARS 2, Director Commentary & the shorts “Air Mater” & Toy Story Short, “Hawaiian Vacation,” in HD plus a SD-DVD of the movie CARS 2 (and presumably the two shorts repeated in SD-DVD resolution).

So, based on the price of the 2-disc BR-DVD CARS 2, you are paying $5 to $10 for the “purple” Finn McMissile – presumably less than on eBay. ๐Ÿ™‚

(anyone who bought this version and opened it, shoot me an email, I’d like to get some photos, shoot me an email and I’ll ask you what I’m looking for – thanks! metroxing@ gmail.com).

$29.99 Toys R Us CARS 2 Lego + Clock Deal + Mater Christmas 2011 2-Pack FREE if you buy $40 of CARS items.(It’s says “CARS” items so I’m presuming the DVD-BR counts?)

While supplies last, TRU is including a nice CARS 2 clock if you purchase the 2-disc set or the 5-disc set (along with the EXTRA disc of Lego shorts).

(the clock is a full sized 10-12″ wall clock)

This Disney coupon is good for a week and applies ONLY to the 5-disc set:

Direct Link – Disney $5 coupon.

@26.99 to $34.99 (before coupon) is the 5-disc set which includes a 3D version of CARS 2 (requires an 3D HDTV), Blu Ray CARS 2, DVD of CARS 2, ALL the Extras in Blu Ray and an SD digital copy of CARS 2.

PLUS: โ€œWorld Tourโ€ Interactive& Featurette Sneak Peek: The Nuts and Bolts of โ€˜Cars Landโ€™

@$24.99 Target CARS 2 Globe is actually quite nice.

It’s very collector friendly. Everything fits neatly back into the box if you want to remove the discs and keep the display globe minty mint.

Size comparison

(just to be clear – does NOT come with diecast – size scale comparison).

Discs are in globe “holder.”

And propped up on base, very nice. Actually useful and easy access to discs.

And yep, lights up for 30 seconds or so when you press on Lightning.

Basically, with the coupon this week at $24.99, you are probably paying a few dollars extra versus the “regular” 5-disc set for the globe display.

@$34.99 The TRU 5-disc CARS 2 set with extra Lego disc + CARS 2 Clock + Mater Christmas 2011 2-Pack FREE if you buy $40 of CARS items.

(It’s says “CARS” items so I’m presuming the DVD-BR counts?)

(see above for clock photo).

You also get the free clock this week (or as supplies last) and the 5-disc set THIS WEEK with the Disney coupon for $29.99 so if you prefer the clock over the globe, for an extra $5, you get a nice kids wall clock.

(if anyone got the TRU set, email me – I’d like to get some photos also – feel free to write in the comments below what’s on the Lego disc – thanks!)

$69.99-$79.99 the CARS 2 Ultimate Set – the John Lasseter Director’s Set.

As far as I can tell with a shot through the plastic, the diecast John Lassetire looks to be the same as the Crew Chief 2-pack version (and the prototype)

Can someone from Australia confirm?

And side.

You get everything from the 5-disc set plus you get CARS 1 on Blu Ray plus extras, Mater Tall Tales on Blu Ray + extras plus digital copies of CARS 1 and MTT.

The obvious thing is if you’ve been holding out on buying the Blu Ray’s of CARS 1 and MTT, you basically get EVERYTHING in one nice package and a “free” discast. It would cost you about the same to buy the three movies/disc separately.

Of course, if you have the Blu Ray package of CARS & MTT, you are buying an extra set of those films + a diecast that presumably will be available in the US soon.

(again, if anyone got this and opened it, send me an email – thanks!)

The non-exclusive sets are also available at Best Buy – people have mentioned a “blue” Lightning McQueen – but it’s not free nor packaged together with the disc. It is a separate item you can purchase and get a combined discount. The Lightning McQueen is a plastic large scale RC Air Hog. So nice but not part of the Mattel 1:55 series and not from Mattel.

Also worth mentioning & showing off are the Disney Store versions … thanks “Michael H.” for the great photos.

The Disney Store offering including 5 posters if you pre-ordered:

They were even shipped out flat as not to damage them – nice and a classy move!

Great looking package!

Super nice! These are NO longer listed as part of the Blu Ray-DVD sets offerings but if you buy them in the stores, do you still get the lithos? I was not able to get to the Disney Store yesterday to check it out so let me know if you visited the store without pre-ordering – are the lithos still part of the Disney Store discs?

Also, in addition, if you’re buying batteries OR Kimberly Clark stuff, you can get another $5 to $10 bucks back.

Both offers require mailing in your DVD/Blu Ray Proof of Purchase – since there’s only one UPC & Proof of Purchase, choose either offer unless you buy more than one DVD/BR. So if you’re buying Kimberly Clark stuff or batteries, you could potentially get $10 off your CARS 2 Blu Ray purchase …

Inside the CARS 2 package are also some Disney Rewards offers including a CARS 2 lunchbox for @$14.

Collect ’em all – happy shopping and watching!

  • So we ordered ours from Amazon a few hours before the deadline for Nov 1st…

Just received the 11 disc set with Lassetire today!!! Three days to make it to Canada! Very impressed.

Not sure I am too happy about the car not being ransburg but at least we have our Lassetire car for the collection and he does have a different expression from the regular line…

Oh well – that officially makes four cars that we have bought from the second movie for the collection…

(MET: Strange, according to the Mattel map of the world, you’re just east of Krakatoa in some hidden jungle land … did you move? ๐Ÿ˜† ).

  • slicepie says:

I was debating on which store to buy this from but after receiving a Toys R Us Rewards Member email containing a 20% off any one item coupon, I elected to go there to pick up the 5 disc set.

The price started at $34.99 and after deducting the 20% and the $5 Disney Rewards coupon, the total with tax came to $25.44 and I still got the free Cars 2 wall clock!

  • chuki_mama says:

According to the Lego Club magazine that arrived today, the Lego-Cars2 Mini-Movie included within the exclusive Toys R Us version of Cars will be:
    Mystery of the Missing Parts

The other Cars 2 Lego Mini-movie, trailers and Lego Cars 2 designer were put out today on the first ever Lego Club DVD!

  • MackDaddy says:

Very informative Met! Bravo! Keep up the good posts! ๐Ÿ˜€

  • Matersgrlfriend says:

Decided to buy the Target version since I already have the Cars and MTT Blu Ray disks and the poster set and the D23 Finn.

Picked it up today because there was too much stuff going on at the boys school yesterday and we are looking forward to watching it tonight!

  • D J says:

They had the john lastire box at my wal mart today, i wait for the 2- pack, i got the blu ray finn pack. i cannot belive the only way to get the interactive world tour thing is with 3-d. i’m guessing it’s like the game with cars 1 blu-ray?

  • PicksOurCars says:

Anybody got pics of the Best Buy RC car?

  • NascarFan says:

Met: I asked the person who bought one of each of these sets, the WM and Amazon versions, permission to open them for photos. I will let you know.

  • DDD says:

Walmart pack also has a coupon for a cute free 8 x 10 print of Finn and Mater, if that’s something you’d like…they make it for you at their processing lab.

  • collectormom says:

We decided to get the TRU 2 disc set with the Lego extras. Unfortunately we have no TRU here and the TRU Express won’t be carrying it so I had to order it.

I’ll let you know what’s on the Lego disc

  • Tom says:

I picked up the WM combo pack gift set, it was on sale for $24.99 and they accepted the $5 off coupon!
The Kimberly-Clark rebate is good until 1/31/12 and you can submit multiple receipts for the paper products. I will have no problem buying $20 worth of diapers, kleenex and s-tickets over the next 3 months, so the net total will have been $10 for the DVDs and triple zamack ransburg electro-plate not-so-top secret purple-maroon Finn.
Like Bobbyjack, we have no BluRay player, but for $10, it’s too good a deal to pass up.

  • bobbyjack says:

Looks like I’ll be getting my first BluRay disc today even though I don’t have a BluRay player. The “purple” Finn looks pretty cool.

    • quercy says:

If you are eventually considering to buy a blu-ray player the PS3 station is, to my point of view, the best quality-price option. Join utility with pleasure!… And this is a SONY product. You cannot be wrong! ๐Ÿ™‚
