Righteousness & the Force Will Defeat Bullies …

From CNN:

Katie Goldman’s universe extends from her home to her first-grade classroom. She is a big sister to Annie Rose and Cleo, a piano player, a Spanish student, a wearer of glasses. She loathes the patch she has to wear for one lazy eye. She loves magic and princesses and “Star Wars,” an obsession she picked up from her dad.

The 7-year-old carried a “Star Wars” water bottle to school in Evanston, Illinois, every day, at least until a few weeks ago, when Katie suddenly asked to take an old pink one instead. The request surprised Katie’s mom, Carrie Goldman. It didn’t make any sense. Why would her little sci-fi fan make such a quick turn?

Goldman kept pressing for an answer. She wasn’t expecting Katie’s tears.

Kids at school insisted that “Star Wars” was only for boys …

I guess those boys aren’t old enough to appreciate “Femtroopers'” female “Star Wars” fans who show up at conventions wearing, shall we say somewhat less than the standard-issue Stormtrooper armor. Yes, there are definitely girls who are totally into “Star Wars!”

Let’s face it, I am not a normal girl either! There are not many girls I know of that collect cars and are interested in cars. I have never been bullied about it though. Most people think it is cool

  • Steve AKA: Poppa says:

One day when I went to pick my granddaughter up after school I found her playing on the school’s lawn surrounded by her male classmates. She and her male friends were playing with her collection of Marvel Universe action figures. They were all having fun. No bullying! And, you have to see her collection of Marvel mini mates! The girl’s knowledge of Marvel characters is amazing. For too long our society had relegated girls to roles played in Ozzie and Harriet, Leave It to Beaver, et al. Unfortunately, when these bullies grow up they will have a negative impact on their wives and daughters. The force is not with these young swamp womp rats!

  • John in Missouri says:

It’s amazing how young bully’s can actually be!
