Disney Pixar CARS: Mater Tall Tales Next 2010-2011

Yesterday, Pixar opened its Vancouver, Canada Studio for animation shorts.

You can view the YouTube video by click on the photo link above.

In Part II of the video, they show briefly some still illustrations of two Mater Tall Tale shorts either coming late this year or early in 2011.

They did not announce the titles and the person who shot this video did not adjust the lighting from switching to the speakers at the podium to the stills of the illustrations placed right into front of a window so excuse the resolution and contrast …

It’s Mater as some of WWII era fighter plane? Though since no front engines are visible – is he a glider?

The other one, John Lasseter alluded to during previous interviews – Mater in space so I believe he is some rocket propelled craft …

Of course, Heavy Metal Mater has not aired in the US yet. (Read this post for viewing on the Disney France site – the short is still only in French).

And no real previews of Wrasslin’ Mater has appeared yet … so presumably these two will follow – probably no earlier than Fall 2010.

As for the diecasts, we are WAY behind. There are close to 20 diecast CARS for Tokyo Mater not out yet – not to mention NONE for El Materdor or Unidentified Flying Mater.

Saw Tokyo Mater die cast characters in Target in NW Tucson today. Never even knew there was a Tokyo Mater until I saw them. Didn’t buy them, though. :o(

    Interesting stuff.

I stopped collecting cars now but Mattel UK still post their news letter to me.

This is quite interesting and it also has pics of Monster truck cars:

Heavy Metal Mater along with the other 5 Tall Tales were aired in Turkey, in Turkish, early April, unfortunately I had no chance to record it. They were great.
Currently, all 6 films are being aired randomly.

    I’m still a little behind a few CARS… Leroy…. Nick…. Mini…. Donna… Bumper Save Hauler…. Octain Gain racer… I’m passing on the Cars Toons cars… for now… yeah, just for now… maybe later…. maybe sooner than later…. must resist….

now if they could start getting more diecasts out! 😀 and keep them without googly eyes 😀

  • Kevin W says:

Propeller on the BACK of the plane!

  • BMW says:

Yes, saw those in the links yesterday you posted. I thought the first one might be a bomber, but only a brief glimpse of him in the video, so thanks for the stills.

    • John in Missouri says:

      I’ll trade you 40 RPM’s for 1 Dale. 😆

    • Jack says:

Wow. I thought kmart day 4 couldn’t be worse than the last one. Maybe I was wrong. Sure it’s nice to be able to get some Dales with angry eyes(even though just about everyone has Dale already) and more Transberries but other than that this looks like a dud of a case. Definitely not worth of a day.
The only thing I can think of is that they are going holding back the real good rubber tire racers until the last 2 Kmart days before Cars 2.
I have to beleive Mattel and Kmart are commited to releasing all (with maybe the exception of Apple?) the SOTS racers with Rubber tires.
We know they have kmart day 4 planned for the Fall. That will probably leave 7 or 8 Cars to complete the whole racer set. One last Kmart day next Spring could and will finish off the set.
I figure the next kmart day we might see FWD, View Zeen and maybe a big one like Tachomint. The last case will probably include Lightning, Chick, maybe King and probably finally the Gaskits.
Just a guess on the assortment but I think either way 2 more kmart days after this one to finish the last 15 or so rubber tire racer line is the plan.

      • John in Missouri says:

It COULD be worse if they stick in the usual assortment of Googley-Eyed Cars!

        • Hostile Takeover Banker says:

          They probably will John.

          • Jack says:

Yes I would have to guess that any other non racer Cars in the next kmart days will be lenticular. I beleive with the exception of a couple TRU exclusive box sets, only Target with the final lap line has distributed any non googly eyed Cars. Since late last Summer when the first Final lap Cars made their Debut it’s only Target and Toys R us exclusives that have been fixed eyes. I don’t anticipate that changing now.
Of course thankfully all Cars Toons released anywhere have been non googly eyed. I think Mattel just figured the lenticulars would be a good way of milking this Cars line a little longer before Cars 2. Perhaps the thinking was most casual and new collectors wouldn’t mind the crazy eyes so much and would buy the regular Cars this way, that they had yet to get. At the same time maybe get some collectors that have all the fixed eyes to get a whole new line of the same Cars. Finally add some googly eyed chases not available in fixed eyes to make collectors have to get some googly eyes anyway.
Hopefully they will start Cars 2 releases as fixed eyes available everywhere at first and give us a few years of peace again before trying the googly eyed gimmick again.
Probably not but I can dream anyway.

I and a whole bunch of other people need Sputter Stop and Transberry Juice so not comepletely a dud for everyone. It will definately keep people from trying to charge $100. 🙂 Would have been nice if they threw in a new one like FWD or Tach though.

      • Jinzo says:

I don’t mind another Transberry Juice or another Sputtor Stop… but this case does look like a waste… It nice to get a Vitoline Single but really was expecting either Sidewall Shine & Tank Coat. I do have the launcher Sidewall Shine but currently don’t own Tank Coat. Man… all well better start putting my time off for the day… 😀
