    Ladies & Gentlecars,

Seems like the more things change, the more they stay the same. Gotta love it………………………stay chilly as it seems some of you out there are ready to blow a head gasket which means major repairs 🙂

    Laters.

    • BMW says:

Acura, its simply people want the new cars with regular eyes. Those were promised first not lenticular first. That is the problem.

      • John in Missouri says:

The problem is that this Googly-Eyed Nonsense has become the mainline offering!

Over the years, as we attempted to complete our collection in spite of terrible case contents and slow distribution channels, we put up with sidebars such as Pullbax, Mini Adventures, Shake ‘n’ Go’s, Movie Doubles, Crash Talkin’ Racers, Mega Size Semi’s (not to mention Haulers that are out of scale), Cars Toons, and now Color Changers*.

I wouldn’t mind Lenticulars so much if they were just another sidebar, but to convert to these midstream has been disheartening.

        * My kids actually prefer Color Changers to anything else Cars-related right now.

    • Mike H says:

Martin, your appearance here reminded me of the lyrics to this one song:

      “There, standin tall n proud,
he looked at me and yawned,
and then a flash of white,
      n there he was…gone.”

You materialize out of nowhere, and then all we’re left with is the memory of a time when Cars seemed to be king, and there was hope for the future.

Though according to Matty’s Facebook page, we’re not the only ones being messed with by Matty’s smug looking face. Apparently the last big ordering day last week turned out pretty bad.

  • applefinatic says:

How can they make Lenticular Marco?

  • crazycarsmom says:

Also the Target only lenticular 4 pack with LMQ, King, Chick Hicks and ViewZeen. Only one I haven’t see is the blowing bubbles Mater one…but I’ll be on the lookout…thx!

  • Ryan says:

Why did they call it “Tongue Lightning McQueen” on the box when it is clearly “Finish Line Lightning McQueen”?

  • BasicCollector says:

Stop the lenticular phase craze! fight against it

  • Mike says:

(wiggles Lightning Lenticular Lightning McQueen, causing his eyes to shift back and forth)

    *wigglewigglewigglewigglewigglewigglewigglewigglewigglewigglewigglewiggle*

    *BOOM!*

    OMG, his eyeballs exploded!

  • Roswell says:

    WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY???????

    dose anyone collect these?

they look stupid and now all my cars retailers stock these instead of the regular cars!

we should start up a petition or something to get these stopped and have more time/effort/money spent on the normal great cars that started our collections, the ones we fell in love with, the little rolling works of art!

whoever decided these would be a cromulent idea better have a good excuse for doing so!

    • Mike says:

I had wondered about starting some kind of youtube video channel or something, where video is taken of shelves to show what is going on.

Maybe people could make weekly updates about what is going on.

I think it’d be much easier to show how Lightning just sits like a lump, as well as the majority of other lenticulars.

Or, if anyone wants to send Mattel a big box of Lightning McQueens (we all probably have 3-6 of them sitting around from all the extra playsets and 3-packs we’ve bought) to protest an end to the overstocked McQueen…I’ll pitch in.

  • Mr. T says:

Doesn’t seem like too much new stuff – bread and butter lies within the original “non-googly” eyed line.

    FINISH IT!!!!!!!!!!

    • BMW says:

They will finish it, all in time.

The Sarge in the lenticular gift pack is not bad actually. His eye brows lift and his expression changes more normally rather than a four eyed monster look. I passed but will get him on a single, as I don’t like the other expressions in this pack on Fillmore and McQueen. I don’t collect the lenticulars, but do collect Sarges and this Sarge is pretty nice.

Seems that with a few expression changes on the newer lenticulars that Mattel is trying to improve this line. Not enough for me to collect them, except for a few exceptions.

Target prices are up again, back to 3.99 from 3.50.

  • JAREDéJADED says:

Marco, RCK and Fred? I’m assuming it’s axelbender and not the jet right?

    And a megasized in a 3-pack? wow…

  • rumbler74 says:

Constanza??? Why o why do I keep seeing COSTANZO Della Corsa’s name misspelled like this? Could it be that you all miss George Constanza? Seinfeld fans? I try and watch re-runs whenever I can. Now everytime I see my Final Lap COSTANZO diecast, I hear George Constanza’s voice.

  • Luciano says:

if this is the easiest way to get a new car, we will buy them instead of paying ebay prices for them. I hope they come out non-lenny first but if they don’t i will buy them however I can get them. Collect them All!! right??

  • babychristianscars says:

Saw these last Tuesday, most walk by them thinking they aren’t new.

  • jmularczyk says:

I wonder if there are any people out there that only collect the lenticulars? Since most of the the collectors seem to knock them and have passed on collecting them is it possible that these could be more desireable down the road as we all passed on them?

    • jmularczyk says:

      nah – couldn’t be – could it?

    • John in Missouri says:

Only if they make Lenticular Rollin’ Bowlin’ Mater.

    • babychristianscars says:

I buy the lenticulars but not as fast as I keep up on the regular line. I finally just caught up on haulers last week and now will work on getting all the regular launchers.

To me the lenticulars are just hanging around they are easier to grab most times.

The toons and chase are sometimes gone before they warm the peg.

I do these in my son’s memory and I know being a little boy he’d love the uniqueness of wiggly eye cars.

My goal is to take up all the launchers in August and do an awesome photo for his birthday.

I keep the cars at home and only take them up out to WA his birthday.

    • WillsCars says:

Where does anyone come up with the idea that most collectors don’t collect these? Every time Lenticulars is mentioned here, it’s the same twenty or so people who have to remind us they don’t like Lenticulars. Seeing as this site has close to 2,050 members, it’s an extremely small number who say they don’t like Lenticulars.

      • jmularczyk says:

I hope you’re right Wills as it is the way Mattel is going and we got a fair amount of money tied up in these. I’d like to see the Cars continue to be made for decades. I do think having the lenticulars are a good way for Mattel to pull in new collectors while at the same time not reproducing all the painted eye cars. What I think is really going on is that Mattel know that producing the painted eye cars again will produce more supply and lower the secondary market price on the cars already made causing collectors to throw in the towel. It’s kind of neat to realize that some of the more uncommon cars are now fetching $10. Not too long ago Met mentioned that there were what 85 new cars in 2009 not counting lenticulars? I guess that is enough to keep me stringing along. Now if we went to the store and 500 different cars were available to purchase what would we do once we got them all? Mattel does know what they are doing. I think the lenticulars are designed to be a filler product to compliment the remaining original Cars until Cars 2 comes out. As I’ve said on here a couple times I’m not collecting the lenticulars, but I’m glad Mattel is going that way. So where are all the lenticular lovers out there? Come on, step up and share your passion with us. This board is big enough for all of us no matter what our eyes look like.

        • crazycarsmom says:

I can see why long time avid collectors would resent Mattel for the lenticular “detour” from their chosen path. Personally, I could give a hoot about painted vs. lenticular eyes. I collect the lenticulars (and only the lenticulars) because a) I’m new to this hobby and b) my daughter and I have a chance to “collect them all” at ~$4 a pop. We enjoy hunting down the more elusive ones, and yes, return from Target a little defeated when there’s nothing new on the pegs. But it’s all part of the fun. Live and let live. Or as my mother used to say “If you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all”. :^)

        • Ryan says:

No lenticulars for me, unless that would be the only way they came out. I think they’re very silly and gimmicky. I guess they’re more of a child’s toy than a collector’s item to me.

    • Jinzo says:

Agree! Mattel seems worse than Hasbro (Hasbro has infinite reprints/recoloring of everything… well Mattel does that too but not like this… See Star Wars lines)

  • Hostile Takeover Banker says:

After all my ranting I really want the waitresses. Would prefer normal eyes but am not holding my breath.

  • Glenn H. says:

    I really don’t like these lenticulars….

  • jestrjef says:

WELLLLLLL ….. if these are coming out as 3 packs with WIGGLY EYES ….. that means they have to come out as MAIN LINE FIRST ……. RIGHT??? Them there are the rules, right??? PLEASE …… PLEASE …. PLEASE …..

    • Hostile Takeover Banker says:

I would hesitate to guess that 3 packs of normal cars are going to just about be canned. If they are around, I would think that the cars involved are not going to be anything special. My reason for this is the effort they seem to be putting in making Toon 4 packs, as well as Crew Chief sets. Kind of like movie moments have died, I suspect the same. It seems Mattel is doing a lot to screw this line over and its collectors. The only hope is more mega packs like Sarges Boot crew or the Mater Saves Christmas. Of course this is mere speculation but I am sticking with it for now till someone posts pics.

Oh, and I think the only rule Mattel seems to have, or at least distribution HQs is to do everything illogically and make it hard as they can for collectors. I am also thinking many kids are getting a bum deal now too. The severe lack of quality cases with townies or well known cars is lacking. Ok, everyone can get a McQueen, but a Lizzie, Flo, Hotrods, I could go on. They are all getting scarce it seems.

      • Hostile Takeover Banker says:

woops I read that wrong. I would believe Mattel will still release the normal eye cars first, hopefully, before they release the googlies. Off my soapbox now.

      • BMW says:

A lenticular ready Lizzie was seen on ebay.

      • Mike H says:

“Oh, and I think the only rule Mattel seems to have, or at least distribution HQs is to do everything illogically and make it hard as they can for collectors.”

Reminds me of networks saying that shows like “Futurama” and “Freaks and Geeks” just weren’t generating fans, so that was the reason they pulled those shows.

Though consider that they just kept moving these shows all over the place, it isn’t a very convenient way for people to become fans when you have one episode come out on Tuesday, then you wait 2 weeks when it’s moved to Sunday, and the episode is preempted by a football game.

    • A message to you from Matty:

“The only rule is, um, I rule. Yeah, that’s it! I rule and collectors drule – er, drewl, no wait, it’s d-r-o… Oh it doesn’t matter, I can do whatever I want and you will still give me your money. Muahahahaha!!!”

  • John in Missouri says:

Are Matti & Bert reporters / camerapeople?

    • Daniel says:

      Yes. Matti’s a reporter, Bert’s a Cameraman.

Looks like a light box design change from the first case…they now have a stripe on the left with Piston Cup or Radiator Springs.
