Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Final Lap CASE Contents

Yea, I’m sure for many of you it’s like waving a red flag – there is definitely something amiss in the distribution plan but eventually, hopefully this ‘ship’ will get righted but for now, people have requested a recap of the case contents so far.

And as several people have pointed out, the release seems to pretty much follow the cardback …

So, it doesn’t take Sherlock Holmes to guess that One-Eyed Mater, Donna Pitts and Nick Stickers is coming next?

So, hopefully the distribution issue will get resolved or at least we start seeing some new 3-packs …

How to shop for Final Lap CARS:

One problem is that each Target store is not getting a lot of these in. Then add in the fact the boxes look pretty much the same and since Target does not have a dedicated Toy manager, stockers don’t pay much attention to trying to figure out what they are short on since all the boxes look the same AND if they have lenticulars or other singles on the pegs, it’s hard to tell.

Target does not use UPC numbers – they assign a group of UPC numbers and call them DPCI numbers so that is the only way to find items at Target – however, Target will generally make an effort to find and bring you items – you have to ask. Re-read THIS POST on how to work their inventory & price scanners. Or if it’s a new Target store, the new machines are in this post.

If the machines say they are IN STOCK or in the STOCKROOM … next step … ASK.

And yes, some Target’s have the sign up that says they will not bring out items for “collectors.”

Two points to that. Yes, if they have a bunch of pegs with inventory (such as Hot Wheels, or perhaps lenticulars), you are out of luck BUT if it’s something that is not overflowing such as as Haulers, they MIGHT be willing to look.

You can ask and point out you’re looking for a particular one or a new one – that may or may not work BUT if there are NONE on the shelf, that “collector sign” warning holds NO WATER. Point out and tell them this is a DIFFERENT LINE and they have none on the shelf. This is not bringing out extra inventory but NEW INVENTORY.

Of course, be polite and frankly, if you get an answer you do not like, ask someone else or go upfront to customer service.

You have to be proactive since again, it might just be because the boxes all look the same and they just think it’s more of the other singles.

The DPCI number for ALL Final Lap singles is 087 07 0116 (Thanks Celso).

As noted in the post, you can actually search via your iPhone app or online at Target.com for stores in your area by searching on that DPCI number. Good luck.

Hey, if anyone finds a Final Lap Fillmore, drop me a line πŸ™‚

Finally! My area got Case C! About time! I also finally found Richard Clayton. Happy Day! [Does happy Dance]

  • TarheelBill says:

Sadly, It seems so far that the NEW releases in Final Lap come in one case release (with only a very, very, very few per store)and no repeats in future cases, then on to the next case and so on. And now, after three Final Lap case releases, the NEW Final Lap releases start to show up in 3 Packs as Lenticulars. Making it very difficult to get the actual Final Lap Non-Lenticular NEW releases without paying a premium price on Ebay, Etc. They are almost pushing us toward bypassing the TGT Final Laps, and just waiting for these to be released in Lenticulars. Any way you look at it a terrible marketing/distribution plan and very frustrating and/or expensive for collectors. Not a lot of incentive to collect the Cars 2 movie.

    Thanks for this post Met!!

  • Jeffrey says:

What is even more amazing in that at least the Targets that I frequent here in New Jersey, the Final Lap series is $4.99 and the Lenticulars are almost $1 less. Final Lap pegs are empty while the Lenticulars are bursting at the seams. Wouldn’t it make sense and much more profitable to keep the Final Laps fully stocked? Economic point of the day.

WATCH OUT FOR TARGET “BATE & SWITCH” Lots of 75% OFF PRICE SIGNS >BUT< the price is really only 30%. When you question it… they change the sign back to 30% and reply… some items are 30% while others are 30% and or More off!!!

  • kdthomas says:

Same for the dozen Targets in my area. I haven’t seen Final Laps since early December and they only got one case each. I’m only missing Polly from Case A. That seemed to be the most abundant case so far. I’ve only seen Dexter from Case B and the already released cars that are branded Final Lap.

Met – wished I would have known. I came across a Fillmore Final Laper but passed because I already had him in another series.

All my Targets stick to the no collector, we don’t want to sell you mentality which bothers me too. Your in the business to SELL. But do they care? No, because they work for a mega-corp and whether they sell a $4 toy really doesn’t affect their paycheck.

  • Celso says:

the DCPI Final Lap has an error, the complite number is 087 07 0116

  • michele says:

my targets never have anything. got case A back in late October, and haven’t seen a new final lap since.

  • Jeff says:

Found all new releases (MLMQ, PCSarge, & CDC) today at Target in Fort Worth, TX.

  • Daniel says:

I am compiling a list of Final Lap Cars which have been released, which we’ve seen loose on eBay and which we’ve seen carded: http://carsthetoys.yuku.com/topic/13073

The funny thing is there is almost a dozen characters which we haven’t seen carded yet. I’m thinking these will maybe be available in a set (perhaps the Costco or Sam’s Club 8-10 pack?) as it would difficult for an employee to pull one out of the factory.

    Possible?

  • Bombero1956 says:

I managed to find the latest releases of the Final Lap cars last Friday. It was just a case of being lucky because I came away with 2 each of Muddy McQueen, Pitcrew Sarge and Costanzo Della Corsa. Most times this store has zilch for new stuff.

  • babychristianscars says:

And just a heads up Regular launchers were cut from the new walmart toy mod. It really sucks as I wanted to catch up and now its off to online stores.

  • Hostile Takeover Banker says:

That is interesting that they seem to be releasing cars in the order on the back. Can’t wait for these next cases!

  • schlitz says:

How do you search DPCI numbers on target.com?

(MET: Just copy-paste or type in the search box. It will show that it’s only avilable in stores but it will then offer to search local stores in your area).

  • Glenn H. says:

“Target does not have a dedicated Toy manager…”

Ohhh, on the contrary. I have had my fair share of run ins with my local TGT Toy ‘mangler’ on more than one occasion! I do my best to avoid her. At times it honestly feels like she does not want me to buy CARS or it has become her personal mission to deny every collector any joy at all in their selected hobby.

    • racerguy says:

Target, and some (not all) of their managers, have the dumbest business model ever. Look, I’m trying to buy your items: wouldn’t you rather sell them to me than wait a month for some street date or for a peg to open up? Do you really care if I’m a collector? If you’re selling merchandise, shouldn’t that make you happy, not ticked at me? Sorry, that’s my rant for the day. And I wish someone from Target HQ would read it and DO SOMETHING!

      • Bob - Thee Naughty Knight says:

The REAL problem with MOST WAL-MARTS, TARGETS, BIG LOTS, TOYSRUS, is that people who work ther are also COLLECTORS…and GET/TAKE first looks/BUYS and or RE-SALE to FRIENDS… Average people/Moms/Semi Collectors don’t have a chance, which is WHY E-BAY makes a killing!

  • applefinatic says:

I need Blowing Bubbles Mater and Target has ran out they need a new shipment.

  • EM says:

“stockers don’t pay much attention to trying to figure out what they are short on since all the boxes look the same”

Yes and no. Stockers do not spend time figuring out what they are short on not because all boxes look the same, rather it is because that is not their job. Stockers do one thing…stock. They stock what the computer tells them to stock in the amount that the computer tells them to stock (if consulted, the computer will tell them how many of something there is room for, but more often they will empty the case if at all possible, even if that means putting thigns where they don’t exactly belong or overstuffing a peg or shelf).

When items are bought–or enough of an item is bought–it triggers a pull in the back and that item will be pulled from backstock if there is any. These pulls can happen at one of a couple pulls during the day or during the overnight re-stock.

The sentiment is right, though. Generally, stockers don’t care all that much. And if there are a bunch of googly eyes or oversized on the Final Lap pegs, they won’t bother sorting it out and getting the right item in the right place. This has the effect of preventing them from stocking the Final Lap and alsop thwarts the fail-safe mechanism which is a group that goes around with scanners double checking the status of empty pegs.

So is wet Mcqueen going to be soaked Mcqueen without the burn marks? Wow not quite as silly as my favorite useless car from this line (tar Mcqueen) but getting close.

(MET: It was at SDCC – yea, pretty much).

  • I want One Eye Mater, Nick Stickers, and Donna Pits when they come out!

  • EM says:

I don’t udnerstand. What is the issue some are having with these? Are they not coming out as listed above? So far, here they have hit in th order above, though I cannot confirm the exact case contents. There are so many #%@&*!! product lines that in my two Targets, they are down to two pegs for the Final Lap cars. I cannot tell how many of each are in a case when there is not room for a full case to go up.

  • boots says:

Was looking at our local Target last week, and noticed a Mattel REP an isle over from the cars section, so I couldn’t RESIST to ask! I asked her if the final laps are a Target exclusive & that no other stores carried them. She pointed out to a Toy Story package with a Target Only on the packaging & said if these were she would have to put a Target only sticker on them??? She seemed kidda clueless though. I also pointed out that Target can’t seem to keep these on the shelves!!! Met do you have clarification on this yet??? Anyone else….

(MET: It’s like CSI. We can only extrapolate from the clues … Final lap singles are the ONLY exclusive items that do not say ONLY AT _____________. What does that really mean? We know it’s definitely not a random oversight but is it a clue? As of today-right now, there is no indication it will be available elsewhere but down the line?)

  • Mr. T says:

I’ll believe it when I see them.

  • LUCA says:

    THANK YOU MET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Kevin W says:

I already have a “one eyed mater”! (Two eyed Mater plus brown sharpie!)

  • John in Missouri says:
