Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Singles Not Going Steady

Normally as we get to the end of a design motif and the great switchover takes place (Supercharged to World of CARS to Race O Rama), there are a few CARS that get left in the lurch – either shifting to the new motif or short shifted in the shift but in the case of this shift where it’s occurring early in the year (versus Autumn) … AND we get three possible branches where it can appear or next appear or not appear at all? … plus the whole deal where new CARS must appear in the classics line before appearing in the lenticular line so …

The question for these CARS that made “the list” at the beginning of the year … either getting a UPC assigned or appearing in the Collector’s Guide … Will they appear as a …

Race O Rama Card CAR?
Race O Rama Target Card CAR?
Lenticular Race O Rama Card CAR (though as new so – not actually lenticular?)

or the NEXT design motif, “Driftin'”????

So these 9 “missing” CARS would’ve been just about perfect for the 4-5 shipments that would have taken place between now and October when the normal Autumn switchover would’ve begun … but now?

Vern (Taxi) – from the WORLD OF CARS book? Was there a cab from the film?

(Mrs. Van – Mini is not included nor is Vitoline Pitty – still scheduled as ROR in the last CASE K – for Kmart CARS Day II).

Do we not see the Taxi-Dude-Vern in a quick clip to the left of the Dude that rolls down the aisles sellin’ paraphernalia during the first song in the movie – At the beginning of the first piston cup race…?

Did a candy bar explode on Lightning’s hood?

  • iamspeed says:

How do you like this? I spoke to a manager at our local TRU today. I pointed out to him that it’s been at least 6 weeks since they’ve had any cases of CARS, and showed him the barely half-full pegs….mostly Lightning’s in different forms.
He took me over and sat down at his computer, looking up what’s available at the warehouse.
Something like 3,000 in the warehouse(divided by 18 per case).

System won’t let him order any, as they haven’t sold enough per week to justify replenishment! Duh, nobody’s looking for Lightning!

There were 2 or 3 stores on the screen that were actually due to receive cases, neither anywhere near us.

So, I’m done running over to TRU on their delivery day, and running in anytime I’m near one of their stores.

    Toys R Us…………….WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • John in Missouri says:

You should have pulled the ol’ switcheroo — buy up everything on your credit card, wait a few days, watch them get replenished, and then return everything (or, if there is another TRU within driving distance, just go return everything there).

      • iamspeed says:

Do you want to guess how many this store is selling per week, the reason they can’t order more?

They’re averaging 5-9 CARS sales PER WEEK! How many weeks worth would I have to buy to get them even close to getting the order to go through?

It’s Cora Copper (not Cooper) according to the Drive In Gallery. And in an earlier post the car shown on the picture was referred to as Houser Boon. Not very important as all the paparazzi cars look the same…

  • croukie says:

    Hi,
First photo is not Cora Copper (she has no black stripe on her side), but it’s Hooman! Check it all out on: http://www.carsdriveingallery.com/CoraCopper.html

    Bye!!!

I won’t be surprised if the “Lenticulars” end up with the same fate as the Lane Mates.

Don’t forget about Blowin’ Bubbles Mater!!! That’s the 1 my girlfriend’s looking most forward 2 adding 2 her collection

  • cac1959 says:

9 missing Cars… 2 of each per case. That would make an awesome case of Cars, don’t you think?

    I can dream, can’t I?

  • L8rM8r says:

I just realized that the Kmart Collectors day is a month away. I will be looking forward to that case and hopefully will be able to get a complete set. As for the cars we are still waiting on my guess is we will be lucky to see them if Target is carrying the torch on this one. For awhile they were good about getting new stock and then all of a sudden the pegs are filled with McQueens of all shapes and sizes and have not seen them rotate anything new in for weeks.

I am guessing if the case is released and is only a Target exclusive then it will be some time before they put them on the shelf. They have also put up the “these are collectors items” yada yada signs everywhere you look to discourage people from requesting cases from the back room. I am just don’t think it will end well. I hope I am wrong, but I am still disappointed at the direction Mattel has decided to go with this line. I am sure the new cars line will have their appeal, but will it be enough. I guess we will just have to wait an see.

    • iamspeed says:

L8rM8r, we should keep in touch on CARS Day to see how we make out between our stores….Twitter or some other source. We’ve got 3 or 4 Kmarts within our reach.

Hey All! Long time no post!

So MET, what ever happen to Richard Clayton SUV, dinoco girls, and some other singles that was announced / showned at last years Comic-Con?

Im heading to the US in a week time..any signs of new singles / haulers or any CARS on retail pegs? If so where? Thanks all!

(MET: Welcome back and fun in the US … shelves are starting to heat up but WM is middle of a remodel so it’ll be hit or miss … Rich SUV is coming back as a mega but probably closer to Christmas time … Showgirls now another month away? … yesterday’s post raises some questions).

    • TJH-AZ says:

Wasn’t Richard Kensington produced as a regular 1:55 and included with a bunch of other cars in that acrylic display case that was auctioned off for charity? (I don’t remember the charity) If he’s going to be mega sized now, that one off would be pretty valuable.
The whole scale thing is driving me crazy again. TJ was released as a regular 1:55, and he’s not that much smaller than Sven (Hummer 1 vs Hummer 2), but Sven is going to be a mega. So, R. Kensington certainly isn’t that much larger than TJ, yet he’s going to be what, about the size of Dustin? C’mon, it’s a stretch that Sven is close to the size of Dustin, but making R. Kensington a mega is tooo much. Every time the scale issue comes up it gets more and more ridiculous. I’m beginning to think the suits at Mattel who decide scale DON’T have children. They’re wrong to think that kids don’t care. Back when my son was just over 2 he had already figured out there were scale issues. I think the first time he saw Al Oft from W.M., he thought it was a regular balloon sold at the race track by the “Antenna Ball” vendor. I had to explain to him that it was Al Oft, the blimp that flew over the race. He looked at me like “I” was crazy.
It seems like this whole line is becomming one big mess of different scale toys. Imagine giving a kid 4 or 5 different scale train sets to play with. After a while, they’ll only play with one because 1; the track size is different and 2; it’s hard to create an imaginary world where an N gauge train and a G gauge train meet. Translate that to the Cars situation, imagine where Dustin is driving down the highway with Sven and TJ drives up next to them, hmmm, something just doesn’t seem right.

(MET: The megasize line does NOT refer to scale – it refers to the packaging if that helps).

      • John in Missouri says:

Have you seen the commercial where the little boy is playing with the big red truck to play with, and then the guy comes in and replaces it with a crappy cardboard silhouette of a truck? When the kid complains, the guy tells him that the fine print stipulates that the truck can be replaced at any time.

The other commercial by the same company is where the guy asks a little girl if she wants a pony; when she says yes, the guy gives her a little toy one. Then the guy asks her friend if she wants a pony; but when she says yes, the guy calls over a real live pony. When the first girl complains, the guy tells her she didn’t get a live one because she didn’t specify it.

Anyway, the guy in both ads must be one of the Mattel suits you mention!

        • iamspeed says:

My wife and I just about split our sides at the “bait and switch” between the toy truck and the cardboard cutout. Funny, but also said in that we’re seeing this technique with the CARS line in some ways.

  • PirateDad says:

Speaking of cars we did not get…went on a cross border raid yesterday for business and Cars…came up empty on both.

Saw hundreds of Mcqueens, in various shapes and styles, lots of Tumbleweed! Quite a few Ghostlight Ramone and Tex Dinoco too… All the MegaSized Semis were out, picked up RPM, did not have him, actually did not really care to have him, but since nothing else was available….meh why not?

Did get Leakless Hauler, so that was nice…overall VERY dissappointing trip!!

  • Brown Fury says:

Isn’t Timmy Twostroke that awesome bounty hunter (ala Boba Fett) in the Radiator Springs flashback?
