$30 – first available at the show and then on MattyCollector.com – yea, for reals šŸ™‚

The limit was supposed to be 4 but might be upped to 10 now? Details still be sorted out.

Unlike the opening stages of the mass prison break/riot/craziness from SDCC 2008 … what? people want to buy SDCC Lightning Storm McQ? Go figure. So, an actual plan this year. Get a number upstairs, you will be assigned a line time and your wait shouldn’t be more than 15-45 minutes …

More details to follow as we get to July.

Oops, almost forgot – a close up of the background …

I have a standing list of people who cannot go to 2009 SDCC that WANTS these sets if anyone wants to get the list from me and fulfill it.

    Or maybe another option?

  • acuransx says:

    jack shell,

    Cool, we’re on………….

Indykit has my contact info, email, cell number etc. so just touch base with him when you are good to go and it’s tour time. šŸ™‚

Been telling Indykit to get his non-profit status going (which he is working on) so Mattel can jump in with support big time. Mattel really prides it’s self with helping kids in any way we can.

We contribute big time to Toys 4 Tots and Children Effected by Aids every October @ Dream Halloween.

I say we even get Disney behind Car Cares.

When you wish upon a star, your dreams come true. šŸ˜‰

    indykjt,

I just emailed you please let me know the info. sorry it took a bit to get back to you. talk to you soon

    • Indykjt says:

Jack, I got your email, and have replied. No worries, it didn’t take long at all.

I will keep in touch, and keep everyone here at TFAD updated as well, as this would be a truly special donation, and go a long way in helping alot of kids.

It amazes me day in and day out the way I continue to see the good in people come out for something like this. These toys mean so much more, in so many ways, to so many people. I even tend to get blinded once in awhile waiting for the next “new release” to hit, and lose sight of what these toys are all about in the first place.

Wait till you see whats coming soon with the Cars Cares program!

  • jack skellington says:

  • jestrjef says:

    simply awesome!!

  • pwschuh says:

Sweet piece. So glad it’s not cannon so I get to keep my money. My wife just found me the Elvis RV and a PT FLea/Flic set at Target today so I’m a happy camper.

    • PirateDad says:

Cannon Fire!!!!! It IS a Disney Pixar Car, designed and animated and created by the same team who made all the others, how do you figure it is not cannon?

      • John in Missouri says:

So if Mater the Greater got shot out of cannon, would that make him canon?

        (MET: AND in Canyon country!)

      • pwschuh says:

That’s easy PirateDad – either is was IN the movie or it was NOT IN the movie. If it was not in the movie, it’s not cannon. Seems pretty straightforward to me.

The characters in the movie were created before anyone knew the diecast toy line would be a hit and therefore have, as General Jack D. Ripper would say, “purity of essence.” They sprang from someone’s imagination to be characters in a movie. Then they became toys BECAUSE they were in a movie. All of the other stuff (Tall Tales, Storytellers, comic books, this thing) were created exclusively to sell to collectors because Disney knew there was a market.

I’m not saying it’s not cool if you like that sort of thing, just that I have no interest.

        • PirateDad says:

But that is like saying that the Hoth Ice Planet Playset, my personal FAV from childhood, is not canon, since it did not come from Star Wars, but rather from Empire.

Same minds created it, to make the origianl better and deeper and more well rounded, to complete the story… sure there are more toys to go with the line, but that just makes our collection better and deeper and more well rounded!

I can see your point, almost, with say the storytellers, and for sure with the comics, but the Tall Tales, are shorts created by Pixar to expand the fun and the characters….

Of course, your view point means only one thing…MORE Rescue Squad Mater for ME!!! (really it is the Twins I want, shhhh don;t tell anyone!)

          • pwschuh says:

I don’t agree with the analogy. Empire was also a movie. It was conceived as one of the original 9 (now only 6) Star Wars movies. Empire was not created as an after-thought simply to sell more toys. It is my opinion that everything that is not CARS cannon was created AFTER Mattel realized they had underestimated the market for the toy cars, and was therefore created for the primary purpose of selling more toys. I know for a fact that is true for Storytellers and I’d be willing to wager a large sum that it is just as true for Tall Tales.

In some ways, the second CARS movie will be a little “shady” seen in that same light. Clearly the second movie was put into storyboard only after they saw the success of the first movie. There was never an announcement up front that this would be a series. (Basically it’s just like Toy Story and Toy Story 2). However, they have certainly learned their lesson from the first movie and are surely filing the second movie with as many different characters and “costume changes” for those characters as possible. That way they will not ‘run out of material’ for the toy car line like they did in the first movie and therefore won’t have to resort to making up outside stories to have an excuse to market more toys.

That doesn’t mean I won’t watch and enjoy the second movie just as soon as it comes out because I certainly will. But knowing what I know now, I will be very hard to watch it without imagining each and every character in a blister pack.

Did anyone else every notice that Dalmatian Tia has Tia twice?

    DalmaTIAn TIA !!!

  • acuransx says:

Yuppers, the Gasoline & Matches Company always makes me laugh when I read it. Those guys up @ Pixar are the bomb.

    Wish I worked there…………

  • Mikey says:

Just moved from Los Angeles (a mile away from Mattel headquarters) to Oregon.

Is anyone willing to pick up one of these at SDCC for me? Please:)

    thanks!

  • lost says:

did anyone else notice the burning building behind mater is the Gasoline & Matches co. now that’s funny

    • BMW says:

      Yes, noticed that.

I am glad these are for collectors.

Not too sure on what kind of message this would send to kids. Would kids “get it”? I hope so. But today’s world is so politically correct, that this package could be misinterpreted.

  • acuransx says:

    Scoobs,

Glad you liked this piece. It first I wanted this packed out in a acrylic Collector Case but I couldn’t afford @ the $30 SRP so I had to go to the less expensive diorama package that we ended up with.

I was really dissapointed that I couldn’t get what I saw in my minds eye šŸ™

Then our Packaging group came up with this idea. When they first pitched it to me I thought, “band aid cheesey fix”. It was hates and I was being closed minded.

Then I saw what they started creating and how excited they were about it. When I’m wrong I’m the first to say it and I was wrong. They came up with a great pack out that we could still afford. Team work always pays off.

Working on stopping the thieves as well. I want to put them with the Hong Kong Couple, in jail šŸ™‚

    • CaptainChunk says:

I like it. Not exactly what I pictured when you first spilled the beans, but keeping the cost down is understandable. Thanks for all your brilliant designs. šŸ˜€

    • tuch says:

i must say this is a amazing piece and i am trying to be patient but the anticipation of having 2 of these sets are killing me, you guys really out did your selfs with this one….thanks again.

    • Lorri says:

Cant wait to get one! (ok maybe two) only a couple months!

    • BMW says:

“Working on stopping the thieves as well. I want to put them with the Hong Kong Couple, in jail”

Good for you. I hope you have seen all the ripoff mismade Apples that were posted here a few days ago. Sick of these fakes, myself.

It diminishes the Mattel and Pixar name and product to see them sold with bubbles in the paint, misapplied tampos misaligned wheels, and at record high prices. Even more the French poster kept saying the car was from SOTS. No way, all the SOTS cars were near perfect when sold.

  • Cyclops says:

There’s actually one on Ebay. I was tempted to buy it, but I didn’t feel like seeing my 2 year old run around with a $100 vehicle…

    • ScoobyDoo says:

The one I see now on eBay is a non-Ransburg Rescue Mater from our Hongkong friend. I believe Met mentioned this one in an earlier post.

  • acuransx says:

    Ladies & Gentlecars,

I was pretty happy with the way this item turned out. As always, great teamwork got us there. Still doing some tweaking on having the red LED’s fan out a bit more as I think they are too linear right now.

It’s gotta be perfect. Hope to see some Disney/Pixar Cars fans @ SDCC, should be fun. See you at the Mattel booth. If Matty is there, please don’t kick him. šŸ™‚

    • chuki_mama says:

      8) WOW!!! I’m ready to get mine!!!!

    • Indykjt says:

Very Nice!!! Can’t wait to get this set!!!

    • ScoobyDoo says:

      Sometime ago you wrote:

ā€¢ A double Red Ransburg finished Rescue Squad Mater Fire Engine with real rubber tires, extendable fire ladder, with gold foil fire engine graphics. His chassis will be VUM so we can get that authentic look.
ā€¢ He will be flanked by Mia and Tia as Dalmations. They will have a white pearl finish and come packed out in a really cool diorama package that will bring that Tall Tale to life.

Well, you’ve kept your promises šŸ˜‰ Great work, much appreciated !

    • cac1959 says:

You and your team have outdone yourselves this time. This is fantastic. Now if only Matty will come through with the level of customer service with the sale that you and your team have done with the design… This is an incredible item that I want for my collection. Thank you!

    • elius04 says:

Hi my Dear Friend and thanks very much for your beautiful work on this set!
