Of course, the simplistic answer is to say the 1968 Corvette …
But keep in mind, the ’68 Corvette design did not appear out of the blue … you could go back a little with the round slope rise over the front ‘wheel well’ design-look … some obvious examples in sports and race cars?
The Maserati Tipo 61 … or the equally iconic, Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa …
Which of course, inspired a certain cartoon designer to flip its front headlamps …
Ferrari favored that look into the 1960’s with its sports cars …
The great Ferrari 250 GTO.
Of course, while the 1960’s versions were “swoopier,” … you can go further back to the late 1950’s …with the Porsche 356.
Maybe that’s why Lightning McQueen was instantly attracted to Sally 🙂
Or even further back … to the original – just the one element of the 1949 Mercury but hey, that’s evolution …
And in race cars closer to our era?

So, McQueen is all of us … 🙂

3.98′ Ford Mustang Cobra Stock Car is realy,it really race in NASCAR and it really similar to mcqueen
4.Hudson Hornet,Hudson is a realy brand,it is in ford group
5.Corvette,Camaro,Viper and GT40 have different backlights
6.GT40 have the motor in the back,lighting mcqueen have anterior motor

Lighting Mc Queen is a 98′ Ford Mustang Cobra Stock Car
I realize everyone things mcqueen is a composite of a bunch of different cars,BUT I must suggest that “Toy Story” started it all. so why not to infinity and beyond with a INFINITI G37 coupe. I can’t be the only one to think of this lol.

Seriously folks….. people say that this line isn’t dying, and gaining in popularity. Prove it.. If you look at the blog postings on this site, which I absolutely love by the way, we have discussed stickers, christmas ornaments, hair shoes, waking up Canadian, and finding plastic baggies for under a buck at the dollar general.
Where are the new cars??? Mattel wants to report their dismal numbers and show that cars are down, well guess what, when you keep releasing Lightning McQueen 12 to a box, and release two new cars every other month, you isolate your fan base, and the end result is “I give up.” Unfortunately for me, the pace at which this line has crawled to an almost complete stop during the golden age of cars is ridiculous. I have talked to many store managers who say they can’t get approvals to order any more CARS merchandise i.e. new cases, haulers, oversized etc, b/c what they have sits on the shelves. Now, the stores sit with haulers of Mack, Gray, and Chick, singles of various sorted McQueens, and oversized versions of Oft, and the single Cab only trucks.
What a totally ingenious line……. I used to really have a passion for collecting these with my kids, but now it is just frustrating, and the topics for the blog over the past several weeks prove that there is nothing to talk about CARS wise. Now we wait for K-Mart day 2 if it is still in business, and San Diego Comic Con to get yet another line delineation from this product.
Before this line is terminated for complete lack of interest, those who are in the know, which there appear to be several floating around here, need to make some please to JL to get something done. Where are the new 3 packs, better case assortments, newer haulers, etc… where?

Ditto, ditto, ditto. I think this is one of the most accurate, when comparing time and conditions, statements that I’ve read on here in awhile. It has gotten VERY frustrating being a Cars collector. ( I can’t imagine being in Canada or WHY Mattel ignores them especially when the Cars distribution warehouse is located in Ontario, but I digress…)
With the advent of the internet and the use of its content by manufacturers (among others) it seems that the information, interest, kudos and complaints the internet customer service drones from Mattel read would lead to a much happier, healthier and fun Cars experience. Yet, my feeling is that Mattel is NOT paying attention to what is written out here in the vast internet wasteland. They are sticking to the ideas of the old suits. Probably Hotwheels or Matchbox team members that were switched over to run the Cars line and are really just pissed off that they’ve been moved over to a line they’re NOT in love with.
In my opinion, Mattel is doing a horrible job paying attention to customer wants and needs. (something that is NOT new to Mattel) If Mattel cared about what it’s Cars customers wanted, they could simply ASK. Sending out interenet questionnaires with the miriad of Cars themed or diecast themed sites out there would be soooo simple. But they don’t. Mattel is failing, as they’ve done many times in the past, to utilize the technology available to them. Using the internet has decreased the cost involved with Marketing Research so dramatically that is just doesn’t make good business sense not to ask you customers what they want.
I remember the days, and they still exist, where M.R. companies would pay upwards of $150 per person to get an opinion about a product they used. The internet really changed all that but is Mattel using it? Doesn’t seem like it. And that’s the failing of Mattel and it’s marketing research department. While there may be Mattel employees who read this and many other sites, that’s not the same as ASKING for an opinion from those customers with whom you want to keep LOYAL. And when times get tough with the economy, as they are now, loyalty is something that most if not all companies need to really count on. Alienating those of us who REALLY care about this line makes absolutely NO sense whatsoever. I own a lot of shares of Mattel stock but I’ve been wondering over the past year how much longer I can support a company that doesn’t support it’s customers.
I remembered, I’ve read an article before that McQueen is a mix of Mustang, Corvette and a Viper.
Sorry MET, you lost me by the 3rd paragraph…. If it’s not a ’57 Chevy, Enzo Ferrari, or a NASCAR, I’m lost. 🙂
Ford GT40 would be the closest in my mind to comparing McQueen to something.
