A Snapshot of TakeFivers Around the World

Peeking under the hood of the TakeFiveADay.com can be rather interesting.  When Metroxing and I decided to tackle another blog, we really didn’t know just what would turn people on regarding content which is why our first six months or so we wrote just about anything.  Since we are both media and culture omnivores, it was not that hard riffing on all sorts of things as you have seen.
Then Metroxing’s Cars posts started getting traction.  So much so in fact that this website, TakeFiveADay.com, is itself now fully dedicated to Mattel Pixar Cars with the bulk of the posts relating to collecting the 1:55 diecast line.
The ongoing posts about our loyal readers who have filled out some nifty info on their collecting habit, um, hobby has provided several nice snapshots about our readers at the micro level.  But what about the macro level?
For example, you would expect that readers pinging into us reside in the U.S.  That is natural and expected since we are based here and post in english.  But the data gets really interesting after that first layer of data.  Which brings us to a Top 10 list!
Top 10 countries of TakeFive visitors:
#1 – USA
#2 – United Kingdom
#3 – Canada
Now, let me interrupt this list one moment.  I must admit that I was surprised to see the UK in the #2 position but from the perspective of nearby geography.  To be fair to our Canadian friends, you had the #2 slot until fairly recently so spread the word and take your title back!  Heh. Let that be a lesson to us all when considering web 3.0 dynamics:  the world has indeed become a much smaller place.  Anon.  Moving on…
#4 – France
#5 – Australia
#6 – Netherlands
Another surprise for me as the Netherlands total population is roughly 16 1/2 million people.  Whereas Italy and Japan clock in at 58 million and 127 million people respectively.  It could simply mean that there are more english speaking/reading collectors there but how does that explain France in the #4 slot.  Hmmm….more work for us as webmasters.  And again, very cool!  Moving on…
#7 – Italy
#8 – Japan
#9 – Belgium
#10 – Brazil
Now these final four rounding out our top 10 visitor’s countries provide some intrigue as they are all advanced societies but again english is not their principal language. Dare we say that collecting Cars supercedes all bounds even language?  Tempting.  Tempting.
For some additional fun, I used an online translator to translate the word ‘cars’ into various languages.
