SIGNIN NAME- Mike H.

BIO-
Been a fan of cars and animation since I was younger. Got a BFA in Animation, but still haven’t been able to use it. When I was little, I had 5 cases of 1:64 scale die-casts. I could also look at a vehicle and identify it’s make and model. My parents in their teens were part of their small-town cruising culture (which was big among the crowd in the 50’s and 60’s), which I always sometimes connect to ‘American Graffiti.’ I’m currently an ISS for Cars.com. Though it’s interesting that I work at a place about cars, but I don’t actually own one. I had a Jeep Grand Cherokee during my teen and early college years, but where I am, a car would seriously hinder my finances. Not to say the PIXAR Cars don’t do that as well. 😛

I have been fortunate in regards to actually being in the right situation several times when it comes to PIXAR. My previous job was as a projectionist at a theater. In the Fall of 2004, we had an early screening of ‘The Incredibles,’ and I got to meet Brad Bird and John Walker. In Spring of 2006, I got the chance to cover the World Premiere of Cars. It was a long road trip to get there (the articles can be found at jimhillmedia.com). I got to interview several celebrities from the red carpet, and even got to ask John Lasseter a question (it took a lot to keep my inner fanboy from geeking out). I’m including a picture I got to take with him. 🙂

WHEN DID YOU START-
Before the diecasts came out in May. I remember from Feb-May, I kept hitting the nearest Target store, but they never had anything. I got lucky one day when one employee told me he was just about to stock some that had come in. I remember he came out and had opened the full box for me to pick and choose. If only I had know at the time how hard it would have been to find some of those cars over the next couple months, I would have gotten more than 2.

WHAT WAS THE FIRST CAR YOU GOT- Lightning McQueen

HOW LONG BEFORE YOU HAD CAR #2- The same day. Got Mater as well.

WHEN DID YOU DECIDE/REALIZE YOU NEEDED MORE THAN ONE-
My original goal was to just get the Radiator Springs crew. But then after getting Chick and The King, and then seeing Leakless and Nitroade, I then wanted to get all the Piston Cup racers.

WHEN DID YOU REALIZE YOU HAD TO GO BIG INTO THIS THING?
When I realized that I had to get every Lightning McQueen movie variation. It occurred to me a few days ago when I placed Whitewalls McQueen next to Stickers McQueen. I even have the OS LSMcQ and the SDCC LSMcQ, even though I can’t display them in a progression from left to right like the regular ones (I did this with my Star Wars figures many years ago- showing the evolution of Anakin to Darth Vader, including all of Vader’s incarnations such as the removal of his helmet in different stages up to his redemption as a Force Ghost).

WHAT WAS THE CRAZIEST THING YOU’VE HEARD ABOUT COLLECTING THESE CARS? (NEVER YOU, SOME OTHER PERSON’S CRAZY STORY  )-
The one thing that comes to mind are the people who pay large amounts for items on eBay that haven’t even come out yet. I still can’t justify paying $85+ for a die-cast vehicle that will come out in the next 3-5 months.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE CAR
Van is my favorite sculpt-wise. ‘The Art of Cars’ has an image of misc. vehicles, and it’s amazing how spot-on Van is to their mini-van layout drawing. In the film, I kind of like Doc Hudson. I’ve always liked the older/wiser characters in films. You usually know when they say ‘not to do something,’ they are usually right.

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR TO ADD TO YOUR COLLECTION?-
I’m waiting to finish my SOTS racers, so like many, I’m waiting for the elusive Tach-O-Mint, Apple iCar, and several others. I’m also waiting for Todd, Dustin Mellows, Elvis RV, and I’m sure there’ll be a couple more that will come to mind after this. I’d really like to see the ‘Storyteller’s series give us a 1:55 scale Stanley.

BIO?
My name is Lyndsee, 37,  and I am a wife of 16 years, mom to an almost 22 year old son and a Grammie to the most beautiful baby girl on the planet! I have been a preschool teacher for the past 10 years and they are the ones that started me on this crazy train, I bought a few for the “block center” for the kids to play with, then they started my collection! I am a NASCAR,  NCIS, CSI, Amazing Race and Survivor junkie! I love Disney and was almost solely a Mickey Mouse fan until this fabulous movie CARS came out and it had in all the elements in life that I love, NASCAR, waterfalls, friendship, etc…. so now my “sanctuary” (craft room) is CARS and MICKEY MOUSE, and all the other things that I hold dear to my heart. In my spare time I frequent take5aday (duh!), read and I LOVE ZUMBA!! In the summer we are camping all the time along with our 3 year old lab Barklee (if you read or have seen Marley and Me….well that’s almost Barklee!) and in the winter we are in the mountains riding our snowmobiles.

WHEN DID YOU START?
August 2006

WHAT WAS THE FIRST CAR YOU GOT?
Lightning McQueen and Mater

HOW LONG BEFORE YOU HAD CAR #2?
The following weekend when I found The King, Nitroade and Leak Less

WHEN DID YOU DECIDE/REALIZE YOU NEEDED MORE THAN ONE?
After finding the above 3, then my preschoolers started the rest of my collection…

WHEN DID YOU REALIZE YOU HAD TO GO BIG INTO THIS THING?
When I saw the first Movie Moments and realized that if they were going to make Buzz and Woody and Mike and Sully, then they HAD to make Flea and Flik! So on my quest to find the little bugs, every time I saw a new one, well of course I had to buy it!

WHAT WAS THE CRAZIEST THING YOU’VE HEARD ABOUT COLLECTING THESE CARS? (NEVER YOU, SOME OTHER PERSON’S CRAZY STORY :-) ).
This one isn’t so crazy to everybody else, but if you knew my mom, you’d know what it took for her to brave the CROWDS to go to KMART Day for me because I was at an Early Childhood Conference and couldn’t get out of it. So there she was with the masses and bought me everything that came out of the boxes including the MINIS….. when all was said and done, I asked her how horrible it was, and reply was, “It was actually kind of FUN!” Hell froze over at that very moment….. Now she wants Elvis and Nurse GTO…. I love my mom!

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE CAR?
Flea and Flik and Dale Jr.

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR TO ADD TO YOUR COLLECTION?
Everything that is coming out!!!! (Before it was Flea and Flik, but thanks to a very special Person, I now have them and for Christmas my son got me them and so did my mom!)

BIO?
Well, I really love 3 things: Animation/movies, music (I don’t play it I just listen to it… lol) and humor. And of course Cars.  I really like trinkets (lava lamps are my favorite) and I never leave my house without my wallet, watch, cell phone and View MP3 player.  I’m a little OCD in that way.  I have a girlfriend and am old enough to drive, but don’t.  =P  I like cartoons alot and hope to be an animator, which explains my love for Pixar.

WHEN DID YOU START?
March 2007 at Disney World.  Funny thing is, I always knew I’d like cars, and the minute I heard of it I thought “That must generate alot of diecast collectors”…  Never in a million years did I think I’d be one!

WHAT WAS THE FIRST CAR YOU GOT?
Supercharged Mater

HOW LONG BEFORE YOU HAD CAR #2?

Literally 2 minutes later when I decided to turn around and buy a Cruisin’ McQueen and Sally 2-pack…  Hahaha.

WHEN DID YOU DECIDE/REALIZE YOU NEEDED MORE THAN ONE?
When I saw the back of my Mater card. =)

WHEN DID YOU REALIZE YOU HAD TO GO BIG INTO THIS THING?
When I vowed only to collect my favorite cars and realized that they were all my favorite.  I remember saying, “OK…  I guess I’m collecting them all.”…  Hahaha!  I was always an opener one-of-everything, but now I’m buying two of each Walmart/Kmart Collector’s Day Exclusives and Chase cars, one to open and one to keep in package.  So now begins the stage where I hopefully (don’t) decide to be a completist (for the sake of my wallet)!

WHAT WAS THE CRAZIEST THING YOU’VE HEARD ABOUT COLLECTING THESE CARS? (NEVER YOU, SOME OTHER PERSON’S CRAZY STORY :-) ).

Well, I think that Cars don’t belong in the Walmart Garden Center for one, heh, heh!  Another is that I brought my mom and brother to the Kmart event.  They drew names according to who was going to open a case first, and first my Mom was called, then me, then my brother, out of about 25 other names!  We got 3 of each Kmart exclusive there plus 3 chase Freds, and two posters.  However, I gave one poster to a little 3-yr-old boy who wanted it and was saying, “Wightning McKeen”. He was too cute.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE CAR?
The list is so long.  I like Mater, Trunk Fresh, Bruiser, Wedding Day Ramone, HTB hauler, and any SDCC exclusive…  And that’s just the beginning of the list… Heh, heh, heh.

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR TO ADD TO YOUR COLLECTION?

Well I really want all 36 launchers, even though I have all of them up to Trunk Fresh.  The HTB hauler looks awesome, too.  But I’d have to say a Mater the Greater diecast holds this position right now.
