It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll – Total Guitar Readers Pick Top 20 Riffs

Of course, I agree with many on the list of Top 20 but …

The top 20 riffs:

1. Sweet Child O’ Mine – Guns N’ Roses
2. Smells Like Teen Spirit – Nirvana
3. Whole Lotta Love – Led Zeppelin
4. Smoke On The Water – Deep Purple
5. Enter Sandman – Metallica
6. Layla – Derek & The Dominoes/Eric Clapton
7. Master Of Puppets – Metallica
8. Back In Black – AC/DC
9. Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) – Jimi Hendrix
10. Paranoid – Black Sabbath
11. Crazy Train – Ozzy Osbourne
12. All Right Now – Free
13. Plug In Baby – Muse
14. Black Dog – Led Zeppelin
15. Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love – Van Halen
16. Walk This Way – Aerosmith w Run DMC
17. Sunshine Of Your Love – Cream
18. No-One Knows – Queens Of The Stone Age
19. Paradise City – Guns N’ Roses
20. Killing In The Name – Rage Against The Machine

… but not very deep and um, I guess the don’t count the Rolling Stones? The Who? The Kinks? Credence? Or the Beatles “Revolution” as ‘standards’ before their time? (just to name a few).

Way to many old AC-DC songs to choose from better than Back in Black:

    • NascarFan says:

      Steppenwolf: Born To Be Wild

(also pulled from my same Contest list)

      Cannot believe

Immigrant Song did not make that list above

Here is an old MTV video (maybe someone will remember this besides me)

      Motorhead:

Killed By Death …… Motorcycle and rider Fly up from the grave….

      Ozzy: Shot In The Dark

  • NascarFan says:

Opening to Long Cool Woman (in a Black Dress)…… heck the whole song really.

    KISS: Black Diamond

  • cac1959 says:

No Bruce Springsteen… no southern rock (Allman Brothers Band “Ramblin Man” or 38 Special “Caught Up In You”)… No Rolling Stones… No “Stairway to Heaven”…

No matter… I listen to what I want when I want… thanks for posting the list…

Now maybe we can have a TakeFiveADay poll and list the top 20 over-produced Cars2 items…

  • John in Missouri says:

I’d replace Van Halen’s “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love” with “You Really Got Me” (their version AND the original by the Kink’s).

I’d also replace Led Zeppelin’s “Black Dog” with “Heartbreaker”.
