It seems like you can edit your post for a while then it locks. Possibly when someone else has made a reply? The moderators can give you edit permission or delete a post if you've changed your mind about something and feel that it is worthing asking them.

One workaround, images are hosted externally on your own server. You could post an image, say a car for sale, then when it was sold, replace the original photo with a new image with the same name. Useful if you know in advance that you will want to edit your post later on.
