Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Parallel Universe CARS-Disney Piston Cup Racers

As we have seen on the nature shows, do not stand about in the Serengti – you will be eaten or trampled.

As it is in the world of retail … mill around the pegs at your own peril …

Don’t release enough Piston Cup racers?

Someone might pick up the slack when they spot an open territory where the fruits are bountiful, the banks overflow and it’s all the flies you can eat (okay, that last one only applies to salamanders).

Sidewall

Spend $100 to find a Mattel Sidewall Shine or Transberry Juice? Or get a slightly larger version at the Disney Store for $5 each?

Trunk

“The wild dogs cry out in the night
As they grow restless longing for some solitary company
I know that I must do what’s right
Sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti
I seek to cure what’s deep inside, frightened of this thing that I’ve become.”

Shiny

“It’s gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There’s nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Anaheim
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had.”

And of course …

Frank LOt

Or maybe this is a more appropriate song that the Disney Stores are singing to Mattel ๐Ÿ™‚

“Every time I think of you
I feel shot right through with a bolt of blue
It’s no problem of mine but it’s a problem I find
Living a life that I can’t leave behind
There’s no sense in telling me
The wisdom of a fool won’t set you free
But that’s the way that it goes
And it’s what nobody knows
While every day my confusion grows”

It is starting to get interesting ๐Ÿ™‚

And the good news is that items for CARS at the Disney Stores seldom get deleted and they are around for a long time so no real need to panic – they will get restocked … and also, everything they sell in the stores eventually makes it to the online store so it’s definitely going to get interesting when the Disney Store shelves are stock full of CARS while the Mattel 1:55 series is represented by this…

Or this …

Thanks for the great pics of the Disney Store Piston Cup Racers – appropriately enough courtesy of PistonCarHunter.

UPDATE

Found my old Disney Chick Hicks so here’s a comparison – this is PRESUMING the new Piston Cup racers are to scale with the other Disney Stores Piston Cup racers released (Lightning, King & Chick) … and that has been the problem with the Disney Store diecast CARS – their scale ranges from 1:43 to 1:32 to 1:50. For collectors, that is the ultimate crime against humanity ๐Ÿ™‚ย  … not to mention some poor paint schemes like Mater is all wrong … so I will withhold judgment until I see the new ones but you can compare Disney Store 1:43 (ish) to Mattel 1:55 Chick Hicks.

Chick Front
If you’re doing a volume-displacement measurement, I would say there’s about a 33% difference …

Side

But again, what might be true for Chick Hicks might not be true for the other racers depending on if they tightened up their scale sloppiness.

One thing Mattel could do to make the plethora of in-packed Chick Hicks a bit more tolerable?

Give him that “THUNDER” decal! Then you’d have people wanting him because he would be a variant…instead of the same Chick we’ve seen repackaged for over 3 years now!

  • Matersgrlfriend says:

Met, did you leave that Chick Hicks out in the rain? He looks bad.

(MET: Are you implying my collection is not museum quality? ๐Ÿ˜‰ ).

  • Bob Eckel/TheeNaughty Knight says:

I know what those “OVER SIZED” “TOO BIG” “NOT NEEDED” goes with… why the other “newly released” “OVER SIZED” “TOO BIG” “NOT NEEDED” Rescue Squad Ambulance!!! My god it is even bigger than the Custom UPS Truck that was shown the other day, and the Custom Pepsi Truck… and all the other TRUCKS IN THE WORLD!!! COME ON MFG… What is that thing suppost to go with????

    • Matersgrlfriend says:

Theoretically, it should be able to fit a full sized Car in it right? I think the Ambulance is the proper scale. Dustin (thas basis of the UPS truck et al) just hauls *stuff* around, not full sized Cars.

  • iamspeed says:

If there is one thing I can attest to with the Disney Store CARS…….the paint quality is significantly better than the Mattel versions that we’re all used to……I’ve never found a paint defect(such as dust in the paint), chipped paint, or any of the little annoyances that I’ve had to overlook with some of the Mattel products.

Just the other day, I had to take back 2 Lenticular Flos that were both found to have paint chips visible through the packaging. Not acceptable.

  • kevin roche says:

so will disney do all 36 cars???????????????

(MET: So Kev, can you scale up your Apple stickers … oh I don’t know, about 35% larger – no reason, just curious ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ).

  • iamspeed says:

Isn’t that little spill in front of FRANK the oil slick left behind after he chewed up and spit out Chick in Lightning’s nightmare?

  • John in Missouri says:

Interesting to note that on the bigger Chick Hicks in photos above, it has the identical decals, but just spread out a little more for coverage.

Met, is Chick also diecast like the smaller one? And are the eyes painted on or decals?

(MET: Essentially like Mattel’s only writ larger … plastic wheels, metal (diecast) body … tampo decals … white area, paint, eyes – tampo decals – just like Mattel’s).

  • Jason says:

This is what you get Mattel. We want to buy from you, but can
not find any product. This sales course was offered first in
college. Did you sleep through it? “Cars” collecting with my
6 yr. old has become very boring.

    • iamspeed says:

Ahhhhh, but has it ever been proven that these are NOT made by Mattel? They’re only identified as Disney products, so isn’t it possible that these are, in fact, Mattel products?

The detail on the Disney Store CARS is fantastic, and the price is right.

$5.50 each or usually a 2 for $10 deal anytime we’ve been there.

I’m sure we’ll end up with an entire secondary collection of CARS from the Disney Store line before it’s all said and done.

I know I’ve already gotten a start on that secondary collection!

Don’t forget that the Disney Store DJ is one of the few color-correct versions(green stripes/graphics) that we’ve seen so far.

(MET: No, not made by Mattel. It’s not difficult to find a factory to make diecasts for you).

  • babychristianscars says:

Mater is about 1/4 bigger from Disney store than Mattel but weighs about 6-8 oz. more it is a nice heavy cool car.

I will definetly buy more Disney cars.

  • cac1959 says:

I picked up the 5 new Racers, as well as King, Chick, and Lightning McQueen at 2 Disney Stores in Indianapolis today… I’d have been ok with my budget… but I also bought the Disney Store Frank and the Mater’s Junkyard and Radiator Springs Courthouse play sets as well… The playsets were on sale for $16.99 each… Frank was $19.99….

I tell myself I am going to limit myself to the racers in the 1:43 product line… we’ll see how long I listen to myself…

  • Jack says:

If only they were the same size as the others. Unless these are collected as a seperate group, they just don’t work with the Mattel regular size. Just to awkward for me. They look out of place with the others. Although, the Disney Frank, Tractor and Red are in good scale to go along nicely with the regulars. Nice as a seperate set but not as a replacement for a missing car with Mattels.

    • Eric says:

Gonna definitely have to disagree… These are perfectly fine replacements for a 3 year old who will not be playing with the Sidewall Shine I have sitting here. Now, if Disney comes out with Gask-Its, Apple and Tach-O-Mint, we will be good to go! $5 is a good price for a racer regardless of which one it is. My son won’t care in the least that he is a little bit bigger. Hell, he plays with the handful of minis he has right along with the 1/55 cars (and I have a harder time justifying the minis than I would one of these). These are great for filling in the expensive gaps. Those of you with 5 or 6 year olds may find them harder to appease, but we are good with a “Mega” Sidewall and Juice! ๐Ÿ™‚

  • L8rM8r says:

Yeah this could spell disaster for my budget if they start getting all of the racers.

  • applefinatic says:

THIS IS A SHOUT OUT PLAESE RESPOND KINGDOMHEARTS358/2DAYS!

  • MackDaddy says:

    Hey Met,

Are those lyrics from “Rains down in Africa” by Toto?

(MET: Yep, officially song is just called AFRICA).

  • buckland-blowouts says:

    Oh oh! I smell trouble!

  • luciano24 says:

how much bigger are these since it looks like I will never get a SWS

    • Nicole H says:

They aren’t that much bigger. Dimensions I am not good at but when I saw the Cars at the Disney Store you could definatley tell they were bigger. Wish they would of had these out when I was in Wisconsin since we don’t have a store here in Iowa.

    • John in Missouri says:

I asked that question to the guy with the Sidewall Shine on eBay, and he called them Mega Size.
