Mattel Disney Pixar CARS: Mater the Greater Playset is Back?

“Snutes” found this on the shelf at Toys R Us …

Ignore the pricing – that’s for the Moon Mater + DVD … is it really back? was it found in the back somewhere? The box looks in like new condition … and it is weasy to bring back plus since none of the CARS 2 playsets are selling, this certainly seems plausible … anyone else spot this?

    Thornton, CO
Went to one of the TRU new me and on the top of the selph was a few cases of cars. One case has a red note on it, not to stock till May 16, 2011. I tried to read what was in the case–it happened to be color changers.

This one gets my vote for cutest packaging art of all time — all those panicked rusty cars and super-enthusiastic Mater the Greater!

This reminds me of one of the coolest things I ever found at a TRU – a fresh case of Batmissle Batmobiles. In 1996! These were originally released in 1991 and already considered pretty rare by that time. Surprisingly, they still rang up at the register. They were 9.98 apiece. Definitely one of my top 5 toy finds of all time.

Another thing I remember is when TRU started re-releasing Simpsons figures after the line was cancelled. It was like they just cleaned out the warehouses; and suddenly you could find just about any of them all the way back to Series 1. This was the first time I had seen Lisa at retail. They were also on clearance between 2.98-3.98. Ahh the good ol days.

I think these are NOS, especially at $6.98. We see long gone Cars playsets all the time. Sometimes all beat up and sometimes looking like they just came out of the carton.

I too saw this and the Tractor Tippin’ one on TRU’s website the other day, along with some other stuff that made me think they “came across” 600 boxes or so in a warehouse somewhere… oh wait, that was Kmart!

I was in a TRU in Dover, DE, two months ago. They had like a dozen of these on the shelf. Tokyo Mater playsets also. I was actually upset they didn’t have the Rescue Squad Mater one because I would have bought it. My kids still play with the ones we have.

I’ve seen it here and there at Toys R Us since it first came out. I don’t think they ever sold all they had. The Disney Store version was much better.

I have also seen it on the TRU website.

I bought this for $6.98. I was surprised how low it was. Kids love it although it seems a little flimsy. The plastic mater is a decent alternative to the diecast thats selling in ebay. The cars actually do go through the loop of fire. I also saw the old tractor tipping play set with I guess a plastic Frank.
