TakeFiveADay Forum Troubles?

So, show of hands, how many people are having problem accessing the NEW forum?

It is odd if you can see the rest of the site as it simply operates as a plug-in on one of our pages so it’s not really logical.

The logical thing is to start with the small stuff like clear your browser cache but that does not seem to have solved a lot of issues.

We are looking into it and will let you know.

I did toggle on one setting – “Integrate WordPress Posts with Forum” so I don’t know if that helps – try again.

Meanwhile, if it’s not too much hardship, try creating a new login and see if that works?

Meanwhile, hang in there, we will try and resolve it before shutting down the old trading forum. Thanks!

I have found where the problem is and I am now investigating on how to solve it permanently. I will try to allow all the members who can’t see the forums, but each new subscriber will encounter the same trouble…

  • pachanga says:

IE still not working. Any help out there????????

  • hostile takeover banker says:

Met, have you actually contacted Cartpauj on his own Mingle Forums for support on this? Easily contacted by clicking on where his name is in blue underneath the forum. Apologies if you have.

  • oliversmom says:

working fine with computer, ipad 2 and htc droid 4G. No complains….
    perfect!

  • John in Missouri says:

When I “View Source” on the Forums page, it refers to a “mingle-forum” plugin — maybe those that cannot view the Forums need to give permissions to use plugins?

I am from being a tech geek, so I don’t know if what I’m asking makes any sense or not, but just thought I’d toss it out there.

    • slicepie says:

I thought the same thing at first but then realized that it’s a plugin for Word Press and really shouldn’t have any effect on the browser. I can see and respond to the forums on my phone and it isn’t a smart phone so I don’t think it’s a plugin issue.

I do think it may be a combination of settings, but if clearing cache and allowing cookies doesn’t solve the problem then I am really not sure what else can be done. I’ve gone through all of the options in Firefox and didn’t see anything that might cause others to not be able to see the page.

  • slicepie says:

Hey Met, could the problems others are having have anything to do with Google Gears maybe not being installed?

  • uncle skippy says:

Cannot access forums. Tried on 3 different computers in different locations, an iPhone, a Droid phone. Tried creating a new account and could not access either.

Do not see any pop up blocker, cache file or similar issues on any machines.

  • Dinocoblue says:

I cannot view the forum in firefox or explorer, I have even tried clearing my browser cache.

  • pachanga says:

I still have the same problem as below

  • Bumper Save says:

I have IE, nothing is working. It seems to be the same problem as BuddhaMike below.

  • BuddhaMike says:

Hate to pile on, but I don’t see any forums either. Just the page that says Take 5 Forums, but no forum list. Not sure what system you’re using, but did you create a list of actual forums and their categories? Without a forum list, no one can enter the forums. Apologies if you’ve done this.

  • lemons123 says:

can’t see the forums on my ipad or laptop…

  • Fillmore1234 says:

    STILL can’t view the Forums.

  • pachanga says:

Is it only me as I still can’t see anything. Also what happend to the shopping reports? Are they gone!!!!!!!!!!

(MET: They’ve been moved over to our FORUMS – can you see them ok?)

  • Micky says:

    Well…
after stating everything is working fine, now I’m having trouble logging in. Also when it does load (and it doesn’t all the time), it loads very slowly. I went to Firefox, it wouldn’t even let me log in. Finally after several tries I was able to log in with Firefox. Chrome still not able to log in. Also, when my posts do go through, they say waiting moderation?
Just tried to get to Take5 on Safari and it wouldn’t load. All other usual sites load fine. BTW, I’m using Firefox right now.

  • pachanga says:

Im having problems as I’m signed in but cant see anything

  • Fillmore1234 says:

TEST just checking out my new Gravatar.

  • firefox91 says:

I still have the problem. I used Firefox 5 and IE9, no joy. Nothing else is blocked. I thought about the AdBlock I have installed on Firefox but I don’t even have it for IE so there should be no difference. THis is my home PC so no corporate firewalls. I have firewall stuff but nothing else ever gets blocked.

Here is a screenshot of what I see.
    http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn59/firefox0091/Other/take5.jpg

(MET: It looks like you are logged in – what happens if you click on the text FORUMS under the LOG box?)

    • slicepie says:

In Firefox 5 try going to Tools>Options>Privacy and make sure that the box for ‘Permanent Private Browsing’ is not checked. You might have to restart Firefox after the change. If that doesn’t work then I have no idea.

    • John in Missouri says:

I’m guessing when you click this link, you don’t see the 5 posts either?

      http://www.takefiveaday.com/takefive-forums/trading-forum-group2/trades-only-forum2/

      • firefox91 says:

I think we are on to something…. permissions! The message I get when I click that link is “Sorry, but you don’t have access to this forum.” I bet if I registered a new account it would work. Clearly it is account related though since the problem follows me to other PCs and other browsers.

        • hostile takeover banker says:

The problem doesn’t seem to be account related. I say this because the forum doesn’t show whether you are logged in or not. I have tried this now at my work, my partners work and an internet cafe and they all don’t show forums either before or after I log in.

The forum should be able to be accessed (ie read) whether you are logged in or not. All registering really does is allows you to be tracked while posting. (well, that is how the majority of these simple forums work).

          • John in Missouri says:

When I click the Forums, it makes me log in to view them.

It’s just weird that some folks cannot see the “Tables” that contain the forums. I don’t know what browsers don’t recognize tables. Maybe they are some sort of complex tables that require permissions?

        • hostile takeover banker says:

Still not working for me. I’ve had my ISP provider look into this and they tried to remotely see if they could ‘fix’ it using setting son my PC but couldn’t. They then realised that they have the exact same problem on their on server and couldn’t veiw the forums either. My partner’s work and my own work which run different ISP’s have the same problem and can’t see the forums. This makes me think that at least here in Oz the problem is a lot larger than it seems perhaps.

Once again, this doesn’t work on Ipad, my PC with IE9 fully upgraded, previous versions of IE and a laptop running Firefox.

To top it off, I have tried to bring this issue to the attention of the person who ‘made’ this forum and they had the brilliant solution of deleting all moderators and member groups!

    • Tacomaduck says:

I’m in the same boat. I just registered using my gmail account and not my hotmail account. I can get to setting my preferences. However, I can see there are 39 topics (or whatever it is) and the last person to log in was yadda, yadda. But, I cannot see any of the topics and so on. Go figure. It’s enough for me to check on the news. And, when that is not available I’ll just pull up stakes and call it a day.

    • firefox91 says:

@MET – It just takes me back to the exact same screen. Almost like a screen refresh.

(MET: I don’t think the forum is a java plug in but maybe the splash page -sign in is? Your java updated and turned on?)

    • pachanga says:

That is the same thing I’m seeing. How can I fix this

    • dvincent says:

Firefox91 : I have temporarly changed your password in order to use your account for some tests, so sorry, you won’t be able to use your account for the moment. But good news, with your account, I am able to see reproduce the problem. But now, I have to find how to solve it…
I’ll tell you when I have finished and will reset your password. Thank you for the screenshot.

  • 5oclockshadow says:

It works for me. I just prefer being out here in the open forums. I get claustrophobic in there.

  • slicepie says:

Working just fine on Firefox 5.0 and Verizon Mobile Web

  • bobbyjack says:

Works fine here with whatever is on my computer!

  • Micky says:

Working fine here with iMac & Safari 5.1

  • TheCaptain says:

no problems. works fine for me on blackberry and firefox (3.6)

  • Frank says:

Just out of curiosity, what browser are you guys using?

  • Charlie W says:

I’m registered and logged in, and have never been able to get to them. I see the link for “Take 5 Forum” on the right hand side of this screen, but when I click on it, I do not see an actual forum

  • Fillmore1234 says:

I can’t find anything in it. I type something in the Search but nothing shows up- not even anything to tell me that no Search Results were found. Guess I’ll just have to stick with the Comments.

And I also got everything about making my Account fixed. Thanks MET!

  • apcalc says:

Can’t see anything at all, tried on both my computer and iPad. 🙁

Also, I just made my account when the forums were added so I would be able to post there.

    • apcalc says:

Well, I made a new account here, and the forums will still not work on my computer (using browsers Chrome and IE 9) or my iPad (using Safari). Likewise, I cleared both the cache and cookies for all three browsers. I don’t know what else to do. 🙁

(MET: it’s confusing as you can see the rest of the website, right? So it’s weird that only part of the website do not show up and I have tested myself with most web browsers so that does not appear to be the problem … still weird, working on it).

      • apcalc says:

When I click the link posted by John in Missouri, I get an error message “Sorry, but you don’t have access to this forum”. Everything else on the website works fine, though…

  • John in Missouri says:

Is it possible the people who are having problems have never registered with Take5 on the upper right of the page? They might be just typing in their Username & Email address when submitting comments.

  • Bumper Save says:

*hand up* – I can’t even find anywhere to post. It looks nothing like your image from the introductory post.

  • No problems here… Needs a little getting used to but…
