“Dolly” sends us the news us the newspaper ad for TRU Germany (and Austria?) – the offer of a free Metallic paint Lightning McQueen with purchase of 35€ of CARS 2 stuff … you think they could’ve found one non RED Lightning McQueen product to feature in this VERY RED page.

BTW, this is what the Big Bentley track set will look like – coming soon?

Thanks for the pic, “Dolly!”

Original post and pics of the next two metallic vehicles offered is HERE.

(Note – if you planning on taking advantage of this offer in Germany/Austria – you only have until 6.1 or 1.6).

Any one remember NASCAR diecast at TRU, target, Wal and Venture? 1998 was a banner year for diecast released-target had an entire display from endcap to endcap. Seems like anything in toys keep cranking them out until people move on to something else, thats what will happen here-too much too soon. I myself was not going to collect Cars2 as I still have not finished Cars 1 BUT I caved-to an extent. I’m not a fan of all this james Bond like stuff, should have had Cars 2 in USA with more regular NASCAR type racers.
By the way-any one see ANY NASCAR diecast at any store? Nope, didn’t think so. I do understand that NASCAR killed it when they jumped in bed with the overpriced Action crap. Hey, if you like’em buy’em

After visiting the big box stores this week as compared to last week, I have noticed that the Double Decker Bus is the hardest deluxe to find, followed by Red. Luigi and Guido single and Carla Veloso single are the hardest to find. After the top four peg warmers, it seems like Jeff Gorvette is the next easiest to find. None of the two packs seem very hard to locate. Shu is the hardest of the launchers to come by. I really want to get the Barrel Blowout playset for my son. It looks like fun, but we are not going to open any Cars 2 stuff until the 24th. Hope the next wave comes out soon!

In my area Red and the Double Decker bus are not in short supply. The Tacoma TRU has approximately twenty five feet wide of running shelves jammed with castings, stand alone displays, and, then the regular die cast aisle has thirty linear feet of aisle space space plus two end caps. Yes, Wal-Mart has the least stocked inventory, but, I would not rule out a big promotion when the movie does come out.

Not saying they are in short supply, just comparing the number of them available as opposed to the number of Holley with Wings and Submarine Finn on the pegs.

Every variety store is stocked to excess in Western Washington. Nothing is moving! You have a harder time finding Hot Wheels than Cars Two. It maybe due to a lack of interest because the movie has not premiered yet. However, my viewpoint before and still is a sensory overload. For Cars One there was the original twelve, then plus four. Now the number of castings and packaging variations is enough to scare off most parents. I still wonder what will be offered at Black Friday (Thanksgiving) and Christmas? What will become of Cars One characters? After all the DVD for Cars One is still a good seller and will probably be offered with Cars Two in a combo pack.

The price differential around here is amazing. Wal-Mart is selling singles at $3.47. Target at $3.99. TRU at $4.19. Fred Meyer at $4.49. What will be the shelf life for the initial castings before steep discounts?

I think Mattel would have been better off ‘bleeding’ out the Cars Two castings, so buyers and collectors could absorb the castings at a leisurely pace. After all, how long did it take for Target to sell off their cases of Final Lap castings?

The Cars 2 stuff has come out early; my usual interest in movie toys has coincided with the film’s release, but this one is different. I think it will pick up in a month. (My Targets are packed, the TRU is light on the 5-packs but otherwise full, and the Walmarts never were well-stocked.)

There are so many duplicates you can accumulate trying to get what you want, and that’s discouraging. I wish there were more of the exclusives as singles, but I guess those are coming…I have three Finns already, but it was worth it to get the two Tombers. But–even though I like Zen Master Pitty, I don’t like him enough to get another dupe as well. It gets expensive, and what do we do with all the extras? I’ve repackaged two five-packs for my nephew, but I’ve had to buy extra singles to fill them out! Different eye positions is one thing, but the packaging of exclusive characters with other routine ones is wicked.

The only thing is good right now with the promo, and not because of the car, is that the expensier set are on sale from €24,99 to €19,99 πŸ™‚

Too much is like not enough…

It’s like the movie “Castaway”. For four years Tom Hanks’s character was stuck on an island and had to learn to hunt for food to survive. Once he was back in Memphis and his welcome back party was over, there was a whole buffet of food from which he was able to simply pick up a piece of shrimp. The look on his face was priceless — it was like “that’s all there is to it???”. And since the party was over, he had to have know that all those leftovers — LOTS of them — would probably go to waste.

  • Dolly says:

Thanks Met for posting this. I went today as i said and ask if i could see the Promo Car πŸ™ Then she came with the exclusive Ransburg McQueen. I ask her if that was a JOKE?! I told her, that one i can order online for €6,99 why spend €25.- just to get it for free? Had to explain her that NORMALLY, Promo Cars from TRU have been cars we couldn’t buy at stores. Of course, is not her foult but PLEASEEEE.
Well, i didn’t buy anything. So sad. πŸ™

Is everyone else seeing overly-flowing pegs like I am? Maybe it’s just because the movie is not out yet, but sheesh! Everywhere I go it’s Pegwarmer City.

    • Jack says:

No most are selling well around here. It’s the overpacking of Lightning, Mater, Finn and Francesco that’s the problem and will leave the pegs stocked.
Hopefully when the 2bies see the movie they start buying these.
As for the short packed cars and new releases they are flying off the shelves.

      • John in Missouri says:

Haven’t been to the Toys R Us 30 miles up the road, so I don’t know how they’re doing, but with the exception of the stuff I’ve purchased, it would appear that the Big Three in my town haven’t sold any Movie Moments, Deluxe, Launchers, Shake ‘n’ Go’s, and certainly not any playsets. It would also appear that my Wal-Marts haven’t sold a single Mater’s Secret Mission 2-pack.

…I guess I could have saved some space on this page and just said the only thing selling are Singles. Oh well, time will tell on this line.

        • por356 says:

          John,
If the pegs are full it just means that you haven’t made the correct interpretation of “Collect them all”! You are probably reading as “Collect one or two of each type”. Now, go out there and collect them ALL! πŸ™‚

          • quercy says:

My Super Center Wal-Mart didn’t sell any yet. None. nothing at all…Nada! I am not joking, not even a single Carla Veloso!!!… Why? Because they didn’t put anything out from the backstore yet!!!… We are “THE DAY” plus ten now… Very difficult to understand…

            (MET: That’s weird).

          • John in Missouri says:

I need two things to be able to do that:

            1) More cash, and
            2) More room!

    • jestrjef says:

I have to agree that MOST of my stores seem to have plenty of stock, but some of them I have been in do look like they have been cleaned out of things. Walmart has DEFINITELY stocked a TON of those Mater’s Secret Mission 2 packs, which makes me wonder how long it might be before the second case makes it out. I am pretty sure that after the movie hits, there will be a ton of new collector’s scooping up Cars 2 Cars!! πŸ™‚

    • Dunroamin says:

overflowing in my area too…target looked like they haven’t sold anything over the last few weeks…kinda sad…will probably be sold out once the movie starts…

  • buckland-blowouts says:

So glad we are not collecting this round around!!! TOO MANY Cars ALREADY!!!!!

I wish we had the room to buy them all but… So Sad!!! They are all so tasty looking!!! But all around the world this is gonna be one hell of a collection to put together!!! Good luck ya’ll!!!

    • Mr. T says:

Have to agree with you on this one…. I started to collect them – got the first 7 or 8 and then went out and got the first oversized stuff. Took back two of them and have completely stopped. The weird thing is that I am not even sad that I am not collecting these. Guess I am living it vicariously through this site… Happy collecting everyone!

(I am however going to get the rest of the rubber tire racers from C1 and hydraulic ramome….) πŸ™‚
