Disney Stores Re-Launch San Francisco: Tons ‘O Disney Pixar CARS

The re-launch & opening of the San Francisco Disney Store is today at 10 AM (PST).

It’s on 39 Stockton Street, right by the BART Powell exit as well the Apple Store (and about 3 blocks from their previous location).

You also have another reason to go on Day 1 – in addition to everything all new, Disney is donating 10% of opening day’s proceeds to the MAKE A WISH FOUNDATION.

The post later today will cover the rest of the store and non-CARS product but of course, CARS gets the first and important over-view.

You can’t miss it by the left side of the lower level as you come in. Please do not knock over any little kids. 🙂

If you’re collecting the Disney Store 1:43 scale CARS in the display box, it looks like the relaunch “Imagination” Disney Stores are the best place to find them – the “other” Disney stores will get the releases on cards.

And yea, while we knew some of these sets were coming, it was great to see them on the shelves!

The super nice Piston Cup 10-Piece Diecast Set.

The actual box on the side looks like this but if you display it on its side, you get the full effect … or buy two for the ultra cool display effect of a cyclone wheel …

While they have been released on singles, they are not necessarily easy to find and RPM & No Stall are exclusives to this set.

There is also a Radiator Springs 10-Piece Diecast Set … a subset of the 20-pack but a nice starter set.

These two sets are not available online yet.

And of course, the great Mater Truck Wrestling – 1:43 Disney Store scale versions … You can view our more detailed post HERE.

They are available online now separately: Paddy O’Concrete, Tormentor, Frightening McMean and I-Screamer.

And of course the cool Mater Tall Tales Box Sets, the newest one – Heavy Metal Mater (HM Mater not online yet).

While this set is not new, for those who want a larger Mack for the 1:55 Mattel CARS, you might want to take a look at “Lightning McQueen Runaway Racer.”

It comes with a smaller Disney Store Lightning McQueen (NOT the regular 1:43 scale)

Does anyone actually have this set to test the scale?

This one is available online HERE.

I think this new to the US? Unless I have missed it before … Tip & Race Playset.

Plastic? Diecast?

And this set that was previously in the UK is now available in the US. It looks like it’s just called Lights and Sounds? Not online yet. The Monster trucks are the smaller NOT 1:43 scale though it looks like the Ref Pitty is 1:43 scale.

Of course, the centerpiece is the Ridemakerz setup. You pick a car body and accessorize – build it there or take it home to build …

I think this is the new –  carbon body look Lightning – nice!

plus some very cool decals …

And the “Imagination” (relaunch) Disney Stores also have the ornaments up … the rest of the Disney Stores will get them but not until later in November …

The McQueen ornament is solid METAL … so no Charlie Brown tree … it will take your tree down.

And yea, I want a bookcase with a handle! Where is this in the catalog?

So, if you live in SF Bay Area, the relaunch SF store is open (well at 10 AM today) … next up is Dallas and Freehold NJ next week I think so you don’t have long to wait. Then only two more in 2010 – Cherry Hills, NJ and what might be a big deal – TIMES SQUARE …

If you’re not on the list, 80 stores will be converted in 2011.

Sked of what’s up next.

Rest of store POST coming up in a few hours.

Just visited the relaunched San Francisco Disney store and it’s nothing compared to the original location. It’s 2 levels, but very small, nothing fancy. I later visited a Disney Mall store and saw a huge difference. The new relaunched store has poor lighting, one greeter at the entrance but lack of customer service anywhere on the floor. I ended up buying gifts at the Disney Mall location instead. And a bunch of the Pixar Cars item were clearanced out too! Score!!!

    Ladies & Gentlecars,

In my humble opinion the Disney stuff is bigger but not better than our product, especially the die cast stuff. Attention to detail is not as good and their packaging does not even come close to ours, so there 🙂 Copycats 🙂

Guess I’ll never be able to get a designers job at Disney now 🙁

    Miss you knuckleheads……….

I agree!! Good to see you checking in on your first family. We miss you man!! 🙂

Agree totally. Especially the face/eyes. On some the expressions are totally off, like Mater. And being bigger, I would expect more detailing in the metal. The Japanese Takara cars, they are smaller and have very nice detailing, but the proportions seem off. And again, with them its the faces/eyes and expressions too. That seems to be the most critical area to get right. And only Mattel does!

IM FROM THE HAGERSTOWN MD AREA AN THEY HAD A DISNEY STORE IN OUR MALL A FEW YEARS BACK,BUT FOR SOME ODD REASON THEY SHUT IT DOWN.I GUESS THEY DIDNT MAKE MUCH MONEY IN THIS AREA . EVERYTIME I WENT INTO THE STORE IT WAS SO CROWDED AT LEAST I THOUGHT SO . SO MY COMMENT IS WHY CANT WE HAVE A DISNEY STORE NEER US EVEN IF ITS IN THE FREDRICK MD AREA .THANK YOU THE DISNEY CAR COLLECTOR

Didn’t know there was a Disney Store Bessie?

  • Monica says:

Still haven’t made it to our new store in Fashion Valley, going to have to check that out soon. As for the big day toorrow, I have to choose between KMart and a Halloween parade, they start at the same time :(.

    • Man-I-Fold says:

Well, the Chase car will be “painted” and “masked”, according to the advertisement, so you could get a bit of a Halloween costume party at Cars day.

  • erno2 says:

RPM & No Stall are the only two new releases in the racers gift pack so hopefully they will come out in Singles 1/43 package as well. I found TJ 1/43 single pack at Disney the other day. I think that is new.

I really like some of the Disney Store stuff. I just wish it was more in scale with the Mattel Cars or even better I wish more Disney Stores here carried Mattel Cars as in the UK.
The thought of doing a whole other line is just too much for me. So I buy some of the sets here and there. The Disney Store Frank and Bessie are great but I just can’t collect a different size now. Mattel is giving us enough to buy.
I do really like shopping at the Disney stores though. Hope everyone enjoys the new ones.

My friend works at the State St Disney Store here in Chicago.

Though the strangest thing is when they opened, they had the Cars Ridemakerz there, but when I went back during the last week, they had pulled this section out of the store.

  • DDD says:

I saw the lights/sounds set with I-Screamer on the UK Web site…great to see it here now. They also have the big Monster set online with Mack and the trucks including Dr. Frankenwagon (who’s not as close to the character design as everyone else). Any word on that coming to the U.S.?

Do we think Disney might make a Frankenwagon’s Monster Truck? They did such a great job on the big Frank. I bought a Wrastlin’ Ring playset and am fiddling with a custom, but it will just be the monster parts on wheels.

  • Micky says:

We went to the soft opening of the store at International Plaza in Tampa a few weeks ago. Very nice store. I almost bought those Cars in plastic cases but decided not to get started on another collection LOL. They were hard to resist 🙂

  • Hostile Takeover Banker says:

Sometimes I am glad I live nowhere near a Disney store. 🙂
