While there will be Christmas Storytellers … the “regular” Storyteller series is not returning to Target in 2010 …
They might return at some point down the line but not in 2010 …

I am in total agreement with you on this one Barb. Just not enough put out period.
Last years Storytellers were some of my all time favorite Cars. It’s just too bad so many collectors have to be without them for now.
The distribution of the newer Storytellers last November was spotty here
One Target got a full case of the Cousins and Motorama Girls singles, in early November and I was able to get them from a full case of the singles, minus the 2 Sponsorless Mcqueens and 1 Brand New Mater in the case. There were 2 Bufords but only one Cletus and Jud and one each of Rhonda Sheila Laverne. and the 3 pegwarmers.
But here I never saw them shelved, because the stores would not put them out until they sold the previous years Storytellers which clogged the pegs.
A month later in early Dec, when the 3 packs came out, the Cousins and Motorama girls 3 packs were also never pegged. The only way to get the Bubba/Mater cousins (2) per case, motoramas 3 packs (1 per case), Cousins (2 per case) and a older 3 pack with Mcqueen were from the stockroom by asking for them. In my city Targets were only clearancing the older ones in late Dec.
In my experience, unless one knew these were available and asked, one would never have found them just by going into the stores and looking.
Darn! I’m only missing Bubba and the yellow show girl to have a complete set!
This means some storytellers are going to be extremely rare and hard to get until they are released again. Why??????
Man I’m glad I got the few from this last one that I could find. Bubba is probably my favorite out of the the ENTIRE Cars run. But I passed up on Mater’s cousins to get him.
That’s not so cool that they aren’t being put back out as I was hoping to finish out this set. Next year will probably be inundated by so many new Cars 2 cars these will probably disappear. I think these might be the real rare subset in years to come.
I saw them once last year – all the multipacks and I picked them up and never opened them like I do with all our other cars. I’m really glad I didn’t.
Well they couldn’t sell the 4 pack car toons at $20, I don’t know what makes them think they’ll sell at $30.

Damn it! I hope they bring back at least in one shipment… still missing Cousins from the 3-Pack… Damn it! So they take this out and put 20+ Mcqueens in it’s place? Truly sad indeed. Kind of glad I picked up my Showstopper Girls & Bubba Packs 😀 Man… come on Mattel… bring Cousins back… or put them on matty 😀
This is a smart move by Mattel or Target. If they kept re-releasing everything then everyone would know this and just put off purchasing when the line intially came out. The line would sit on the pegs and retailers would be upset with Mattel. I was able to get all the Storyteller packs but I do remember that Target ended up putting a lot of the line on clearance. The toy section is one of the most profitable so I’m sure they are tired of having to clearance Cars stuff. I think Cars 2 when it comes out will re-energize the Cars brand.
Definitely not a smart move. How can you like a distribution that Denies many collectors and children to opportunity to get these? Furthermore there was no reason for Target to put these on clearance. They just wanted to sell them out quick for some reason.
Had Target left these on the shelf at regular price they would have sold them all and more.
I visit many Targets and all of these were gone in my area long before they ever went on clearance.
I too have them and sent many dozens overseas to help other collectors but just because I have mine doesn’t mean I want to see others without them.
What does Cars 2 have to do with the Storyteller line? Of course a new movie will help sell more merchandise. That’s a big reason why they are making another one.
If anything the nonsensical distribution of these lines causes more collectors to get fed up with the line.
They really should release more of these and let everyone who wants them have a chance.
Ah shoot. I still need the Motorama Girls, the Cousins and Bubba…I forgot to mention Retro Ramone. Well dad gum, I guess my collection of those will stay incomplete.
Rats! I was really looking forward to getting Bubba for Manifold Jr. He’s his favorite character from the comic books. Looks like we’ll have to keep playing with the cardboard version (cardboard placed over a Mater with face drawn on).
Well that stinks. Oh well, at least we’re still getting Christmas cars from Mater saves Christmas.
Wow! I thought for sure that they would throw a pile of them out from last year and see what they could make off of them before Christmas! The second batch of Storytellers with Bubba, the Cousins and Showstoppers … they NEVER really hit the stores down here … I remember people reporting HUGE end caps full of three packs and single and the end of last year in other places … it just never happened down this way. I am glad that I had a few friends that helped us get what we needed. 😀

It’s terribly unfair for Matell to give a store in one country an exclusive and then it such short supply.
There are so many collectors that didn’t get these. The showstopper girls were only 1 per case as three packs and only some stores received a decent amount of singles.
I am happy I got mine and was able to help many others get them. Sam was a great help to other collectors with these.
However this was yet another low blow by Mattel and Disney. Can’t say I’m not used to it.
Yeah, I hope the UK and Canada can get some of this stuff. I don’t have last year’s storytellers. Don’t tell me Mattel wants us to keep trading? That’s why this is such a great site. Maybe I’ll start doing some trades.
Oh, well. I’ll never get these. I’d rather have these over Toons. Toons tell no backstory, and it’s just McQueen & Mater variants. Here with storytellers, we are getting something new. Any update on the haulers?
I noticed VT hauler is 15 and Shifty is 17, and I can’t find #12 and #16. Which 2 Piston Cup teams are those? My guess is Bumper Save and Easy Idle, but, who knows. Do haulers only get a # if they’re single haulers? And, will Bumper Save and Easy Idle haulers ever be realeased as single haulers?
Too bad – Those are at the top of our list of awesome cars in the collcetion…

And Bubba is in my personal top five for sure… ERRR Wait – Top ten… UMMMM Yeah top one hundred!!! There are too many that are soooo fantastic!!!!

Well I can understand this since there are still about 60 Cars Toons clogging the pegs at my Target. They should clearance those out to make room for Story Tellers. Maybe next year…
