Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: SDCC Mater + Exclusive Photos

By now, you have probably seen the photos of the Mattel offerings for San Diego Comic Con – as predicted they expended most of their effort on action figures …

It’s Tokyo Mater with flames and presumably Ransburg-Metallic finish, it’s unknown if the SDCC version will have rubber tires.

Here is a closer look – thanks for the nice photos, “Ninja Nikko.”

Presumably if this does not sell out at SDCC, they will be available at MattyCollector.com

Thanks Ninja Nikko for the nice photos.

And on a totally 100% unrelated note, Lorri R. wants you all to know there are now two CARS Potty Trainers …

The Three In One Potty Trainer.
The one on the left are all the things we look for not in a toilet but a sports car –

“Comfortable and durable with high back & Easy to clean removable bowl”

(not that we will be doing neither … HONEY!)

Disney Pixar Cars Flush N Sounds 3 in 1 Potty

  • Disney Cars design and fun sounds encourage your toddler and make toilet training less intimidating

Well, I just got one of the SDCC Tokyo Maters from overseas. It is certainly a nice looking Mater variant, there is no question about that. However, they couldn’t possibly dress up the package enough to justify the $20. This is a really nice looking “Mega-Sized” vehicle and well worth the $7 retail…not worth the $20 price tag.

  • Jonny2Scarves says:

Does anybody know what the exclusive Lego SDCC items will be?

    Thanks.

    Jon

  • acuransx says:

    Monica,

    Thanks again.

I won’t be going to SDCC this year but I do have my SDCCLSMC, SDCC Rescue Squad Mater, and a custom made Pearl finished Coca-Cola Delivery Truck on my computer table as I type this. Kinda proud of those.

Got the delivery truck from Traver and I can’t remember his name now that I’ve been off the line for over a year…..it’s not Todd but the other bigger retro truck, anyway, it looks awesome, thanks Traver, you moron πŸ™‚ It’s loves.

Sorry, no clue to this years Mattel DP SDCC offering as I had nothing to do with it. Have fun @ the SDCrazyCone on me………..

PiratePop, what’s up? your comment on the Flex Force WWE figures is dead on but I can’t take credit for those bad boys but they do look awesome. I Design/Develop Max Steel product which is only sold in Latin America. My peeps. Did over 80 million last year and my designs will hit in Spring ’11.

Jake, hope you, your son, and your site are doing well.

    Go Max Steel………..

  • Matt says:

Another middle finger from Mattel to the original line and the collectors that made this series what it is. I could understand last year with the first push of the Toonz, but now Mattel is really showing that they do not care, or even acknowledge what the true collector fan, which is what the Comic Con is about, cares about. The final confirmation of this will be the next K-Mart day when I am putting good money down that the racers released will all be lenticular. That will then raise the middle finger on the other hand.

    (Smiley face)

  • Flik'sFriend says:

well… I will be happily standing in line to buy him… he’ll go very nicely with the rest of the set…. πŸ™‚

  • buckland-blowouts says:

Todd and Tokyo Mater – both lit up!!!

    Or Tokyo Todd!!!

    PIZZA PRANET!!!

  • slicepie says:

I was told last year at SDCC that this year’s exclusive would be going back to only one vehicle in a display box/jewel case type enclosure. I was also told that it would be something new that had never previously been released (which this one is) but for obvious reasons they wouldn’t say the actual vehicle. So for those who didn’t know, this has been in the works for nearly a year.

(MET: Well, to be technical, it was reportedly Todd with a Light Up Pizza Planet logo on his roof …. then it was a 4-in-a-box like last year with lights, then two in a box with lights and ultimately this … so if you were wagering, that’s all the answers πŸ™‚ ).

  • buckland-blowouts says:

Never thought I’d say this, but… Thanks God for Matty!!! That funbag better come through in 2010 SDCC!!!

Gots to say, I am dyin’ to get me an early B-Day present of R/C Mater and McQueen a la drift!

This lil Ransburg guy will fit nicely into the collection too!

  • Monica says:

Well, he’s cute, but not terribly exciting. I was hoping for something with a little more pizzaz, especially for $20.

    • buckland-blowouts says:

Dually said… Maybe a nice Lizzie and What’s his name from 1909? Stan?!?! The two of them in ransburg-mint condition… Maybe with flames? (A lil’ anachronistic… but hey – This is a dream world, non?)

    • Fiddleheads says:

I agree. I would have been happy to pay a few extra bucks for some flashing LED lights behind the background signs and light up flames. Also would have been great to see Mia and Tia in the set.

Mater still looks cool and I’ll be getting him for sure. πŸ™‚

  • Jinzo says:

hmn… Hate the box and how it looks… looks like imitation off brand cars… probably pick one up… maybe… don’t know.. man.. what happened to really awesome SDCC exclusives? 2008 was really awesome. 2009 was really good and nice… now this? Hopeful the background will light up or something…

  • acuransx says:

    Ladies & Gentlecars,

Thanks………………….it was never just me but an entire team effort. I miss you as well.

  • kevin roche says:

    DONE!!!!!

have most of the main characters, haulers and others, full 2 sets of rubber tire kmarts un opened and an extra sdcc mater set from last year.

    all in great condition

  • PirateDad says:

My first reaction was Martin did NOT make this….have you guys seen the Flex Force WWE stuff out lately, it HAS to be Martin;s work, so realistic and spot on…i do not own a single one, nor will I, but they are really well done!!!

As far as SDCC Tokyo mater…SERIOUSLY?? $20??? For what?

  • Steve AKA: Poppa says:

I never became interested in the Car Toon line based on four minute cartoons. And, I certainly will never get interested in a “manufactured collectible,” which is exactly what this is. The SDCC exclusive never hit it big in the secondary market because the Cars line is a line of toys. Generally speaking toy collectors are resistant to being ‘hosed down’ with high priced limited editions.

  • 5oclockshadow says:

I think this exclusive is seriously going to be a bust.

Last year’s SDCC exclusive (Rescue Squad Mater) was one of the best products released so far, and it still took about a week to sell out on matty. The aftermarket never materialized on the 2009 exclusive either, which I believe will drive the majority of re-sellers away from this year’s exclusive. Only thing that will save it would be a low production number – 2,000 or less.

  • cac1959 says:

I can truthfully say that I don’t want this… Unless the photo of the box is a mock-up and not a final product, it does not excite me. Ever since Martin was reassigned to the WWE product line from Cars, the Cars line seems to me be wandering aimlessly without consistent direction, with many more quality control problems than there were before. If it wasn’t good enough for Martin, it wasn’t good enough for us… now, if it’s good enough for a quick sale, they get it out the door. Well Mattel, you can fool many of the people a lot of the time, but you are curing me of being a Cars-a-holic. I’m at the point where I’ll buy what I can find from the movie in stores or from friends at close to retail products, but I’m done paying $10 for a single, $25 for a hauler, and $30 for a team set… and I’m rapidly losing my desire to take 150 to 250 mile round trips to visit the closest cities with Target stores… I was going to go this morning and decided I’d rather work on the fence for my dog run, till the garden, and cut the 1.5 acres of grass that I cut.

    • Mr. T says:

I will probably buy this one but I agree with you cac1959 – I am losing the zeal for the collection too. I am up to date with all my MTT stuff but am seriously considering selling off that line. Nothing opened – it’s kinda like I knew that this was coming. Don’t get me wrong – still LOVE the main line stuff – as I have posted many times before – FINISH IT!!!!!

I will collect the MTT Tokyo stuff only because it is the best of them all – the others – time to say goodbye…… πŸ™

    • Jack says:

Very well said Chris. As a matter of fact I usually relate to your posts. I too am a CarsAholic and feel very similar. I honestly don’t know how much Martin not running the line factors in but there is definitely less to be excited about collecting Cars lately. Definitely quality control is down and distribution is horrible as well. Between exclusives at different stores and a trickled supply it’s very frustrating. Most stores should carry most Cars and there should be enough to go around. It’s either overpay for something now or wait a few weeks or months after something is released to finally find it in a store or get it from a friend or good member not trying to gouge us for their good fortune of finding something early. I too am learning to be patient. I don’t mind someone making a few bucks for helping us get new releases but I am not paying scalper prices either. I really hope Mattel works on fixing these problems or I will be spending alot more time in my yard as well. At least with my dwarf Japanese Maple collection I don’t have to deal with this type of nonsense. I have new Cars Toons coming from France. Collectors guides coming from England. I have to go to Walmart to try and find chase Cars, Target for final laps other exclusives. I am still searching for new haulers that have only been released here and there(of course the people who have found them early want too much for them) and I am waiting for TRUs new exclusive set. This stinks and can’t last.

  • BMW says:

    flames? light up?

(MET: I fairly certain they are not. I do not believe they are even rubber tires and I think the box LED effect is also gone … I think it’s just Ransburg finish … now, it might be more substantially metal like last year’s Ransburg Rescue mater versus regular Mater but that’s also hard to say … so other than ransburg, the rest is just a guess at this point).

  • Sibsy says:

Yea, this doesn’t make me very excited. :\

  • Man-I-Fold says:

Love the display background of Tokyo.

They should have made these potty chairs pit-stop themed…

  • Richard says:

I hope Mattel has a better system planned for purchasing items at their booth this year. Last year I got a pass to come back in line to purchase items and it was for the next day.

  • AlbertHinkey says:

    SUCK!

I like it when Matty sells me a car that is 90% plastic and calls it diecast.

They should patent their new plastic cars with metal detailing. It is truly revolutionary!

  • lou says:

very lame. and sort of a middle finger to all the fans. either do it right or don’t bother. what is the $20 for?? one car, come on Mattel we deserve better.

  • John in Missouri says:

Nikko and Lorri always find the coolest things. They are the Fonzie and the Pinky Tuscadero of this site.

    • Nascarfan says:

Then Laverine and Shirley would be Chuki Mama and ??

      Lenny and Squiggy would be?

    • Lorri says:

So are you gettin the potty John? I wanna know what that gear shifter is for AND I want to know what “sounds” it makes……
On the Tokyo Mater, I think it looks cool and I will of course be gettin one but like other said I was hoping for something a little more exciting. They shouldve saved the Flo’s set for this and added special paints. Now that wouldve been cool!

  • Mike H says:

    Potty-training?

    *Ker-PLUNK!*

  • BBIG MIKE says:

Glad this year’s SDCC item is something I don’t want. That will be a big dollar saver. Getting previous year’s items from the actual movie was an expensive proposition.
