Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Final Lap New & Old Math Check List

If you read this morning’s post, you-we found out there are three new CARS on the Final Lap list but there’s much more … in addition to the three new Final Lap CARS added, there are 15 re-releases added. Some are not great surprises, Ghostlight Ramone or Cactus Lightning McQueen … other ADDS are a nice like Lizzie or Van … some are interesting surprises like Chuck Manifold? … But there are some weird additions – really? Trunk Fresh Pitty? Pit Crew Fillmore?

But the bigger question is how it affects the Final Lap distribution … Currently the numbers are …

There were to be about 40 “new” Final Lap CARS along with 13 re-releases. In a given year, there are generally about 17 CASES available to re-sellers – but since the Final Lap got kind of a late start and it’s only for Target, with 5 cases shipped, it seems reasonable there would be about 7-8 more cases in the next 7 months to close out the CARS “year.” That works out to about 3.X new CARS a box which is about the average of the 5 cases shipped so far. With 40 Final Lap CARS scheduled and with 15 released so far, we had about 25 more “new” CARS over the 7-8 cases.

But now a new wrinkle …

With the addition and new total of @28 re-releases and either 29 or 34 Final Lap releases – meaning there will be a total of 49 or 43 “new” Final Lap CARS (including the 15 released already) which is all fine and good – no complaints there but cramming 29 or 34* NEW CARS over the next 8 cases is a LOT OF NEW CARS and very, very unlikely … that is close to 5 NEW CARS per case PLUS the additional 15 new re-releases … that is a LOT of CARS – clearly the math does not add up.

The most plausible explanation is that they are stretching out the Final Lap series to at least the end of 2010 – which means about 10 more cases – which puts the “new” ratio back to about 3.X per case … AND with all the re-releases added – maybe stretch out the Final Lap series until they bump up against April 2011 when CARS2 CARS finally arrive … so, the Final Lap series has maybe 12-13 more cases left versus the 7 or 8 that we originally planned.

If that is the plan, the we will probably start seeing a return to the previous years where there are only 2-3 NEW CARS per case and many more re-releases … hard to say for certain but it’s a strong possibility.

*Now that CHASE CARS are lenticular, there are 5 CHASE CARS scheduled that have no equivilient NON-Lenticular release so we can probably presume they will get a release of them as “new” but hard to say for certain. You could certainly argue that Fillmore with an organic gas can is the same CAR with a CHASE accessory but Mater with Blue Hood or even Ransburg King … will we see a non-lenticular release – otherwise, it’s against the agreement of not releasing a lenticular CAR before the non-lenticular version?

Also note, just because a CAR is on a list, it just means it’s scheduled for now but that schedule could change. Conversely, if it’s not listed, while it’s most likely not coming like Leroy Traffik but it’s not an absolute guarantee of anything – it’s just a list that accurate as of right now. In other words, it’s all just a roll of some tumbling dice …

So, some nice surprises, some expected, some strange and some puzzling … 🙂

Of course, as noted, they can continue to add and or subtract CARS randomly, arbitrarily and capriously so we could see them all, see only some or see even more … happy collecting!

  • Simba1814 says:

I just found a Van With “out” stickers and he is lenticular. Will he be available in Non-lentic also..I sure hope so.

  • Rob says:

have the following already been out in Final Lap because I haven’t seen them:

    Pit Crew Doc
    Pit Crew Fillmore
    Pit Crew No Stall Chief
    Chief RPM

Or are they going to be jumping around on the list and not releasing them in numeric order.

On the plus side, if this holds true (not doubting you Met, doubting I’ll see them at Target) that means I don’t have to go fishing on eBay.

(MET: There’s no order and no, none of these four have been re-released yet. We are overdue for the next FL case though).

  • Mara says:

any news on what the k-mart cars will be?

(So far, Dale Jr & Transberry).

  • jestrjef says:

I am not sure if anyone ELSE is feeling this way …. but I think the next Case of Final Lap is coming soon …. with in the next two weeks …. I just hope that Team Octane Gain and the other NEWEST Haulers will be on the shelf right under them! 🙂

I have a friend that always finds what he is looking for without any problems. When lenticular eyes Vern and Jay Limo came out, he didn’t purchased them because he found out from a Target employee that those two cars were coming out in the final lap series with regular eyes. A week later, he was one of the fortunate collectors to find them with regular eyes. I don’t know how he does it, but he does.

  • big doug says:

finally, Lizzie has come back for the final lap series!!!!! shame im in the UK,lol. i rely hope they release her lenticular then i can finaly have her.

  • BMW says:

Green Ramone? Please save us from more Green Ramones! Those pegwarmers ruined the TRU promos, as G Ramone clogged the pegs during both SWS and N20 Colar promo periods. Mattel please retire Green Ramone.

Sally with Cone: will continue to be hard to get.
Milton Calypeer: Lenticular. Good for folks who never found him.
Kori Turbowitz: not on list for re release, who had a big speaking part. Strange. Guess Kori will stay a Walmart exclusive.
Ghostlight Ramone: Why him and not Kori?
Dexter with green flag: not on list, does this mean we have to spend 20 for the flag? Time for paint.

But lots of very nice new Cars coming.
Really hope the N20 Cola Chief and Pitties come soon.

Met any news on SDCC exclusives?

(MET: Will update on SDCC if announcement doesn’t come on the 15th).

Again – Thanks for the lists, Dude-Met-Dude…

Head space is gettin’ a little low on storage …

Now that is just so FUNNY… WHEN someone on here asked ME where he or she could find one of MY CUSTOMS a.k.a. EASTER MATER – I very INNOCENTLY replied… BUT THEN I WAS SCOLDED FOR POSTING… YET in the past few days I have seen several others asking and getting POSTED ADDRESS, e-mail’s, directions and price posting for how much and where to send it to / buy/ swap/ what ever… I guess I just have bad breath!

I think I’m from the “Show Me State” when it comes to Cars. When I see it on the peg is when I’ll believe it. People were calling on the end of Final Lap/Cars releases on Saturday’s post. Not too far back it was all going to be lenticular….blah. Obviously, Mattel/Target has found their sweet spot with Final Lap. They know exactly how many to buy in order to make them fly off the pegs. Still frustrating that they don’t make more of the cars everyone wants/still needs. Lizzie and Van are nice to see though but those will be gobbled up even in Final Lap.

  • rockbottom says:

The trips to Target are decreasing because nothing new has com in since Christmas. Always new NW Fla was the stepchild to the world. I found Google Eyed Jay Lemo and Vern. Bought reluctantly because I don’t know if we will ever see more Final Lap cars. Might have to wait until June KMart days to see any excitement around here. I am happy for those who are able to find the new ones.

  • Jack says:

Well you will probably want to pay for the Cars themselves when you do find them. LOL. Let’s not forget to add in some other costs as well.
Snacks you will have to buy kids while driving them from store to store,
Other Cars or items you will buy when at the stores anyway,
Packing materials for the trades/sales you will do with extras you find,
Additional display cases or other storage and or shelving you will need for our continuing to grow collections,
And the list goes on and on and on.

  • I-am-speed says:

Let’s add a chart that calculates:

    A. Time(H/M/S) spent trying to find all of these.

    B. Fuel used driving to find, or not find, all of these.

    C. Frustration/blood pressure medication expense incurred trying to find all of these.

    D. Hair replacement cost after pulling our hair out trying to find all of these.

    Any other “costs” I’m forgetting?

  • I-am-speed says:

My head hurts after looking at those charts…….. 🙂

  • rpag says:

what is up with the new and old math? I can not follow at all, sorry

    • collectormom says:

I think you have to look at the dice above for the numbers. For example:

      Old Math
      @ 13 re-releases
      @ 40 new Final Lap
      @ 53 total Final Lap

My question is this: Do the checklist numbers on the Cars package for Mainline and Lenticular coincide or are they different checklists. I know that was discussed before but I can’t seem to find the answer again. Looking at the list above it looks like they all go together on one big list but just want to be sure, for those of us keeping score at home 🙂

(MET: Len & Non numbering scheme the same and in theory, everything has to be released as a non-lenticular first …).

  • 5oclockshadow says:

I say 8 or 9 new cases tops

rest will get mixed in with Cars 2
