Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Final Lap Clearance, Clarance (Well in One Store)

“Nikko” stumbled upon this at a store …

Don’t worry – it looks like a store generated sticker. They probably saw the only one on the shelf and found none in the stockroom so time to mark it down …

The perfect Saturday post – it’s almost something but it’s ultimately nothing 🙂

No way the Cars line is ending anytime soon. With another movie coming next year and Carsland coming in 2012, I think the powers that be have made it clear they are planning to continue to merchandise everything Cars related for awhile. Obviously the toy Cars themselves have to be continued.
I do think disribution will probably continue to change. Perhaps even as speculated by some the Final lap cars may be carried elsewhere. As Met has pointed out, the Final lap Cars have never said Target only like Targets other exclusives do.
I am sure Mattel and the other companies invovled constantly analyze sales and profits. With so many people complaining about the availability of certain Cars I am sure it’s been looked into.
Unlike politicians if enough people voice their displeasure companies sometimes actually listen. Especially if it is a high enough number of people to hurt profits. Then you can bet it will be fixed. Who knows maybe the plan all along was to limit final laps just enough at first to make people hungry for them before flooding the market.
Now they can release more in an apparent bid to make it up to us collectors and then sit back and laugh as the final lap Cars go on to be the biggest selling Cars line ever.
In any event I don’t think not having some kind of new Cars to buy for the next few years is going to be a problem. They will build them and the people will come.

No panic here, clears the way for case F. Our newest, bestest, biggest Target has 9 FL Radiator Springs Lightning McQueen and 5 FL Lightning McQueen warming the pegs, moving – um, no! We need the clearance stickers here.

Same problem here with lenticulars, old stock not moving. May be some time before seeing the next case. Sigh!

  • AlbertHinkey says:

This is nothing. It looks like a Target marked down the final laps along with the lenticulars. Or they had too many final laps at their local DC and were trying to thin the inventory after the quarter end inventory count.

  • 5oclockshadow says:

good.. maybe this will clear they way for them to to be sold at other stores. $3 at Big Lots maybe?

This year should be slow for Cars.. lower production runs …. but next year Mattel and Cars will be be$t friend$ again …Ka-Chow.. Ka-Ching..

Let’s not go into panic mode quite yet. I’ve seen individual Target stores do things like this where it wasn’t intentional but the handiwork of an employee who doesn’t know what he/she is doing.

Last week, we found a sealed set of Seasons 1 & 2 of the “Hunter” series(Fred Dryer) with a red clearance/online order sticker on it for like $2.99, sitting on an end cap in Electronics.

Walked 20 feet over to the video section, there are more of them on the shelve, regular-priced at $14.99.

Needless to say, we are now the proud owners of Season 1 & 2 of Hunter. 😉

    also

i think the lenticular cars may be cancelled if Kevin W is correct and there $1.50 at walmart.and i noticed the slow production in the lauchers being made.also i found ALOT of errors before the race o rama line was cancelled. and i have recently found alot of final lap errors. i have seen this movie before. also back on the lecticular i have noticed that target has been getting cases with both king and ramone chase cars in the same case at 2 different targets same thing. sounds like the show is over.

  • beast1997 says:

    my guess:

its all over. now that there on clearance they will soon be cancelled, this would not be the first time this happened. my target clearanced the race o rama cars and 2 weeks later the line was cancelled. so look for only a few target stores to get jamie and johnny.mostly discount stores will get the rest what ever target doesnt buy.i had a feeling once RD mood springs was made that they will cancel the line, because they now have made everyone on the back of the card.start the panic.

  • scott says:

i wouldnt worry about them being done with fl. come on all toy story 3 toys are on clearance already at target and i know it is not the last we are seeing of them

  • Kevin W says:

I just checked my Walmart. The Lenticulars are marked down to $1.50. There are still racks and racks full with a big assortment. I guess you can’t even give them away.

  • Shelby says:

Bet that sticker doesn’t come off so nicely!

    • moe says:

Place the card where the sticker face is by a halogen light bulb or regular light bulb and let it heat up and they will remove easily.

    • I-am-speed says:

Hair dryer to soften the adhesive, followed by Goo B Gone to get the residue. Works every time.

      • Nascarfan says:

Goo Gone removes the ink on the card Or did I miss something

        • I-am-speed says:

I should have specified what I use, Quickie Professional Gunk & Goo Remover…..I always think of Goo Gone in generic terms.

Just a drop or two on the corner of a tissue usually does the trick. I can’t say I’ve had any issues with ink.

          • Nascarfan says:

            Thanks Tim,

I was wanting to put a 1-87th 1966 Batmobile on a 1966 Batmobile card hanger and inside the square bubble last year and couldnt figure out how without melting the square bubble or destroying the ink.

            I tried:

            hairdryer
            heatgun
            MRC
            Acetone
acetone free finger nail polish remover
            regular finger nail polish remover
            superglue remover
            gentle persuasion

  • jestrjef says:

I have seen a few of the Final Lap Cars on clearance …. but the little red price tag says “RE-PACKAGED” as the reason …. a couple have been taped closed …. one was STAPLED! OUCH! 😆

    • L8rM8r says:

Yeah aame here it was labeled repackage and was taped closed. Funny thing this was in a store that has never gotten any FL cars so it must have been a return.

  • Ace Diamondrunner says:

“The perfect Saturday post – it’s almost something but it’s ultimately nothing”

Seinfeld wrote it as a guest post, right Met? 🙂

  • Sabrina says:

Too bad the clearance price used to be regular prices not that long ago 😛

  • Steve AKA: Poppa says:

Looks like the pegwarmers may be discounted to the lenticular price point. Why buy a Car for $4.99 (classic or otherwise), if you can buy a Car for $3.54? Target needs to do the same with all the stagnant inventory!

  • Jinzo says:

Oh… crap… this is extremely YMMV. This could me that the store won’t carry anymore… hence discontinued…. They don’t mark them down like that. They get the DPCI number from the computer (HQ or something) and mark down what was giving by it. Clearance nowadays take forever to go down. Not sure what to say about this… 🙁
