Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Comic Con, Street Fair & Toy Show Season …

I was at Wondercon (SF) over the weekend – very crowded – good show – of course, not as big as SD Comic Con but a nice season starter …

So, in case you’re wondering why there are no CARS on the store shelves – they were pretty much all here …

There were 4-5 big CARS “cages.”

Clearly you are going to find the best prices at retail, on our TRADING FORUM, or buying cases from re-sellers but don’t forget to check out your local toy shows, collectible shows, (as the weather gets nicer) street fairs and of course, major comic cons as they roll through your area.

Most of the pricing here was $4 to $10 for most singles and higher for multi-packs again, for the newer stuff , of course, stores or online sellers will be your best bet but once a month or two passes, it’s an option. Tax are usually built-into the price tag and you get to look through the selection to make sure the card and CAR is up to your standards so paying a few bucks extra is not so bad (plus you save on driving). And of course, if you buying more than a few, you can always bargain a little.

So happy hunting!

And if there’s a local show or comic con that you like to give a thumbs up (or down to), leave it in the comments.

(I will note that in the SF Bay Area, the SJ Comic Con is solid for comic books but very weak for toys of any kind especially diecasts but Wondercon (last day today!) has plenty of toys to oogle.

It truly is something when one begins to wish for a thing such as the Star Trek Transporter to exist just so I could be there to spend money on Cars.

I would risk having my atoms scattered and reassembled JUST TO BE THERE instead of disappointed once again at my local Target/Wal-Mart/K-Mart/ToysRUs…

You can get the Star Trek Transporter at Big Lots for just $10.00. 😉

(MET: Our Big Lots has lots of furniture, Hot Wheels for $.98 and gardening gloves :-/ ).

More than likely those dealers are the same ones everyone cusses for “taking it all” at retail and the reason why you can never find anything. Every local toy show probably has at least one dealer with CARS stuff amongst the 100’s of Hot Wheels dealers!

I’d like to give a big thumbs up to the Baltimore Comic Con. They usually have at least one vendor with a decent selection of Cars. And this year will be the inaugural DC Comic Con. Hopefully, some of the same vendors that go to Baltimore will also be at the DC con. Definitely a good way to fill in the gaps to your collection, plus meet some really nice people. Comic book creators and fans are some of the nicest people you will ever meet — aside from Cars collectors, or course! 🙂

What the? [Hmmmn…. Does Homer Simpson’s expression with saliva] That’s a gold mine. I would like a second pair of Kmart Cars Day 1 and catch up with my missing Chases (which at the moment is 5 #100, #102, #115, #118, #120). Man… too bad is too far 🙁

I think I would be like a kid in a candy store if I were there.

With the rare exception of the K-Mart One castings, everything hanging there has pretty much been available at retail. Most of the stuff had at one time or another become a peg warmer. I did not see one item in any of the pictures that I have not purchased or had an opportunity to purchase. If you’re not near a K-Mart or a Target I recognize your pain. However, even Final Lap Case D has become a peg warmer in Pierce County, WA, preventing Case E to be stocked. (Or the distribution center just tosses another Case D on the outgoing pallet because, well, who really cares at Target.) I know there are T5AD collectors who want those old peg warmers from the early days, but, hey, that’s what collecting is all about. (I got my Rollin” Bowlin’ Mater for $15 at the now defunct KB liquidation center.) Of course this particular vendor has scalped the aisles of Final Laps or has a buddy at the retailer. My local kiosk at the antique mall has given up on Cars, because he cannot sell anything to clear his cost and the 20% override to the house. He does much better with Hot Wheels. That’s a different story.

    does indiana have comic con?

(MET: If you’re close to Chicago, the Wizard World Chicago Comic Con is massive with dealers selling things …).
