Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: The Collector Guide Checklist

The 2010 Collector’s Guide is out … you missed out on the contest (sorry!  :-/  ) … winner to be announced shortly.

Of the regular mainline releases, almost all are shown in lenticular which makes sense since most stores will not carry Final Lap CARS so weird to show exclusive CARS – and as noted on the cover, there are no promises about it being ‘complete.’  :-/

Of course, not even the lenticulars shown match the lenticular release list but that would be too easy …

So, the first column shows ALL the lenticulars shown with a lenticular photo in the Collector Guide … many if not most have already been released. They are marked with the double overlapping circle.

Those CARS that are shown in the booklet with either NON-lenticular eyes or a screenshot illustration get the CIRCLE.

Of course, until now, it was only mostly complicated as CHASE CARS were non-lenticular but that era is ending … so for instance, KING WITH METALLIC FINISH CHASE is shown as a non-lenticular but we’re almost certain it will be released as a lenticular so what does that portend?

For instance, some CHASE CARS only come with an accessory as the ‘exclusive’ so does that mean MCQUEEN CHASE with RUSTEZE will be the lenticular one?

And of course, if they are NOT shown in the booklet and NOT listed so far, does that mean they will NOT get a lenticular release (any CARS with numbers but with TWO blank boxes? (ie: Lizzie, Sally with Cone, Bug Mouth? Andrea?)

Guess we will find out soon enough … or later this year … or when the ULTIMATE DUPER FER SURE, FER SURE FINAL , FINAL LAP CARS start showing up … (or something like it).

The second column lists either lenticulars already released (though not as singles and NOT in the booklet) (ie: Blowing Bubbles Mater) or listed as coming though NOT in the booklet. (ie: Flo with tray).

And no questions, I just completed this chart and already I don’t understand it.

No wonder Mattel doesn’t take Cars collectors serious.

I was checking out the Mattycollector forum, and there were 13,000+ posts for the He-man series, and Cars hasn’t even cracked 100 posts yet. We rank just above Avatar figure collectors.

Maybe we should flood it, and try to take the lead.

(MET: I would argue two points a) there are no moderators so the only answers are from other readers and b) if only there was a place already to read about CARS and get answers … 🙂 ).

  • I can’t find that thing! I checked TRU over the weekend and they didn’t have it!

  • bravo1616 says:

Found the Bling Bling McQueen Chase at lunch today, he’s lenticular.

  • 5oclockshadow says:

15 chase cars this year? that seems a little ambitious….. maybe they will start coming two per case like Saluting Sarge / Ferrari …

(MET: There are generally around 17 cases released per year so inline …).

    • Steve AKA: Poppa says:

I found a stand alone display at the Lakewood, WA Fred Meyer store with four #117 Hydraulic Ramone’s this morning. There was actually more chase cars than some regular Cars? Go figure!

  • Saïx_Kingdom_Hearts says:

Wow so many cars! How do you keep track?

  • bravo1616 says:

We found the Hydraulic Ramone Chase over the weekend, I guess that’s the last of the non-lenticular chase Cars — bummer.

Now to find the new Final Lap cars which sometimes seem like chase cars too.

  • babychristianscars says:

Haven’t found the dragon car with the guide yet but got dragon mcqueen last week.

  • lou says:

no one thinks it’s odd that the 2010 Collector Guide lists lenties, BUT the actual car (Dragon McQueen) that comes with the guide is NOT lenty? come on Mattel, you tried the lenties, they don’t work, no one likes them. admit your mistake, cut your losses and return to your true bread and butter. look at the Final Laps, even old releases, like King, Doc, McQueens are gone w/in days. people don’t like the lenties, plain and simple, so why do you continue to force them down people’s throats?? why, why, why?!

  • Bob Eckel/TheeNaughty Knight says:

  • Jeaks says:

PS have sent you photos Met

    • jestrjef says:

(CLOSES EYES) . . . Please be more FINAL LAP …. Please be more Final Lap …. Please be more Final Lap …..

    • BMW says:

      Good for you guys!

What is the hold up on Dragon Mcqueen with guide? TRU says its not in the system, gave them the upc from a Dragon found in Singapore, and it matches last year’s Night Vision Mc with guide. So, Mattel is repeating the UPC on the new Dragon Mcqueen and if so then maybe the stores are not ordering?. TRU says discontinued item. Of course, since its the 2009 booklet/car.
But no new 2010 guide and car. Anyone have one in the USA that can check the UPC?

Has anyone found it on the shelves in the USA?

      (MET:

      2010 UPC: 0-27084-80541-3
      2009 UPC: 0-27084-68000-3

Of course, the chain may have simply carried overlast year’s UPC as a mistake – just as Target might decide to repeat the DPCI number … but as noted in the review post, I suspect that because of extenuating circumstances – retailers have not ordered it but hopefully they will do so but might be until Spring-Post Easter reset … meanwhile, online retailers have it (I believe it’s still in stock at PitStop & CTC).

      • jestrjef says:

I know one person that found them in a small mom and pop toy shop. I also had another person tell me they found them in a Walmart. I have yet to see any ANYWHERE ….. 🙁

      • BMW says:

Thank you Met. That is the exact UPC code I have for the 2010 Guide.
And it is not in the TRU system. They are using the old UPC and still have the old guide in stock on line. The TRU guy checked 5 neighboring states.

  • John in Missouri says:

    This really looks cool!
