Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Lenticular 3-Packs For Reals

A few months, we suspected that lenticulars would be available in 3-packs as photos surfaced of CARS that were listed as 3-pack offerings or like Chick Phase Mia & Chick Phase Tia that seem unlikely to appear on single cards AND since Movie Moments are a Target-only offering … AND it would have been odd for all other retailers to be selling only lenticular singles on cards but 3-packs were only available as non-lenticulars so … it seemed logical on several levels and now, we have definite word … well, maybe not definite word but a list …

First, the returning favorites …

3-Packs 2009 Return

No, the 3-packs packaging is not changing size, I only expanded them to squeeze in more info …

Mater Pitty WM

Chick-Finish WM'

Dex Hoover Checker WM

Mia Chick WMTia Chick WM

And some new 3-packs … most are actually pretty interesting and in some essence, the new “Movie Moments” as the configs are clearly inspired by a scene from the film, CARS …

3-Packs 2009 New

(non-lenticular photos).

Waitress Flo WNM

Matti B

Bert WM

Wet LM

Pit Crew WM

From (non-lenticular) CASE F, people have spotted the Charlie Checker, LM & King box but I do not believe anyone has spotted Checkered Flag Dexter Hoover so I believe this case was re-configured AND the 3-pack is NO longer listed anymore.

3-pack-case-f1

Dexter Checkered WM

Though Checkered Flag Dexter Hoover is on the Target-only FINAL LAP list … so he is scheduled as a single.

However, while there’s no official word, it does look like that CASE G & CASE H are non existent anymore. The Antonio, Dexter Hoover & Pit Crew Saege 3-packs are NO LONGER listed as a (non-lenticular) 3-pack but as seen above in the new lenticular list, they are coming as lenticular 3-packs.

3-Pack CASE G1

3-Pack CASE H1

Antonio & Costanza are also on the FINAL LAP list but oddly, most all the photos seem to be the lenticular versions …

Costanza WMCostanzo2 WM

Pit Crew Member Sarge is also listed as a FINAL LAP car and might even be out as part of the next release.

pit-crew-sarge

Bottom line – Lenticular 3-packs are coming – beyond that, who knows – will regular 3-packs continue at Target only? Maybe but it might be like Movie Moments, only “re-releases.” Since, all the 3-packs CARS that were scheduled to be released are pretty much all listed as singles in the Final Lap collection, it won’t matter very much other than packaging …

So, it does seem CASE F (revised) is/was the last 3-pack as we know it.

When will lenticular 3-packs arrive? Pre-Christmas (probably) – what’s the case assortment?

????

But you can probably bet the ones they have photos of are probably on a ship headed towards us?

But hey, collect them all.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! STOP THESE. At first, they didn’t go so well, but now, lenticular is the way to go. The only lenticular I bought was green flag Dexter just for the flag! Poor Todd. Looks like his pizza delivery got slowed due to lenticulars. He’s my favorite car. Please Mattel STOP THESE! Looks like one of the biggest comeback lines EVER!

  • 5oclockshadow says:

    translator broken?

  • CT says:

Does this mean that these Cars will NOT be released in a non-lenticular version?

If that’s the case, I might have to stop collecting!

  • Carazy says:

Be consistent. Don’t buy lenticulars and 4packs with 3 repeats in them and launchers for every single car and try very hard(but might not be possible) to resist everything that comes with another LMQ. Maybe then we will get new assortments of damaged car 4packs and the like, but until we put our wallets down, expect more of the same. BTW I saw workers protesting outside a Mattel building about unfair labor practices. So they definitely are another greedy corporation who only cars about taking our money. TOO BAD I’M ALREADY ADDICTED TO THESE CARS. At least I can still show some restraint by waiting for the cars individually. Sorry for thr rant.:)

  • NO Lenticulars says:

Okay here’s the deal Mattel. My daughter still has some cars she wants with the original eyes that are very difficult to find; Van, Traffic, Milton Calypeer, etc.

That is what motivates us to continue the hunt. Go lenticular before original eyes and you will loose those that have been here from the start.

I know what you’re thinking, throw goofy eyes at them in a new release and they’ll bite. No, actually we will not. We are not about to start this entire collection over again.

If we were to go nuts and do such a thing I’m positive our money would be going to the Disney Store for the new larger scale diecast. In fact, I sure wish they had come out first because I’m a little upset so much of our money has gone to a company who apparently has lost sight of those who have made this line so successful.

  • swb says:

hate hate hate the eyes cars.

but on another note i think target will be the place to be for a while . probably a whole aisle dedicated to CARS

  • Cman says:

I am new into cars since my son just got into it, and we like the lenticulars because we can actually find them in the stores. For people like us Mattel had to either restock the old cars, or come out with a slightly different car. So I don’t see what the big deal is, just don’t buy them if you don’t want them. Newbies will buy them, and maybe that is the target of Mattel to continue to support the movie for the next generation of kids, plus they figured that probably some of you “complete” collectors would buy them anyway which is a bonus. If they released the exact same ones then there is not much chance that you would. From a business standpoint seems like a good move for Mattel, and from a collecting standpoint seems to me that the non-lenticulars that you can’t find become more valuable to the collectors/ebay resellers.

That said, I have some issues with the volume of LM in the cases, as well as the duplicates with these new 3 packs.

Oh, and my son and nephews like the lenticulars better and I would bet most kids would be drawn to them over the old style if they had a choice.

    • Mike says:

“Oh, and my son and nephews like the lenticulars better and I would bet most kids would be drawn to them over the old style if they had a choice.”

Ah yes, the old ‘repackage Malibu Stacy with a ‘new hat’ trick.’

    • Hostile Takeover Banker says:

yep, it is a total scam by Mattel. If you are looking at this from a money making/getting collectors hooked it is an excellent idea. Even the loads of McQueens in a box. We have complained about this before and it won’t change. Think about it; what is the first car you are going to buy to start the collection? McQueen. So who better to have lots of on the shelf. He would have to be every little kids first choice, if not second. Then once you have one car you need a few friends and that is when the ‘fun’ starts.

Things won’t change. Mattel won’t listen. This latest lenticular idea is just another scam imho. Mattel will never complete the series. That is right. Look at StarWars merchandise. Has anyone completed that series yet? I don’t think so, not when there is new ways to package old merchandise each month. Look at the differing packaging and re-packaging designs this Cars has had already. By changing to lenticulars and then bringing out new unreleased cars Mattel knows that collectors will be now trying to collect both sets, especially the completists. You watch the ebayliens now start pushing prices up (they aren’t dumb either).

So we can all sit here and complain but do we ever think Mattel is just going to give us what we want on a plate straight away? They realised with MSOS that was a bad move, and it is easier to drip feed products. There will never be the full list of racers available (at least without apple), ditto the pitties and haulers. Look at the various 3 pack configurations and they just keep re-releasing the same ones over and over (leakless in a new 3 pack box anyone again? never mind a Tach-o-mint 3 pack, that would be giving the consumers what they want.) As for the lenticulars, my suggestion is Mattel will stay with this line for a while, say up until Cars 2 release, and then change the whole darn thing again, not to annoy people, simply to keep interest going and sales high.

Sorry my 2 cents is more like 2 dollars every time.

  • AlbertHinkey says:

    BOYCOTT!!!!

Can someone please get a message to Mattel that their target market is rejecting these cars?

  • Mariela says:

    Ay caramba!!!

  • babychristianscars says:

Crazy, esp. since some bought the single lenticulars and now will have to get doubles to get the ones not going to be singles. Ugggh.

Than to do new releases only lenticular weird weird weird.

  • SweetBug says:

    Met, can you clarify:

Marco, Richard Clayton SUV, and Fred? Should it be Mario Andretti, Marco Axelbender and Fred, or Marco Axelbender, Richard Clayton SUV and Fred?

(MET: Yea, it might make more sense if it’s Marco Axelbender – it just said Marco but Marci the cop certainly makes much more sense than Marco the jet, I’ll fix).

  • I-LUV-RACE-CARS says:

I can’t believe they finally made some new cars I have been waiting for, and they are LENTICULAR!!!!! AAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGHH!!!!!! I WILL NOT BE GETTING THEM UNLESS THEY COME IN THE ORIGINAL SETS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • iamspeed says:

Forgive me, but I can’t resist:

    “The EYES have it!”

  • Hostile Takeover Banker says:

I could really rant on here but suffice to say I have been expecting this. Mattel has been screwing things up for a while, it won’t be the first or the last time. I’m not holding any promise here for ever ‘finishing’ the set.

  • Daniel says:

I have read reports on Carsthetoys several weeks ago that case F 3-packs have already arrived.

It didn’t contain RD King / Dexter / MQ

  • jmularczyk says:

Great move Matty, release a new car first as a lenticular and see if we all jump at it just because we don’t have it. I’m sure a lot of that will be going on – not for me. To date I’ve only bought Sarge as a lenticular just because it had been so long since I had seen him. I still think overall it’s a good idea to have the lenticulars to pull in new collectors and so that kids can actually find some of the townies, which I would imagine are the ones that the little ones new to Cars want. Overall, we can continue to complain about the lenticulars but I don’t think they are going away.

  • 5oclockshadow says:

Bert’s eye looks infected….. he might wanna get that checked out…..

nice sets …. but lenticular nonsense will keep me away also…at least they are helping me save money…..

would be nice if they just included a ‘lenticular eyes sticker’ with each release, then you can choose which eyes you really want….

  • cac1959 says:

My thoughts are a lot like most of yours… I prefer the classic eyes… I might purchase lenticular singles for a US TRU promo (not that we’re going to see one)… I might purchase lenticular versions of:

    Waitress Flo/Mia/Tia
    Marco/RC SUV/Fred
    Antonio/Constanza/Ferrari
    Matti/Bert/Cruisin McQueen

and that’s it… no lenticular 3 pack case purchases for me…

I’d like a Pit Crew Sarge and a Wet McQueen… but won’t buy a 3 pack just to get one new Car…

  • bentaxle says:

Just what everybody needs: lenticular Dinoco Mia Tia w/DLM over a Ferrari 3 pack that can see straight. My nearby Target has 10 count em 10
DMT MM’s that are probably holding up orders of the new ROR MM.
Gonna have to figure out how to make upgrade winshield replacement kits and become a bizzilionaire.
Call me anti-lenticulrite but how can Mattel let these steal the show. Final Lap might fill the gap, but Targets got me nervous about keeping a steady pace with new cases and quantities. Oh yeah they’ll have four packs of Cars most of us have already. Where does Mattel get their market/customer info from? I’m usually pretty calm about these kind of announcements. But this is STUPID and RIDICULOUS. The 3 packs were just getting ready to go to the next level of greatness, now they will be like finding money in a toilet. Youd like to have it but leave it for someone else. I’m gonna go open my new Rollin Bowling Mater now and feel better.

  • Daniel says:

    What garbage. Die Lenticulars Die!

  • flarf says:

Has there been any official word on the longevity of the lenticular releases? They really don’t seem to be popular, and if people aren’t buying, Mattel HAS to pay attention to that!!

  • John in Missouri says:

Collect them all!! (if you’re a member of Trash Collectors Local #659)

  • Nascarfan says:

If anyone has seen the non lenticular 3 packs let me know. thanks

  • BMW says:

No, not buying lenticular three packs. Forget it.
I will wait patiently for them to come out as Final Lap singles.
Something’s amiss here. Classic Cars first! Googly eyed cars were NOT in the movie. Not canon.

  • Nascarfan says:

pitcrew sarge picture is not showing up

  • LUCA says:

WHY LENTICULARS??? I don’t like them!!! THEY ARE SIMPLY UGLY!!

  • Mr. T says:

    Seriously…….FINISH THE FIRST LINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Unimog says:

Looks like a great opportunity for customizers to de-lenticulate some of the newest releases!

  • PirateDad says:

PLEASE ….NO ONE BUY THESE THINGS AND THEY SILL STOP MAKING THEM!!!!!!!!

    • Ace Diamondrunner says:

You can put crazy eyes on a never-before released car, and I still won’t buy it. My kids don’t play with the lenticulars at all.

      • Mike says:

What if we stop buying them, but instead of killing off the googly-eyes, they kill off the entire line.

I’ve seen it happen with other toy lines where they overload the shelves, and when there’s little retail love, it’s curtains.

At this rate, finalizing the collection will end once I have all SOTS racers.

Btw, has anyone thought of a petition to Mattel to protest these things? Hate to sound like a nut seeing how everyone is protesting something these days (I think my city has one protest every week about something or other). I’d be willing to contribute my Photoshop skills to a banner for the petition.

I’d almost like to include photographic information to show what shelves look like, since it seems Mattel does not seem to think twice about glutting the market with Lenticular McQueen.

  • jestrjef says:

what a mess Mattel has made here . . . I thought that the LAW stated CLASSIC LINE FIRST . . . GOOGLY EYED SECOND . . . what do the sales figures look like for the GOOGLY Eye’s . . . my stores have been OVERLOADED with them for 2 months now . . . WHY . . . WHY . . . .WHY . . . .I am going to go to my room and cry now . . . .love these new releases . . .but WHY GOOGLY EYES . . . .wwwhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

    • Samuel says:

My sentiments exactly Jeff – great new 3 pack assortments but why do they have to be lenticular? Still think they are gimmicky and detract from one of the best features of this diecast line.

    • lou says:

what’s the deal? are these really going googly eyes before mainline release. nice Mattel, just another middle finger to its most loyal customers.

  • Roswell says:

wow, some of those lenticular 3 packs look interesting,
would much MUCH prefer if they were released in the regular good cars line,

    would definatly buy:
    Waitress Flo+Mia+tia,
    Marco+RC SUV+Fred,
    Antonio+Constanza+Farrari,

not too keen on MQ being in anymore 3 packs,
maybe Matti, Bert + another reporter or something would be much better!
