Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Lenticular CASE D

While CASE C has not shipped other than to Walmart, it will eventually ship to all retailers – so CASE D is another trundle of weeks away …

  • babychristianscars says:

I have yet to find a stupid plastic Mcqueen LOL.

  • JustWondering says:

    WHich is the VARIANT?

2-piece nose McQueen or all metal nose McQueen?

Also, which Wal-Mart exclusive VARIANT card is more rare?

The exclusive (x8) with “NEW” logo on card or without?

  • jestrjef says:

Hey Met, is the MATER in Case D the “BRAND NEW MATER?” I noticed him on your check list, but I have not seen him in any of the case assortments and I have not seen him on the peg yet. Thanks for all the checklists . . . they rock!

(MET: I may have jumped the gun, in CASE D – it is just listed as Mater – of course, that may not necessarily be accurate).

Hey everyone, I went to one of our Kmart–where they have been doing a toy reset which seems to me is taking a long time–but any who, I noticed some of the new set pegs which have Car Toon single spots and pegs for Car Toon mega cars. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!they are coming, but when, I do not know. TRU in Westminster, CO. They had the Lightyear launchers–Lil’Torque and Bumper Save. The Lighning Mc launcher had his name plate on the box, get this–upside down-think maybe, or I don’t know–variant. Nascarnbroncosfan – where are you? What state–I probally missed something here.

    • babychristianscars says:

In our walmart in CO they have spots for a megasize car $1, and a spot for a $5 car but what they are I do not know.

There are 8 pegs for lenticulars/reg cars 3.97, 4 pegs for minis 6.84, 4 pegs for those $1 car.

On the top shelf 3 packs and they had a bunch today, lightyear launchers and regular launchers all these are 9.97

Next shelf the $5 car thing and an empty spot.

Last shelf the speedway set for 22.84 and another set for around $25 none in though.

Target in the Tacoma area has been stocking the older ‘classic’ cases and they are moving fairly well. The Wal-Marts are stuffed with lenticular McQueens. The other lenticular castings were gone along time ago. It shows there is a market for the lenticulars, if only because that’s all that’s available. Unless the lenticulars bring on new castings, it will be mayhem in the morning at Target. Is that brief enough for your guys this time? 🙂

  • rpag says:

i actually like the new ones where the eyes change from side to side. A much needed improvement.

  • EM says:

I have often wondered how the lenticulars are selling relative to the classic line. It seems like the four local WMs are loaded with lenticular McQueens, but that could have been my disgruntled imagination. During today’s look-see on the way to work, I think I have more empirical evidence based on the reset schemes. Of the two local Targets, one went from 4 to 16 pegs and the other kept it at 20 pegs. The two WMs I saw today went from 16 to 8, and the other went from 20 to 12. Of course that had the result of making the pegs totally overstuffed with lenticular McQueens to the point that I am sure new cases will not be stocked until about Valentine’s Day.

I don’t like the lenticular cars, but would tolerate them until they start getting in the way of the classic line–by that I mean at least moving enough to bring out the classic chase once in a while. Now I am downright resentful.

    • Samuel says:

It’s almost an impossible assessment (lenticulars vs classics) especially the last couple of months since most stores have few if any of the classic singles hanging on the pegs and what they do have is usually considered “pegwarmers” by most our standards. Every other store is only receiving the lenticulars so the average customer has really no option to buy anything but that.

All I’m saying is that it’s making it difficult to collect and follow through with this line for many people when you have to be THAT strategic with your shopping. Say you want to replace any car that was fairly abundant last year (Edwin Cranks, Wingo, etc) and don’t want the lenticular version — you have few options other than ebay or our trading forum.

  • Samuel says:

I’m going to have to jump in agree with the masses here – while we’ve purchased some of the lenticulars, I just don’t think they are well received by the masses. Having been crazy about this line of toys for over 2 years my gut feeling is that lenticular cars actually distract from the primary design feature that make Cars cars so special. Yes they are beautiful diecast sculpts (Thank you Martin) and the attention to detail is often stunning, but the use of eyes on the windshield and the expression they give each car is what always separates them from any other diecast toy!

Add to the fact the lenticulars cost more and the case assortments have been atrocious with way too many Mcqueens and Target having an exclusive market for the “classic” mainline singles (at a 30-40% price increase now), it sure doesn’t make it easy or enticing to get new collectors on board.

    • Aaron & Jeanne Scriven says:

i agree! 😀 haha even though im picking up 1 of each lol i WOULDNT be upset if they disappeared 😀 of the lenticulars that is

    • TarheelBill says:

WELL SAID! WM had the exclusive on the Lenticular for 1 Case…the question now is for how long does TGT keep the exclusive for the “Classic” line when this Lenticular thing flops for WM??? Because 1 Chase Car,that people will actually but, to a case will not sustain this line.

  • TarheelBill says:

Several of our local WMs have already put in a swap out request with the regional Mattel Rep. It worked with the Blimps…hopefully it will work with the Lenticular McQs. 😉

  • CaptainChunk says:

Yay, more McQueens to sit on the pegs untouched.

  • tuatara1 says:

I’m afraid Mattel is drowning the pegs with lenticular McQueens…a sure way to kill off the line is to have stores full of dozens of one car and practically nothing else. (The price increase doesn’t help either.) I’ve seen kids and parents many times look at the selection and say some variation of “oh, all they have is Lightning again.” No good. (There are also a ridiculous number of Night Vision McQueens still out there. They really should think about clearancing them out.)

    • iamspeed says:

I’ve seen more kids pick Lightning out of multiple pegs with many others to choose from…..let’s face it, for kids it’s Lightning that’s most popular overall. Mater or Lightning, kids will take them if they’re on the pegs.

  • collectormom says:

Not only can I never find the Chase Cars all I ever see is full peg after full peg of LMQ!

    • Ace Diamondrunner says:

      Ditto!!!

Just went to TTY and they were doing a Store-wide reset. They had about 20 mattel boxes waiting to be opened in the cars aisle. “SCORE,” I thought, but after opening them all, not one box of lenticulars was there. Just pegs and pegs of lmq. Ugh!

  • Mara says:

I won’t buy them either. I just buy the chase cars/totally new cars from each package. All of which I have found in stores so far. THey haven’t been as hard to find as the first couple of chase cars.

  • Matt says:

I have said this a million times. The only way to get rid of these atrocities is to boycot them entirely. I will not buy one of these lenticular car wannabe’s. Seriously folks. How many McQueens do you need out of the first 4 boxes. There are 8……8 McQueens in this box, not to mention the rest that are mostly doubles, besides the fact that these have previously been released. Time for the final lap, and then the pits…..

    • GotFrank says:

I was gonna post something, but you got it wrapped up pretty much.

    • Blake from MN says:

I have everyone out except this case! They rock and I will continue to buy them as long as they are out!

    • Aaron & Jeanne Scriven says:

I’m not buying any doubles just 1 of each for fun… not even one to keep 1 to open… I don’t love these or anything.. but it’s fun finding at least SOMETHING new since Target cant seem to get their act together.. yah the final laps are coming eventually and YES im VERY excited about them!!! LOL but these are just like a ‘fix’ hahaha some people like them most dont.. lol i dont care either way its just fun 🙂

    • Eric says:

Boycotting toy purchases…. Hmmm, don’t think we realistically have nearly enough participants on this site to make a dent. 🙂

I see your argument, and it is hard to argue with a guy who has one of the coolest Gravatars ever! … but they have more money wrapped up in production of these goofy eyed cars than we realize, and we know there are certainly some egos associated with Matty toys. I think they would keep making them even if they didn’t sell a unit.

I am with you on the Final Lap stuff, I just wish it went to a different retailer, or that Target at least made an effort to start getting the stuff out. Clearly they are going to sell like hot cakes… I don’t know what everyone else’s Targets look like, but ours are ALL flush with toys except in the Cars aisle. I wouldn’t be lying to you if I told you that there are literally 20 or so pegs set aside for singles, and less than 1 car on each peg right now. As someone who has no interest in the plastic car playsets (aside from Mater the Greater), and no interest in minis, this reset has been very disappointing to date.

As for how many McQueens we are seeing in a case, I think case A was ridiculous (11 of them with only 2 variations). I think this case is much more tolerable (8 with 3 variations – 2 of which are new). That is assuming that all of the previous case release McQueens had sold out, which we know will not be the case. You can look for McQueen peg warmers to be prevolent until Cars 2 releases in 2011. 🙂 Clearly he is the face of the franchise, but they could have been a little smarter with the first 2 case mixes and avoided the stalling situation we are in now because of how many McQueens from those cases are still sitting. Longest post ever? Maybe… 🙂

    • babychristianscars says:

They are different so of course I had to buy. I still prefer the normal cars, but as fast as these are coming out kids that don’t care can catch up and have almost all the cars with moving eyes faster than it took all of us to get the normal ones.

  • Michael says:

I just can’t get into starting my collection all over for a minor change. I will just stay with the orginals.

  • Aaron & Jeanne Scriven says:

lol of course i said i wasnt going to do all of these… but with only a few new ones in each case im thinking we might be in for 1 of each for the long haul LOL better than deciding later and trying to go back LOL

    • MiaSenorita says:

I kind of agree with you Jeanne 🙂 Problem is, when I can’t find anything else new at the store.. I end up buying one or two of these so I feel like I found something ! So I am half @$$ collecting them…. Havent’ taken any out of the packages yet, but I bet they are cuter out.

Does TRU carry Lenticulars? Just curious

  • 5oclockshadow says:
