Disney Pixar Films: Opening Shorts Studio in Vancouver (Canada)

Want to live in one of the great cities of North America?

Work for some company named Pixar?

pixar-20th

AND they will even pay you? πŸ™‚

“The company uses short films as springboards for its feature animations, and that will be the role of the Vancouver studio. A Pixar short takes six to 12 months to produce, and the production team can range anywhere from 20 to 75 people.

β€œFirst and foremost for us is to concentrate on Pixar legacy characters,” said Nasrabadi, citing Woody and Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story, and Lightning McQueen and Mater from Cars as four of its legacy characters. β€œWe want to keep these well-known and well-liked characters alive without creating a distraction to those working on the full-length motion pictures in California.”

It might be too early for job postings but check here

Full story from Vancouver Sun.

Thanks for the head up, “BMW.”

Maybe now there will be more CARS diecast in Canada?

And one of your first projects?

There are more Mater Tall Tales coming next year.

Four words … Monster Truck Wrassling … (and a second short) UFO’s … πŸ™‚

    i wish i was canadian….. Go CANADA!

Why do you wish you were Canadian? The US is cool too, and you have a better cars selection πŸ™‚
P.S. I am Canadian and Canada does Rock!

      • FuturePixarGoddess says:

actually its nothing against the US I just have a dream to work for Pixar one day so I was trying to be ironic LOL I would love to see Canada let alone live there Im on the gulf of Mexico in Texas, I got a beach but I would prefer how beautiful I imagine Canada to be

  • Sad American says:

“The studio will hire 75 to 100 people, most of them Canadians” – this is because Canada requires a majority of Canadian hires for Pixar to get the boffo tax credit.

Say what you want about the product they put out, but Disney operates cheaply and this is another example. Are a couple hundred American jobs REALLY going to break their bank? NO.

There are plenty of cities in America that would’ve loved to have had an opportunity to become your next mouse house. Thanks for believing in America, Disney.

Does somehow creating jobs with your largest trading partner, and military supporter bother you? Without Canada, the US wood not be able to build houses or factories…we are the largest supplier of natural resources in the world…. seems to me that deserves a little love!

      • Sad American says:

You miss the point…it’s not about Canada. They could’ve set up shop in New Zealand and my reaction would be similar. I would really love to see the cost savings on Disney’s balance sheet for 75-100 Canadian artists (many of whom will be interns and low-paid residents), versus the same number of American artists (again, interns and low-paid residents).

Rest easy, PD. No one is bad-mouthing your country. Ironic, though, that the toys based on the cartoons made there will continue to be hard to find.

        • Sad American says:

…hard for you (and your fellow Canadians) to find, that is.

…. what??? what is a Disney Cars??? ..

BTW FOR all of my Canadian Friends.. Seems like Mattel finally shipped 3 packs with Pitty, Bruiser and Mater to WM , at least in Ontario!

We should all call Mattel and asked them what happen .. this most be an error! …

Still no sign of NEW SINGLE ! .. 3 and half months and this will be 1 YEAR WITHOUT any new single!

  • PirateDad says:

Is Monster Truck Wrasslin a euphamism??

Of course, I think a Pirate Themed Cars Short is in order!!

  • 5oclockshadow says:

I was guessing a James Bond type Mater Tales would be next, but Monster Truck wrasslin will be interesting.

I made an outline for a ‘Mirror, Mirror’ type short too. Maybe I’ll send it in if I ever finish. I think a ‘bad’ Radiator Springs would be pretty cool.

  • BMW says:

Vancouver anyone? Glad to have uncovered the story. Sounds like a great job in a great city for talented people.

  • Sabrina says:

Well I guess I’m going to have to apply again
