Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: My Name is Indigo Blu Ray McQueen … You Killed My Reputation & I …

Everytime I try to walk, you pull me back in …

Everytime I think I am done writing about Blu Ray McQueen, I get pulled in the black-purple gaping maw that is the Sarlacc of CARS … (aka: The Great Pit of CARStoon 🙂  ).

Without going over everything again – read this POST FIRST.

It was the first mail-away promotion for CARS. Buy the Blu Ray DVD (November 2007 to January 2008). Sign up for Disney Rewards Club. Enter Code on Sheet in DVD (one per DVD). Mail in @$3.79. Get “free” Blu Ray McQueen (or officially called “Blu Lightning McQueen) and yes, he was more purplish.

So, to set the record straight.

SEALED – he came in a manilla-colored padded envelope – @5″ x 9 7/8” with a Disney redemption return address (thanks for the exact measurement, John in MO).

Inside, he simply came with a UNSEALED baggie that was open-ended. However, the baggie was clearly marked with several bits of info indicating it was from Disney/Pixar …

The bag from the US Blu Ray promotions looks like this.

And he should have a production date stamped at the bottom of 2427. I do not believe there are any other production dates unless someone has actual proof to add to this.

Also note that it is the same size without this plastic block and the direction matches this one.

This is mine and I can swear to you that I received it straight from Disney fulfillment.

Now, at one point, there was thought be a second batch created for an Italian giveaway but the reality is someone nixed it in mid stream and Faux Wheel Drive was substituted.

So, the announced original production run of 15,000 stands and is the final OFFICIAL count for Blu Lightning McQueen. No others are considered official – certainly not any with a production date ending in “8.” Of course, this was a period where for @7 months in 2008, there were ‘unauthorized” factory CARS being made – production without any quality control, of course so quality will vary …

If you have the time or interest, you can read the long & winding Red Ransburg post HERE.

So, for complete clarity, here are some high res shots of my Blu Lightning McQueen for you to match, contrast, compare and CSI study …

I’m worth how much?

It’s a great CAR (of course) and definitely one of the rarest CARS – especially in terms of production though twice as many as SDCC Lightning McQueen.

So, SEALED means in comes in Disney manilla envelope.

MINT means it comes with correct and official baggie (presuming you store it in the baggie).

AUTHENTIC means it comes with a production date code of 2427 EA.

So, these are the three checkmarks when buying or selling Blu Ray Lightning McQueen.

It’s up to you if you want a “reasonable facsimile,” but be aware that is what you are buying.

Happy collecting!

    J in M,

That’s too funny. However, if you guy’s could see what’s in my office and those who work for/with me you’d probably need Rescue Mater right quick……

My Design team and I are already designing product for Fall 2010, little ahead time. Hell, they already asked me what are we doing for NEXT years SDCC?

What is even funnier is how Mattel’s campus, which is pretty cool, pales in comparision to Pixar’s Campus. I’d give my NSX to be able to work there, maybe not. Coolest campus ever was Nike headquarters, mad Mattel look like a fruit stand 🙂

iamspeed is correct. I sent Met images of the new sculpt prototype yesterday. I’m gonna go back to the office Monday to shoot the back of him because the detail is crazy. I put a MCQ next to him so you could see the scale difference. I think I’ll put an Elvis next to him as well so you can check out the greatness. Maybe I’ll also put in a tiny camera guy taking a shot.

Was in a hurry @ the end of day so my bad.

Seems Met is holding this one back for another post, no worries, after all it’s his website 🙂

I like to share new stuff when I can.

Does all that mean we are “NOT” suppose to take it “OUT OF THE LITTLE CLEAR BAG WITH ALL THE BLACK WORDS ON IT”?

  • BMW says:

OK, I missed the reason for this post, can someone fill in the details?

BTW, I got two from Disney Rewards and both came SEALED in the plastic baggie, which was inside the padded envelope.

(MET: Maybe I’m, thinking of the UK Vinyl Toupee which came in a folded bag … I can’t recall now …).

(MET EDIT: I do not want to get involved in the middle of this – my post is a neutral informational post from an uninvolved third party. All I can tell you is what I know and you can use that for good … or the other thing 🙂 … any personal transactions is outside my base of information and you can work it out offline. Thanks).

Just a note on the 1348EA date stamps and non-date stamp versions.

They are rarer then the Authorised Version.

As a collector that I am, as well as a seller for my “addiction”,
cars that come from the factory with the rivots in place, are as much of a collectors peice as any.

        The rarer the better.

This is not a challenge, just a collectors point of view.

When you say sealed, do you mean with a little piece of tape? That is all that was sealng mine!

  • BlakefromMN says:

I just want to say I totally called the new re scalled TJ!!

  • Monica says:

    Priceless!

I was too lame to get one of these originally, but bought one on ebay for $30 (which my kids then stole from the top of my Macand then chipped up, little heathens!) and one from CTC (now locked in my safe, no joke) both MINT and AUTHENTIC.

I am kind of glad they chipped up my first one, because now I can feel free to drool on it whever I want. The rans finishes seem to be a little more delicate (or at least chippable) than the regular finishes with the matte like Mater and Rusty and Dusty being the most durable.

Hey do I get points for spotting
    the Princess Bride allusion?

    INCONCEIVABLE!

Oh, I too rank among the unfortunate
    Blu-ray-less. We’re a pathetic pitiable
people who just need your extra Blu-ray
    McQueens. Really cheap! LOL
    🙂

  • hostile takeover banker says:

and to think some Aussie is destroying our idea of a ‘fair go’ by selling counterfeits of these over ebay… well that disgusts me. I don’t have a Blu-Ray (yet) but he looks fantastic in these pics.

  • iamspeed says:

A little off-topic, but I just read that TJ HUMMER is now a done deal as a future Mega Size!

  • MiaSenorita says:

Where was I when I could have gotten one of these for $3.79??? AHHH the agony

    I love Blu-Ray McQueen!
