Best Burger Ever!

To chow down on the “Best Burger Ever” you will need to get on down to Illinois near the border across from St. Louis to a town called Sauget but from what I read and hear it is well worth the trip.

The town of Sauget has a minor league baseball team in the Frontier league (one step below Single A – you gotta love that!) called the Gateway Grizzlies. The Grizzlies general manager, Tony Funderburg, is credited with the creation of the killer treat. He told ESPN.com that he got the idea after reading about Mulligan’s in Atlanta, which has a similar sandwich called the Luther Burger.

The burger itself consists of a thick and juicy burger topped with sharp cheddar cheese and two slices of bacon with the kicker being that the burger is then placed in between each side of a Krispy Kreme Original Glazed doughnut!

Consider the following stats with caution before digging in on one of these Krispy Kreme burgers:

*  1,000 calories

*10 grams of sugar

*45 grams of fat

Full Disclosure: I have not eaten one of these bad boys but I really, really want one.  Not to rest on their laurels, the Gateway Grizzlies park now offers a concoction that is titled“Baseball’s Best Slider” which utilizes a thin-sliced, steam-grilled, square-shaped burger topped with cheese and grilled onions that is then breaded and deep-fried.

Of course, considering what these things look like…I will pass.
