Mattel Disney Pixar CARS: 1St 2-Pack of 2022 Arrives! (DXV99-957L)

The first 2-pack of 2022 has arrived (and really, the 1st in nearly a year!) – DXV99-957L … some were listed in 2021 but never came out in the US …

It contains 2 new variant versions of Mater & Lightning McQueen, Mater with a real Tow hook (larger) and a “hookable/towable” Lightning.

Open pics coming Monday but there is a square notch under Lightning for Mater to tow-hook.

Maybe all forthcoming CARS 1 Lightning McQueen’s will have this notch??

You have always been able to tow hook for many CARS diecast (as long as they were the right size) with Mater’s hook but it’s always been very awkward. This resolves that issue. But strangely they are just called Lightning & Mater, no other designation.

For those collecting the eyelid variants, the first SINGLES release of CARS 1 Floyd Mulvihill (Gasprin) & Cristy Rotor (Vinyl Toupee).

The fist Eyelid version of Race Official Tom …

And a slight variant in addition the eyelid, the eye position but not a major upgrade. But this Lightning McQueen also has the underneath notch so if for reason, you want the LM with notch but not Mater with the giant hook, here’s your excuse.

Ramone & Flo are the Thai upgrade version (slight different eye position + eyelids from 2019/2020) so if you skipped the singles and decide you want them, you can grab them both together (just like it’s 2006). Always and forever.

Cruisin Lightning McQueen is a 2022 variant with the new more radial and radius whitewall stripping AND with new “shinier” Lightning’s, they seem to have switched from just a bright color to the new chrome process – I have not found my old Cruisin to compare but it’s seems likely it’s shiner chrome metallic also.

The last three 2-packs seem to e non variants and the same as the last release.

Collect ’em all.

None of the stores near me still sell doubles.

Is Lightning McQueen missing the cactus greenery from the scene in Cars when Doc knew that Lightning is not going to make the turn on dirt and instructs Mater to bring his ‘tow hook’. Then Doc exclaims “You drive like you fix roads, Lousy”
They will correct the oversight and we will buy it again. Hhhmm Dejavu?
Eh Met, we’ll ‘collect them all’.

Already have 2 sets of Cars Piston Cup Racers which took years to assemble from singles -(could not subscribe to purchase the Speeway of the South set, not being resident in/of USA). So I will pass on the eyeline variants.
It was hard enough completing the 36 race cars, with the 16 variant synthetic rubber tire(tyre, English spelling as we learned in school here in NZ). The only thing was they would not ‘race’ around the booster race tracks
Then purchasing the ‘after market’ (from you know where) plastic tyre/tire variants of the 16? rubber tyre/tire variants to complete one full set of plastic ‘wheel’ Piston Cup Racers. (had enough of the dual tyre spellig)
So you can ascertain my reluctance of not pursuing these eyelid-line Cars piston cup racers, really who needs three sets of the same?

I bought two sets of them as 1 Hero set and 1 for my son to crash and bang because I was repremanding about the ‘Tink’ of chipped paint, so to preserve both of our sanity, I bit down hard on the bullet and coughed up the pain of tracking two of each. It was difficult to get one of each!…
Marlon Brando in Apocolypse Now…’the horror, the horror’

And how big is the hole I have dug in my pocket to try to keep up with the diecasts so far, 1,900 odd did I read here the other day,
Not to mention all the two town sets released, two race tracks correction 6 race tracks in our possesion, the expanded universe of, plastic unique playsets, the big Oil Rig, Turbo Prop the Jet and Sidley the spy plane, Rodger the Space Shuttle, 6 Cars 2 Fan Stands, et all. Is it going to be never ending… And Planes!
Oh my gosh I’m in too deep to stop!
Addiction or Hobby? 15 years coming up 16 years of search and reseach. Never been so absorbed figurayively and financially.
But phew, still enjoying the collecting.
Ooops another book Met, or is this therapy? Ciaw!

(MET: Pretty impressive from the other side of the world where only a small % of what’s released makes it there – IMPRESSIVE! Good luck!)

I ran out of time editing my post above.
To clarify that 3 of the 6 race tracks we have are from Cars 3.
And we do not have all the Plastic playsets more only the sets with unique characters i.e. El Materdor, the Tokyo Dragon McQueen jump set with the Crane and pipes and as mentioned above the Jewel of them being the big Oil Rig (with key action plastic cars discarded to the file cabinet)
Just remembered…The shake n’go Cars 2 World Grand Prix race set and those cars filed, a Fisher Price Tokyo City set. The Destroyer…not the big Disney Store version.
Some Disney Store Cars and Planes diecasts, The Train both diecast and Plastic with carridge. The Plastic Mack Transporters…leave it there for now.
      Thankyou Met

I’m glad these first Case of 2packs and the first Singles Case are full of rereleases as I am enjoying the break of purchasing the latest releases.
I did buy Mathew ‘True Blue’ McCrew in the wild to help fill the small parks in the Cars 2 Fan Stands. And I told alie we have 7 Cars 2 Fan Stands. So I hope to find Darla Vanderderson.

Still a very boring release for me 🙁

Hard to tell in this two pack photo, but isn’t McQueen dirty as well — that is, dusty or muddy paint splotches?
