Mattel Disney Pixar CARS: NASCAR Series “Real Drivers” Preview

The new NASCAR Series of CARS (Walmart exclusive) looks pretty cool, there are a series of releases during the 2021 NASCAR season including a 5-pack. If you’re actually going to a race (fans possible?), send us a pic if they’re doing some live promotions!

They are using their NASCAR numbers versus their Piston Cup numbers.

Austin Dillon as “Carstin Ace Dillon.” (Sidewall Shine is #74 as a PC racer – this is his 1st appearance in the Next Gen look).

#9 Chase Elliott as “Chase Racelott.”  Vitoline is #61/#24 as a PC Racer … but his NASCAR #9 here.  It’s a different look from him as #24 Next Gen Vitoline.

William Byron as “William Byrev” #24 in NASCAR. Shifty Drug is #35 in PC Racing world and this is the first Next Gen look release.

As with all the paint schemes for racers in CARS, they look great and honestly better than a lot of the paint schemes in NASCAR these days. My thoughts on the good old days.

These are in the next wave, Wave 1 is out or hitting Walmart pegs soon …

Lightning’s NASCAR look.

Crew Chief Mater.

Pit Crew Luigi & Guido.

Thread necro. So I found a William Byrev / Shifty Drug and snagged it. After I opened it, I noticed two things, and then set about searching the internet. Problem 1: All the ones I have seen, the “Shifty” on the car’s right side is angled upwards towards the front, but it is dead level on the left side. 2: On the left side, the sponsor decals on the front quarter panel get progressively fuzzier as you go downwards, oops.

Nice! The number differences sure do make it confusing, but still cool diecasts!

Let’s see-so many on the spring poster coming out that I don’t have at all, this new NASCAR series that I find very appealing, others I have missed out on all while trying to be realistic about what I can collect and display, and often seeing NOTHING new on the pegs at Walmart and Target lately-GAHHH!!!!!!!!!!

I think I need to chill out.

(MET: WM exclusive distribution tends to be wildly uneven … so try and be patient. WM has them listed online (not in stock the other day) – some stores might offer free pickup also …).

  • Mack_me_Bucko says:

This adds a whole level of confusion, as Elliot’s real NASCAR number is not the Vitoline team number, nor is the Shifty Drug number the one used in Cars — and both Shifty Drug and Sidewall Shine are not even in Cars 3.

    • Real Gone says:

I was thinking something along those lines myself. I guess a person could look at them similarly to the Thomasville releases-I think a couple of them either didn’t have the right name or right number-but still a really cool release! Oh well, they might be hard to find anyway. 🙂

Do we KNOW that Sidewall Shine and Shifty Drug were not in CARS 3? All we often see of the racers is a multi-colored blur, so I think it’s possible they could’ve just been in the back and we did not see them nor have we gotten a diecast for them.

(MET: Yea, they are technically there … in theory, the blimp view might show them … of course, you might need a 12K TV to see them. 🙂 ).

      • Mack_me_Bucko says:

ISTR that 43 racers per race is the standard for NASCAR, so with the seven new teams introduced in Cars 3, seven old teams had to be dropped. Which only means they didn’t qualify, thus they could still have been on the field as non-qualifiers.

        • Mack_me_Bucko says:

Small update. In any given NASCAR race, 36 cars are the minimum number on the track, and 43 is the maximum. There are “Pay to Park” racers, and those who did not qualify, but we presently have 43 identified Cars 3 racers, thus the older names from Cars (1) just didn’t qualify for the new film’s races.
