I bought a Lionel O-scale tender online and it fits great! It was green and had rubber “logs” in the back but took the logs out and spray painted black….painted the edges with red and gold like in movie and used a decal sticker on side to say Piston Peak Railway, looks great! Bring on the passenger cars now!!! Thanks for those that helped me with what scale I should get!

  • Mack_me_Bucko says:

Ugh, those passenger cars are awful! Big boxes on wheels, and the wheels are too small as well. Additionally, the ‘trucks’ that hold the axles (bogies for you Europeans) are freight car trucks with roller bearings (they appear to be ‘Vulcan’ pattern AAR trucks). Some modern tourist railroads have cars this ugly, but Disney could have made them very nice looking in the film.

Especially jarring as Muir himself is patterned after a late 1850’s design.

My son’s head is going to explode when he gets this one!

do we know if this is a diecast train?

it looks like a lot of plastic in the pictures

(MET: Almst certainly all plastic as he’s more of “carrying case,” like cabbie the Transporter plane).

  • John says:

Maybe once we know the size/scale of the piece a suitable tender from the model train world can be found? Has anyone found a correct tender for the Disney Store Muir?

(MET: It looks like you can fit about 2 Max Schnell’s on the ramp so how many can fit inside?)

Thats a great idea John…wonder what scale he is?

      • Mack_me_Bucko says:

For the Mattel one, it might be out-of-scale a bit, but I’ll suggest the old Mantua/Tyco “Dixie Belle” tender, or as a smaller secondary choice, and MDC/Roundhouse “Old Timer” tender. Both should be readily available used.

        • 79nitroade30 says:

Are those both HO scale Mack?

          • Mack_me_Bucko says:

They are both HO scale. One could perhaps find an old American Flyer S scale tender, but you’d be paying collector prices. The HO ones you will find cheaper.

A third alternative may be one of the Bachmann On30 tenders from their 2-6-0 — those abound on eBay too.

(Once it is released I’ll be able to give a better suggestion that is easy to find)

Disappointed that there’s no tender. A steam locomotive consists of both units. Disney Store and now Mattel have only produced a “half Muir.” Whatever happened to the guy at Pixer who’s job was to review proposed products for conformance to the films?

  • 79nitroade30 says:

OMG super awesome!! Can’t wait! Would be cool to have the coal tender come out with another passenger car.

  • bobbyjack says:

I’m glad I waited for this version. Wish he had a coal tender though.
