Mattel Disney Pixar CARS 2 Diecast: More Wave 2 CARS …

Forgot a couple deluxe oversized …

Pinion Tanaka.

And Hot Rod Mater (unofficial name).

And not an oversized release – Damaged Rod Torque with Boot … sorry my photo is so crappy, I decided to make it look like a low res spy photo …

Basically it’s Damaged Rod Torque with additional burn marks …the silver marks along the front sides (and along the back) … plus the “tire boot.”

Or SEVERELY DAMAGED Rod with Boot if you want a clearer description.

The photo in the tiny booklet given away at SDCC just repeats the Damaged Rod CAR photo even though the description reads Damaged Rod Torque Redline with Boot.

Hot Rod Mater loose from China just sold for 161.50.

Any update on this release at retail?

(MET: No new assortments for oversized yet … but I guess now we should expect it in about 6-8 weeks …).

Can’t wait to find these. Keep ’em coming.

  • navernon says:

wish there was a clearer pic of rod with boot

  • Stig McQueen says:

Stig Jr. just asked me when Taco Truck Mater is coming out, ’cause that’s the one he wants!

There were pictures of Tokyo Mater w/ Oil Stains a long time ago on E-Bay. That Hot Rod Mater looks exactly like it, minus the huge wheels on the back. When this comes out, I wont be surprised if someone makes a custom *cough, cough- John in Missouri- cough cough* =)

    • quercy says:

Well the side exhaust pipes and the jacked up motor make this Mater Edition a real complete Hot Rod… Red and Yellow is a really good match and personally that is my preferred Mater version so far.

      • Jack says:

Hot Rod Mater is cute. It looks mighty plastic filled though. It’s nice looking but I wouldn’t say better than some other Maters like Reindeer Mater, Music Mater and a few others. It would be much better if there was more actual metal. The engine looks particulary cheap for one. I am guessing those pipes are probably plastic too. The move to more and more plastic takes away from the hobby for me. I would prefer more metal and heavier like the original cars were.

And even as recently as the Lenticulars! I picked up a Mater on Lenty 1.0 short card the other day, and it felt as heavy as lead compared to the Cars 2 version.

  • John says:

Hot Rod Mater looks like Mattel’s tribute to their mainstay Hot Wheels franchise.
The flames, the font and the red line tires are all signature Hot Wheels touches.

  • quercy says:

I want them all. I can’t pass on any of them…. I know later on I will regret if I put one aside. I always comeback on my decision and I must pay more to get them… The “Collect them all” is getting deeper and deeper in my mind…

  • babychristiancars says:

that is by far the best mater there is

    except of course the original

  • Bumper Save says:

    Pinion = yes
    Hot Rod Mater = no
Deathbed RTR = No! Long live RTR!

  • BMW says:

Tokyo Mater – Met, do you know if there any chance we will see the missing Kabuto with Flames from the toons line?

  • DDD says:

I do love “Dying Rod.” These three illustrate what I like more and less about this line…I like cars that are actually characters and are named in the films, and make an impression even if only for a moment or two (Fred is the perfect example of how a car can be on for just a few seconds but still warrant “character” status). That’s why I’m collecting Rod now but didn’t care much about him before the movie. But cars that were only on for a flash, and weren’t named in the film but somehow have names when the toys come out…not so much.

  • Stig McQueen says:

Gotta have Hot Rod Mater, and Pinion Tanaka to go with my Kingpin Nobunaga. Booted & Damaged RTR (“Now with more damage!”), not so much…

  • Lorri says:

Love Hot rod mater! right now my son has all the Mater’s lined up on a shelf and he calls it the Mater Museum. Ha!

  • oliversmom says:

I think that Finn ransburg=metallic will appear as “bonus gift” with Blu ray DVD release of CARS2 in November.

    (MET:Sooner 😛 ).

  • hostile takeover banker says:

I love the sumo but that has got to be one of the coolest versions of Mater so far!

  • Wraukn says:

There was a bluish ransberg looking Finn at SDCC. Any idea where he’s going to appear? And it looks like Reindeer Mater is coming back this Christmas, if what they showed at Comiccon means it’s going to be released.
