Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Target Soft Opening … Hard to Take

Well, at least at one Target soft opening … lots of stock, these are not the stock you are looking for …

The pegs are warm and cozy but as most CARS fans and collectors can immediately spot – NADA NEW.

Final Lap’s – Need a lot of Matti’s nad Marlon Clutches McKay?

Haulers – Sidewall Shine – Fresh outta the box!

And not even the latest lenticulars!

But it is nice and orderly …

So, in the next day or so, the non-official official March 6, 2011 Target openings will open its doors for the general public before its official GRAND OPENING so you can start buying during the soft opening-testing phase … fully stocked on Color Changers!

the new Thor action figures actually look like nice sculpts and the “deluxe” edition has a nice light up feature though worldwide price increases have made them OUCH at $12.99.

The non light up version is $7.99

Thanks for the nice pics “Night Ninja of Oaktown Domingo.” I see it pays to have a red polo shirt, khaki’s and black walking shoes. πŸ™‚

This looks like the list of store openings this Sunday …

Oakland-Emeryville, CA
Lakewood, CO
Woodbury, MN
Madison, WI
Newport, KY
Marlborough, MA

So, maybe you will have better luck at your Target opening.

My friend in Dallas found Padre, McQueen Signature CHASE and Yeti Snow Cones CHASE tonight. He is doing about a dozen of each big 3 (TRU, WM, TGT) every week and still no signs of the last Final Laps. However he has found Bye bye Kar at Kroger… Creepy!

  • Steve AKA: Poppa says:

Because I had business in King County, WA today, I made stops at several TGT’s, WM’s and TRU’s usually off the beaten tracks. The pegs were BARE!!! That picture is sure to be a hoax. It is impossible to find anything worth buying at Target, even if you’re a NEWBIE. My guess is Target cut back on ordering of the Final Lap cases. What has been shipped is probably it. Anybody seen any Bessies lately? Or the new haulers?

The only thing new around here is the two raccoons that moved into my 35 foot tall blue spruce tree and fight all day.

    • BMW says:

      @StevePoppa,
No haven’t seen a Bessie in ages. She was only found at the secondary stores in the Houston area. (Kohls, HEB Grocery). Never saw her at the 3 majors. the new haulers, chet, PV only found at secondary stores.
Have not seen the newest Ben or Oliver in any store. I got my Ben and Oliver through a trade. these so far were only available through on line resellers.
Target discontinued the lenticulars. Scans of the leftovers show the lenty line as discontinued.

The case K Final laps have yet to arrive here at any Target. Luckily I got 8 sets from family who found them 200 miles away in San Antonio. And only 2 Targets out of 9 in that city have received any cases. Several sets are going to another collector in my area who hasn’t found them either.
Target states that the Final Lap line is NCF-active. Meaning they will get a few more cases maybe and that is it. Thats my understanding.

      • Mariela says:

That’s what the guy with the scanner told me at Walmart today: discontinued; on the lenticulars and toons singles and mega sized..so what’s going on or what’s gonna happen here?

(MET: Lenticulars are definitely not continuing in 2011 and if they come back in 2012, they’ll have a different UPC … Toon singles and megasized might be dropped by that store, or might just be dropped by that store for the current planogram so it’s sometimes hard to say 100% what’s what because it might be true for that store in the short term only).

      • Steve AKA: Poppa says:

Only one Target in my area received a shipment of the last Final Lap case. I was able to get my set, but, I could not help somebody that I usually pick a set up for. I found the Bessie when she first came out at a TRU at Southcenter, Tukwila, WA. I did find today a Chase Mater with Hood with a bent Chase tag at Tacoma, WA TRU. Totally unexpected.

If TGT and WM are expecting no inventory, except for warehouse dregs, then it will be bleak for a couple of months.

Personally, I am not all enthused about the Cars 2 story line. I like Cars, the Original because of the romance between Sally and McQ with the old sage of Doc thrown in. It was typical boy meets girl. Cars 2 promo look like too many shoot-them up cartoons. Personal opinion.

  • Man-I-Fold says:

Final Laps were reduced to $4.39 tonight in Chicagoland. A store that had the newest case a few weeks ago restocked with the older case (Wrenchworths, etc…). Weird, unless it was a return.

    • Mariela says:

Lucky you it was that case (Marilyn)..after we got the newest (Coriander) we got the Matti case again!!! πŸ˜•

      • jestrjef says:

This has happened in Florida as well, except … we still have not SEEN the Coriander Case. I think this is the beginning of the end for the Target/Final Lap trip … they must be purging the warehouses … getting rid of old stock … pushing out whats left …. siggghhhhh πŸ™

    • Chris with tray says:

Same here, Mani-I. My two Targets that stocked Coriander (once) promptly went back to Wrenchworths with the next restock. Now all I’m seeing is a bunch of Valerie Veates on the pegs.

      • Man-I-Fold says:

Yeah, it probably was not a return at my store then. This particular store actually had gotten 2 separate cases of the newest prior to this Wrenchworths case, via 2 separate shipments. Hope we will be pleasantly surprised and see more of the new case and lots of a forthcoming case (all digits crossed)!

        • Sandy says:

Here in my area in NY, all 3 targets never receieved the wrenthworths case or the CORIANDER WIDETRACK case. I thought I would see these months ago, but nothing. Pegs are bare not even lentys are available. Only the 9 pack at $30. Thankfully I got these from trading. Thanks take 5 family.

  • NascarFan says:

Lets not forget the New Zealand Toy Drive that Man-I-Fold and I are doing.

Please pickup a pegwarmer for a child to use?

Contact me or Man-I-Fold for our addresses so we can put them in a box for New Zealand Toy Drive.

1 pegwarmer per person sent to either of us will help make a child smile who has no toys after the earthquake.

    thank you.

    • Man-I-Fold says:

Yes, please get in touch with me if you are in the central to eastern part of the US and would like to donate. We’ll be sending a box from Kevin in Utah, and a box from me in Chicago. Put T5AD in the subject line of your email and send to me (Mike) at mchlhff @ hotmail.com (Remove spaces) Looking forward to spreading some cheer!

      • Man-I-Fold says:

New, non-Cars toys are fine too. The Family Man-I-Fold is donating a Mack Hauler with a loose McQueen, and a Marvel Universe Captain America.

  • I went to the Target in Marlborough, MA this morning and found full pegs as pictured above. The difference here was that there were 24 units of the Milo wave. I asked an attendant to help me find the Hooman wave and he brought me out a case. I bought 2 sets; the third set was card damaged.
I also got the short packed Thor figs and DC Wave 16. Cool!
Chase cars was Mater w/ Hood.

  • jess says:

i used to collect star wars figures, and all was good. then it became popular again and i couldnt find anything, and i was frustrated. so then i foolishly moved on to hot wheels, which was fine for a while then i caught up and couldnt find anything, i was bummed. so i stopped for a few years, then i had a son and we discovered cars, and it is good. sometimes i go weeks even months without finding anything new but then ill hit the motherload. its all about patience and sticktoitvenessescencesss. some times it sucks but all of the time its better than hotwheels, because you can still find stuff sometimes, and its all about the chase.

  • raw says:

Got lucky at the Woodbury one and found the Mack, LMQ and Not Chuck pack. Otherwise, more of the same.

  • Monica says:

SO frustrating. As usual, I rearranged my Target’s Cars section again today. One Nurse Kori is all they had for toons. Tons of Color changers. Two Jamies and 2 Matty’s for Final Laps. 1 full peg of Vern and one full peg of Stu for lenty’s. That’s it. Pathetic. That’s all they have had for weeks, except I think they had a couple of Dinoco McQ lenty’s before, now even those are gone. How do empty pegs help anyone? Other stuff seems to get restocked like the Toy Story Diecast cars. Even Beyblades get restocked regularly. Cars? Weeks and weeks of nothing. Totally bums me out :(.

  • John in Missouri says:

I think this is also the only Target in the nation with Deluxe Toons.

  • Stig McQueen says:

Still newer than the crap that’s been warming the pegs at both of my local Targets since … forever. If it wasn’t for the Christmas box set and the overpriced 9-piece set, I don’t think they’ve had anything new since the HMM case arrived last fall.

  • Bombero1956 says:

I drove out to Ft. Riley Kansas last week for a family event and could only find one Target near the base. I wasn’t all that surprised to find that this store had the same old crap that the store 1,500 miles away had. I can’t really blame the store employees about this lack of new stuff. It’s like blaming Ronald McDonald for getting a bad burger, he doesn’t run the company.

    • John in Missouri says:

It’s always such the thrillkill when you walk into an unfamiliar store like that, expecting so much, but discovering so little.

  • SteveAKA: Poppa says:

Well, whoopie! Plenty of older stock! Cleaning out the storerooms? This morning I went shopping on line at the Hasbro site. I picked up the missing Marvel Universe action figures at $7.99 plus shipping of $6.98 spread over the number of units ordered. Prices are cheaper than several big box stores. Shipping right to the mail box. No gas expended to the oil companies! No time wasted! Maybe, if Mattel had an on line store with some credibility, retailers would respond to customers less they lose sales to the toy company’s own website.

HEY ALSO TODAY IS DR SEUSS’ BIRTHDAY! MARCH 2, 1904

Wife went to work today in her Dr Seuss Cat in the Hat headgear and her “One Fish, Two Fish, Three Fish, etc” in Spanish tee shirt.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR. SEUSS, AKA: THEO GEISEL

Yeah, Yeah, I know this is a Cars website!!

    • chuki says:

We will have to read an extra Dr Seuss book tonight!!! πŸ˜€

    • Man-I-Fold says:

I definitely would have signed up for a Final Lap direct subscription service had it existed. Maybe something like one new car per week, or a full set of new characters per month.

    • Lorri says:

If you are a fan of Dr. Seuss’s books, you’ll definitely want to check out the sale going on over at Walmart.com! Currently, they have over 150 Dr. Suess’s books available – discounted up to 45%! You can score hardcover books for as low as $3! Even sweeter, many of these titles offer FREE shipping!

  • cac1959 says:

Which is worse? Finding no stock, or finding lots of old stock (re: pegwarmers) that you and your friends don’t need which means you won’t find new stock for the longest time?

I wish we could order the Cars we want/need online… it would be so much easier.

I’ll be down near Cincinnati on Friday for work… maybe I’ll see if I can find the Newport (KY) store.
