Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Pit Crew Member Sarge Variant?

“CarzFANatic” wonders error or variant on Pit Crew Member Sarge …

The first release – no USA on Hood …

With USA and white stripes not yellow.

Consistent 2nd release change? Variant? Error?

Thanks for the nice pics, “”CarzFANatic.”

My target today had 4 PC Sarges with yellow stripes and no USA and one with white stripes and USA, here in NC

great… Love them lenties!!! Keep sayin’ it and it will come true…

  • christianscars says:

I’ve only found the lenticular and its yellow stripes with the usa .

  • BMW says:

I have 4 PCM Sarges All without USA and have yellow Sarge Stripes.
    date codes
    3139 EAB (2 of these)
    2959 EAB (2 of these)

Lenticular Sarge has the USA. So this final lap one seems to be an error.

What is even more strange, and no one has mentioned this before, is that if you look at PCM Sarge from the front straight on you can see a third eye. All four of mine are like this. The third eye is behind the bar separating the windshield. This is in the blister. Anyone see this on an open one, or is this some kind of illusion?

(MET: My open one looks okay – no third eye).

  • CarzFANatic says:

If you go by the movie, the Sarge without USA on the hood with the yellow stripes is the correct version.

The PCM Sarge on this page is the one with USA on the hood…where did the pic come from?

  • Steve AKA: Poppa says:

Actually, by definition both are variants! The questions is which variant is ‘correct’ and which is ‘incorrect.’ It’s back to reviewing the film or stills from the film. I think Met did a piece on this awhile back.

  • Lorri says:

I have two that are both date 3029 and no usa. Looks like it was added later?

  • CarzFANatic says:

The date code for the one with USA on the hood is 3139EAB, the code for the one without is 3079EAB. So far, all lenticular Pit Crew Member Sarge’s I have seen have not had USA on their hoods.

    • Eric says:

So since we now have three confirmed production date runs of the PCM Sarge without “USA” on the hood, I would guess that the one WITH “USA” on the hood is the variant? Time to check the stash box and see if we have any. 🙂

  • kdthomas says:

I have the yellow stripes/non-patriotic version. Must look more closely next time.

  • I-am-speed says:

My 2nd release PCM Sarge is “number only”, no USA, darker stripes.

    Date code is 3599EAB

  • todd says:

why does Blue Mater have a ball like thing atop one rearview mirror?

    • GotFrank says:

It looks like a spot light (similar to those on the his tow rig).
But I just took a close look at the flash-back scene. And it’s
not canon, meaning there is nothing on his mirror in that scene.
My guess is someone with depth perception issues at Mattel saw
the light on the tow rig and thought it was part of the mirror..?

  • L8rM8r says:

I will have to check this out if I see any more of these in the wild. There was another case of these that I found a week or so ago, but didn’t look closely at Sarge.

Any idea if the lenticular versions are the same?
