Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Get Your Kmart ‘Paperwork’ Ready …

We still have several weeks before the pre-order and 6 weeks until the Kmart CARS Event Day so remember the Top Ten things to do to get ready:

10) Replace batteries in computer mouse.

09) Practice keeping liquids ten feet away from the keyboard.

08) Call credit card companies ahead of time to explain the pending $800 charge at somewhere else other than at Starbucks.

07) Checking TakeFiveADay.com at least 5 times a day (of course, that’s a common sense thing  🙂  ).

06) Position your car facing forward on June 11, 2010.

05) Check your car fluids but remember not to fluid your yourself too much. The Kmart bathroom’s are not near toys.

04) Put a big X on the family calendar for June 12, 2010.

03) Put in a backup plan in case it’s also iPhone 4G Release day also.

02) Buy a giant roll of tickets and practice drawing low numbers. Make mental note to not run in circles and do fist pumps at Kmart this year (unless you are 11-years or younger).

01) Sign up the Kmart Rewards Program.

It’s a free signup and you get at least 1% back – some items have larger reward points – so hey, if you buy enough CARS in June, maybe you’ll get some free CARS in October, the next Kmart Cars Event Day.

And what’s nice is if you also shop at Sears, the dollars-points are counted there also so you can also redeem them there …

When is the pre-order date and time? I know some that had pre-orders cancelled last year and never found out why. Hope they got that all worked out. 😉

  • carsmama says:

What time? Of course, I have to do swim class registration that morning.

    (MET: 11 AM)

  • scott says:

this is my bet for the case
    vitoline rubber tires
    dale jr rubber tires
    sparemint rubber tires
    transberry juice rubber tires
    gasprin rubber tires
    sputter stop rubber tires
    shiny wax rubber tires

this equals a great big dissappointment to all as i have come to expect!!

  • BigMOCats says:

I’m kinda wondering why anyone would even order a case??

  • BMW says:

    pun intended.

  • BMW says:

    Young Collectors
I know some young first time collectors who are totally excited about the 8 possible race cars with rubber tires hinted about that may be in the KMart 4 day cases. These young collectors love the Hot Wheels T hunts with rubber tires. Very cool was one comment emailed to me.

Gask – its – for this event? – no way – don’t even expect to see Gask its until the 1 year is up for the French promo. That ends in late August. So Kmart Collector Days 5 in October certainly could have a Gask-its in the mix. Well within the realm of possibility.

Lots of people who never got the Speedway Set, or were not collecting when the MSOTS are excited about getting a set of Rubber Tired Racers RMSOTS, if you will.

Thanks to Dev, Chris, Angela and all the KMart executives for their hard work and negotiations to continue these special events. They are fine folks and its a pleasure to know them through the keyboard. They have been wonderful in answering my questions, and taking the comments from all of you that I sent them from the last event, and having conferences to improve the way the events go on at each store.
I know that Dev spent hours on the phone in conference calls with store managers in order to clarify how the events should run.

That is a real executive taking car of business.

  • Monica says:

I also need to set my self several reminders to leave my house on time. Got there late for the last one 🙁

  • Jack says:

It’s just too bad that the early indications of case assortment are nothing to be excited about. Yes more Transberries are needed and Dale with angry eyes released for the first time outside of the SOTS set is nice but besides those this case appears to be a dud.
It looks like Gaskits and Tachomint are being held back until kmart day 5 and or 6.
The Cars besides the racers in the last last kmart day were awful as well. Just old cars rereleased as lenticulars. No truly new releases. I don’t expect that to change, as since the first final lap cars were released only Target and TRU exclusives have had fixed eyes.
What good is going to a collectors day that you can’t actually collect anything new? Synthetic rubber tires is not a big enough variation of an old car to make me feel I got something new. This day maybe allright for some newer collectors but for collectors who have already bought everything up to this point this Kmart day case doesn’t fit the bill of an event.
I guess it stands to reason that with another year to stretch out of the first movie they are saving the best Cars for last.
So this is just a let’s get these racers out of the way now kind of feel to me. Hopefully there will be a couple suprise releases to make it better. Otherwise let’s hope day 5 in the Fall finally gives us a Car or two we really need. Not just one with different eyes or tires.

    • Nascarfan says:

One of the rare few times I will have to disagree with you Jack.

I think any car released for the first time on rubber tires is a good thing. It shows consistency. Who knows until May 11th, press release what will be for sure.

ANY Kmart Day reminds me of the Willie Wonka song sung by Gene Wilder…

speculation is part of the fun…

“come with me and you’ll be in a world of pure imagination”….

How often do you get a Major Retailer, one on one with its buyers.? Not to mention one on one with a Collectors website and being a part of that website.

(hey Dev, wheres my golden ticket??) giggle

      • Jack says:

Oh that’s ok. I am glad you are looking foward to it. I hope a good time is had by many.
I will be attending the event with the kids myself. I will buy plenty. Mostly for overseas friends. I’ll pick up some Dales and Transberries (always been just about my favorite Car) but for me personally the case assortment itself might contain no new releases. Only tire and eye variations of old Cars.
Truly new releases do it for us. Whereas I do  hope they do finish the whole Speedway set in rubber tires, it  would be nice to get one of the biggies like Gaskits in this case or non lenticular new releases. Also Kmart day 1 and 2 had Cars like Edwin, Todd, Vitoline Pitty, Fred etc. That’s a consistency I would have like to have seen continued.
Oh well it is what it is. Different stores have distribution rights to various lines. Unfortunetly at the moment lenticulars are the line all stores can carry.
I am excited about Kmart days 5 and 6. As we can closer to Cars 2 there will be no reason to hold aanything back then.
Give us our everything from our Tachomints to our Albert Hinkleys( Mike’s happiest ever Cars day?) and everything in between.
Whatever happened to the clown Cars anyway? We were looking foward to those and this new 5 pack coming out with waitress Mia and Tia.
That looks great. We need that Hank. Like Met said there is no movie without Hank Hollsum. He’s the man, er Car.

  • kevin roche says:

are these the only cars or will there be more rubber tires—tach or gaskits perhaps???

  • Lorri says:

It doesnt seem to help getting early to these events. So for first timers, dont bother showing up an hour early. Every time Ive been, the last goofball that rolls in one minute late seems to get his numbers drawn first! Just make sure you get your tickets. And bring lots of kids!!!! Its fun!!!

  • kevin roche says:

there is a guy on ebay selling a lot of 6 new rubber tires, and yes agro dale is one of the them along with rmp, sputter stop,

    • carscrazydd says:

Yep, I been watching this listing to see if it sells. He’s the only one that has these that I know of. I don’t know if these are back door factory cars or what, but the headlamp/grille area stickers leave something to be desired. I hope this isn’t a bad sign of what’s to come!

Oh, and the price – way to high for coming in a little more than a month.

      • Nascarfan says:

My dog called zero is factory backdoor trash bin divers. probably related to The Hong Kong Couple Angela and Chak.

Factory seconds for 10x the price. pretty pricey for NO GUARRANTEE First Quality cars.

I urge everyone to stay away from these sales and fool prices

    • Eric says:

See now, that is a bummer. That is probably the assortment then. Three cars from Day 1 re-released in rubber tire versions, RPM who was readily available in several other lines, Vitoline (I guess this one is pretty good since it has only come out as a launcher or in the Target 4 pack), and Dale … aggro. Another disappointing K-Mart day. I’ll hold some faith in the May 10th announcement of assortment, but it looks pretty bad from where I am sitting.

    • Dunroamin says:

The guy is proably wondering why his auction is getting so much traffic yet no one is bidding! HA!

  • I-am-speed says:

Does anyone else remember the submarine sandwiches that Kmart used to have years ago? They usually kept some ready to go up by the service desk, for those “impulse” purchases on your way in or out.

    Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Yummy. 🙂

      • I-am-speed says:

Ahhhhhh, but at least you can still get those at most Kmarts.

I guess a Kmart with a Subway inside would be the closest thing, but I think WM has a lock on that combination.

Kevin, I think it’s pretty amazing that we remember those days, considering we’re both only 21!!! 😉

    • Dunroamin says:

my Kmart still has the food area, but it is filled with home furnishing, picure frames and some kids lightning mcueen tables. You can still see the kitchen exhasut hood sticking out of the roof!
Can’t wait for Kmart #4. I’m sending my wife cuz I have a little league game to coahc. Shout out to Todd C for helping my wife pick the right cars!

  • Jeff says:

    No Kmarts here…so sad…

  • Shane says:

Thanks for the info lol. I mostly buy the cars for my 4 year old…at least thats what I tell my wife. I am new to this site and am not familiar with the Kmart cars day. Is there something different online than in stores if I go on June 12th? thanks for any info!

    • Nascarfan says:

Less hassle of getting “your own Cars case” by buying online.

      BUT…….

Going to the Events… however the trips to Kmart for the events I have helped with is meeting your neighbor-fellow collectors.

I have handed out raffle tickets, when the Kmart people are busy and made sure that everyone has a ticket that pops in late.

I bring the laptop and take photos, pass out takefiveaday.com info and hand out our own club cards.

Now the kids that really get into “getting the first cars from the actual cases”. Never ceases to amaze me that look on the childrens faces when they get the NEW Cars before their parents do.

I started the Utah Collectors Club a few years ago so we didnt have to “chase each other around the stores” and actually help each other find things. Saves time, gas and frustration. We believe in “Cars Catch and Leave it”, with a card I print up for my members if you dont need it. I always hand out cards while “hunting”.

Theres one guy who was always at the Kmart Day Cars events and he is one of my best friends. Jim Buckley is one of the “other site” members, always willing to help “give what he doesnt need” from his cases to others as I do at the events and and I am glad to call him a close friend as well as the rest of the local Utah people.

We as a club charge each other COST rounded up to the nearest dollar and save on shipping.

Maybe you will get snake bit too and start your own city-state collectors club or help long time DP collectors in your city and state actually start one.

I have an email list of about 20 people and have some “Honorary Utah Members” from overseas.

We try to meet once every two months or so for Dinner, lunches, breakfasts, but are behind on that for now due to everyones schedule. Makes for a nice time.

I have several pics from the past events should you care to see an average event.

    • carscrazydd says:

I don’t think there is anything different on-line during the event. The individual sku numbers on the cars inside the event case do not get entered into the individual Kmart store system until the cases are opened at the event by the collectors, at least that is how it is at the stores in our city. If this procedure is over-looked, no one can pay for the cars at the registers.

If there is some reason you won’t be able to attend, you can always pre-order a case on-line, like Nascarfan says – less hassle. Keep checking back here at Take5aDay.com as we get closer to the event if you choose to pre-order a case. Met and company will give you all the information you need to get this done.

Also, if you only need a few of the cars in the event case, it is more cost effective to attend the event rather than buy a case.

But if you can, come out to the event – it’s good fun if you like kids and want to see that look on their face when they spin around holding up a car they know dad wants but the youngsters number got called first, nothing like it. I don’t know which is better, seeing the youngster smiling away or dad drooling all over himself.

      • Nascarfan says:

carscrazydd, that sku number issue should be fixed now that more stores know ahead of time to enter this info before the event starts.

Our stores didnt the first two events but did get it right the 3rd one.

Also it should be noted that Myself and BMW and Met have worked with Kmart Sr.VP. Dev on the last few Kmart Days on getting suggestions of hotdogs and ice cream treats being done at those events. I dont know that it will happen this time but it has been a subject in events past.

(Not to mention BMW and myself helping getting ordering and billing issues handled last year this time)

( I miss the Kmart made popcorn, sandwiches )

Dev and his team DOES read the kmart posts from time to time. Lets give them a hand for KEEPING Kmart “Cars” Days going

        • carscrazydd says:

Thanks for the info., Nascarfan! Thanks also to you, BMW, Met, Dev and team and anybody else for being actively involved in making things better at the events! Yes, Dev and your team (my hands are clapping) we need to keep the events going, after all where would we be without them, peg-hunting racers. These are the only 2 days of the year when you can walk in a store and rest pretty assured that you’ll get what you came for, and there is nothing wrong with that!

Day 1, problems of course. Day 2 was o.k., went off with-out a hitch. Day 3 was when one of the employees running the event got called to the check lanes after the first round of cases were all opened and came back with her scanner and stopped the event to scan the sku’s. I could picture the scene at the registers, not total kaos, but not good. Hopefully this one will go smoother. Other than that Day 3 was smooth.

I think the hot dogs and ice cream is a good idea. Giving the kids as well as the adults something to help knock down the anxiety bug while we are waiting for the event to start would be real good. Although I have not experienced the popcorn and sandwiches here in central Ohio, I’d sign on for that too. I take my kids with me to the events (as all of them will have a set of rubber tire racers someday, 6 sets total) and they all go crazy asking me how much longer! So I don’t go crazy, I allow them to go wander the toy aisles and then go find them before the tickets get called at event start, but then they want to buy everything in the store! An alternative would be quite welcome!

  • TFCars95 says:

I live in UK with no kmart and i still get exited, cant wait!!!

  • Nascarfan says:

    You make me laugh Met.

You forgot to add: maybe sit up for a few nights in a row with cat naps and a ITS LIVE and up and running “Wake Up” call list waiting for the site to “GO LIVE”???

    • carscrazydd says:

Agreed, nice post Met! Comical and Excitable reading on the things to do list and good info. about the rewards.

Kmart needs to get in more product, maybe it’s just central Ohio, but all our Kmart’s have small Cars display sections on the aisles and only new product lately (or since ’09 holidays season) has been 2 of the 4 pack Toons, and of course lenticulars (and these are behind).

Would love to spend money for Cars at Kmart versus Target or WalMart.
