Matty.com … Talk to the Hand?

Matty has launched a forum …

As the email warning states at the bottom, “I can’t talk to you.”

Yea, Matty launched a forum that is only language moderated (there is a full page of warnings about double secret probations and bannings) but in every topic, no Mattel or Matty moderation, no answers, no acknowledge that the ‘suggestion and comment’ box of your questions, comments or suggestions doesn’t just drop straight into Garbage Compactor 3263827.

So, join up, sign up, be our friend … oh yea, please answer other reader questions since we won’t be …

So as a public service, we will answer Matty forum questions HERE πŸ™‚

“I’ve once heard of a “CIRCUS CARS” Boxed Set exclusive to matty.com site coming soon. We would love to see this!!! Does anyone know if that’s true?”

Well, there’s no photos nor do we know which of the CARS they are going to put in the box set but since we know it’s a 5-pack Matty only item, we can presume it’s the row of CARS behind PT Flea (he’s been released obviously with Flik) and not including green “Mack.”

Since they look like repaints and add-ons to current CARS including: (from left to right): Nick Stickers, Darrell Cartrip, Guido, Polly Puddlejumper & Dexter Hoover – it doesn’t seem to be a stretch to see a release but will it make it out of Matty’s dungeon? Hard to say but there is a UPC & Product Number if that means anything … 0-27084-83784-1 and R6426. The box looks like the one the same as the Sarge Boot Camp-new TRU 5 pack box but no real shocker there …

“what about a novelty cars/ghostbusters crossover?”

Nope. Will never happen. We might see a Ratatouille or Up parody in CARS2 but nothing that is not Pixar and probably not even Disney. If you want one, buy a custom. They don’t really want to deal with creative signoffs nor they do they want to – there are plenty of their own characters to have fun with.

“Does anyone know if the Dragon McQueen that comes with that Tokyo Mater set is diecast or plastic?”

PLASTIC. All playset CARS are now plastic.

“I’m still wondering when Faux Wheel Drive will appear. Isn’t he due for a launcher of some kind?”

Yes, still scheduled – when? ???

“This makes me a little on edge, just because Kmart’s first CARS Day was the standard plastic tires, and then, with the rubber tires, it means starting all over again. I just hope none gets the idea to restart this promotion with lenticular eyes. I’d write angry letters if that happened.”

While there’s no info on the next one or two Kmart CARS Day, there is no info but let’s just say anything is possible … and perhaps even likely … I have no info and if I did, I would tell you … even if it caused a riot. πŸ˜†

Are there plans to produce any more large scale pieces?

There was a giant proto Ramone but whether they actually put it in the line might be answered later this Spring – as of now, no more 1:24’s or 1:21 … the problem is with the licensing markup, the CARS 1:24 line is not priced in line with other 1:24 diecasts. Every other 1:24 diecast at $50 either contains way more accessories or way more functions – admittedly hard to achieve here since doors and hoods don’t open but that meant McQueen should have come with a cone or a Rust-eze can or maybe even a sound chip … Mater’s tow should move and can hook things … and of course, as noted in the post, normally you buy a 1:24 scale line because the 1:64 is too much of a compromise on details or features – clearly not the case with the 1:55 series, the greatest licensed diecast line ever if not the greatest diecast line ever. So, the 1:24 line as it was conceived and executed was more of an real expensive redundancy.

I would like to think that Mattel would finish the fixed eye racers thru promo’s, launchers or Kmart Cars day events before switching over to lenticular eyes completely. We already have seen some of the SOTS racers go lenticular including View Zeen, seven to date. If they don’t finish the fixed eye racers, they’ll make customizers happy as we’ll all be getting customs to finish the set with plastic tires (which would cut them out of the profits and at the same time upset alot of their target audience, which is children mostly and collectors as well.) And they better not let my 6 yr.old son down as he wants his fixed eye set completed as well.

Mattel must be crazy, from my viewpoint they have alot of racers to get out to their customers. 1) They need to finish the fixed eye plastic tire racers, then 2) finish the rubber tire racers including going back to the start with McQueen, Chick, King, etc., then 3) finish the lenticular eye racers.

Now, if we were to invoke logic – logic allows us to think that there is still plenty of time (which there is) before Cars2 for Mattel to accomplish this, and even if not they can continue to trickle racers out after Cars2. If this is what they’re plan is, then all we have to do is be patient.

But, if we invoke logic, logic clearly dictates that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one. We all saw what happened with Mater Tall Tales. All my kids race to the TV when Disney Channel is on and MTT short comes on, no matter how many times it might be a re-run, they still watch it.

iis dragon mcqueen really plastic? future stuff too?

(MET: In the PLAYSETS, yes … otherwise, no … though Dragon McQueen in the single is about the lightest metal thing I’ve ever beheld … I think Mattel actually invented an alloy of zinc that weighs like paper).

Met, I visit Take5 once or twice daily. This morning I click in here and find some information in this post that is very informant and answered some questions for me as well. I want you to know that I appreciate that you are answering these forum questions.

This is just one more thing you are doing to help keep us 5ers aware and at the same time giving us info that we otherwise have no way of getting. Thank You and I hope you keep doing this service!

    (MET: Thanks for reading!)

  • 5oclockshadow says:

wow, no one even asked about lenticulars?

  • applefinatic says:

    HMMMMMMMMMM

  • buckland-blowouts says:

    can’t wait for them clowners!!!

    And Ramone…mmmmmmm!!!

  • rpag says:

well, if you read the post above, Matty says:

“While there’s no info on the next one or two Kmart CARS Day, there is no info but let’s just say anything is possible … and perhaps even likely … I have no info and if I did, I would tell you … even if it caused a riot. ”

Anything is possible? And perhaps likely? How would you read that statement?

  • BigMOCats says:

The only problem is you(or anyone for that matter) doesn’t have the answers and most posted here will be just speculation. People reading, however, will take you at your word leading to discrepancies down the road.

  • Eric says:

We bought the 3 1/24 scale Cars from Matty… ho-hum. I think Doc was a comlpete waste of time (and money). Ramone would potentially be really nice, heck even Fillmore or Sheriff would have been better than Doc. There is no worse character to do in 1/24 scale than Doc (IMHO). The character is completely bland, and without any opening doors or hood (which I guess would be an interesting component since that would be the equivalent of looking inside his head, right?), there is no appeal. Perhaps if they went with the Fabulous Hudson Hornet instead? Now a 1/24 Scale Mack would have been cool, or a very expensive set of 1/24 Tuners… πŸ™‚ Heck, I’d even shell out $1,800 for a 1/24 scale SOTS set! Anyway, I think your assessment is spot on MET. For what you get, not worth the coin you’ll shell out. Focus on filling in the non-lenticular gaps and prepare for Cars 2.

  • PirateDad says:

Send in the clowns is SO appropriate when it comes to Matty!!!

  • rpag says:

well he hinted to the next kmd4 having lenticular eyes? Why not finish the rubber tire thing first?

  • Mike H says:

Well, looks like you made a valiant attempt to answer my SOTS vehicle question. At least I got some kind of answer here.

We’re the so-and-so stepchild of Mattel by the looks of it.

or in movie terms, we’re the Spirited Away to Sweet Home Alabama (Disney released SA in only 150 theaters, and SHA in about 2000 when those films came out in September 2002).

  • Dunroamin says:

I keep signing up for this mailing and never seem to get it…hohum

  • MackDaddy says:

Cute! πŸ˜€ Can’t wait! Send in the clowns!
