Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Wonka Factory Packing …

Normally, you pack items into a box by picking up items and putting them into the box … but apparently the Mattel factory has decided to save time and money by the gravity method … whatever falls in, it’s done …

packing

Rippers found these in the UK a few days ago …

kamrt

It’s 2008 all over again …

Or Nikko’s find in the Target Final Lap cases, Kmart CARS …

haul

Or Danny’s find … ‘Eyes Without a Face’ Pitty …

face

Or the “Dude, Mellow Out, Man … Mel-low Out. It’s Cool.” Pitty …

Peace Out

And as Fiddlehead-Heather found that the cutbacks on Post-It note buying has ramifications when some wants to pass a note along to shipping.

Written

Or Pitty packing … one thin, one fat, one wide, some tires, a toolchest & a crew chief … okay, Crew Chief and tool chest – no problemo.

The rest, um, problemo …

Wrong Tires, Only WIDE Pitty’s.

Team Dinoco Crew Wide WM

Wrong tires. Right Pitty’s.

Team Dinoco Crew TIRES WM

Or apparently Leak Less – I spoke too soon on error variations … so far … there seem to be the following packing variations:

Team Leak Less Crew FAT WM

Error #1: Wide, Thin & Thin

Error #2: Fat, Fat & Thin

Error #3: Fat, Wide & Fat

Error #4: Wide, Wide & Thin

Error #5: Wide, Wide & Wide

And of course the correct one.

And apparently, all the right color tires …

So, after 40-minutes, apparently the packer went stir crazy, screamed, “No more difference I can tell!” in Cantonese & English … then pulled his pants down and starting shouting ‘Collect Them All!” and just threw them all and himself into the gravity dispenser … well, it’s no crazier than what we have here … :-/

Okay, all you math wizes out there, how many combos are there presuming all the toolchests & crew chiefs are always correct?

I noticed in Target the other day, that another toy line has packaging error problems too. My son is a big fan of the Bakugans and the most recent items on the shelves had incorrect labels for characters. Wonder if they share packaging facilities.

    Off Topic:

Does anyone know what these are? Met? Did I miss a post on these?

    ebay item #:

  • Roswell says:

awww, wish i could of found those rare racers in the wild,
but apart form the supermarkets there is getting fewer and fewer places that sell cars now!

the entertainer shop where i live has stopped selling them,

    woolworth closed down,

    no TRU for miles,

and the nearest Disney store never seems bothered about putting anything out worth buying! just some badly painted plastic crap!
    i want Disney Store FRANK!!!!!

    bad times!

  • Mike H says:

One reason why I vowed never to collect packaging variants…I’d probably end up either insane or bankrupt.

Almost went insane at my local Target when I went food-shopping. Stopped by the toy aisle, and they had 2 Trunk Fresh Pitties, 16 Tumbleweeds, and nothing else…well, unless you count the variant packaging Michael Schumacher Ferraris that someone put in another aisle…or the Gasprin/Tow Cap 2-pack, or the one Elvis RV.

Wish I knew what that DCPI code was that everyone’s talking about for Final Lap, but I can’t find it anywhere. Though this does make me wonder…seeing as how everyone seems to be snatching these up before the 10/11 release date…does this mean when that date comes, we’re not going to find any Bubbles, Polly or Skip?

(MET: Depending on your area and how intensive your CARS collectors in the are are + how responsive your Target stores are. Some are not selling until 10/11 – others …).

  • buckland-blowouts says:

    So Dude-Met-Dude…

I have to wonder… Aside from the original two – Mini stickers Fred and Stickers McQueen… Are the other chase cars really that chaseable?

They pop up all over the world in numbers too large to control…

(MET: The original numbers only refer to the US market … it’s a chase as long as 1 more person wants it versus supply 🙂 … so sometimes 7 worldwide is 1 too many and other times, 2 million is not enough 🙂 ).

  • BMW says:

Guess we can say these aren’t Kmart Exclusives anymore.
Australia, now UK. Interesting. They show up a year later, so whats next Brazil, Canada, Turkey.

(MET: “Exclusives” only refers to the US marketplace – unless it specifically says Worldwide exclusive).

    • 5oclockshadow says:

TRU Japan …man they had everyones exclusives last year…. even SDCC exclusives

    • Eric says:

I think it is safe to say they will move the older inventory anywhere they can. They certainly aren’t going to discard it. You know they had left over stock. You know K-Mart doesn’t manage inventory well … at all. God, how many cases of Day 2 stuff do you think they have left to move? Probably even more with Day 3 since there are no show stopping new cars in the mix. Now we have to make sure we sell off the last of our Sputter Stops, View Zeens and Juice’s before they show up everywhere! 🙂

      • Jeaks says:

I don’t think this is to do with Kmart but those Brain Childs at Mattel International where being slow doesn’t refer to train running late. As I have said before these cars are showing up at Target in Australia not Kmart and in any case Kmart and Target have no connection with Kmart or Target in US.

In fact in Australia Kmart & Target are brother and sister as they are owned 100% by Wesfarmers.

The issue is Mattel International who have as much direction as a cargo ship overrun by Somali pirates. They are also living proof that evolution can be regressive.

        • Jeaks says:

PS case in point on Mattel International and being both directionless and useless. I picked up both Octane Gain Semi and Non Stall Semi last night in Target (Morley Australia). Both are US packaging.

All other Megasize (including pegwarmer Elvis) were international packing.

1:55’s were World of Cars not not lenticular or Race O Ram.

      • SweetBug says:

Found K-Mart Day 2 cars: Todd, Patti at Big Lots in SoCal, also at Disneyland, but no racers…

  • 5oclockshadow says:

‘eyes without a face’ pretty funny …… because I just found a sidekick at Walmart… all the Guidos were ‘face without eyes’ … just solid white …. looked like zombies…..

It is nice to see the Kmart Days 1 cars back in the shuffle…..
    keep em coming….

  • Samuel says:

Jon (johnny2scarves) from the UK emailed me the other day with a similar story – not sure what store he was at but he said they had some Kmart Day 1 racers on the pegs and I believe he was able to buy a few but then an employee suddenly grabbed up all the extras and took them away!!

    • Jonny2Scarves says:

Yep that’s true! They were in Tesco. None of the Kmart cars scanned so they got a regular car and scanned it instead. Then after that the ‘Toy Manager’ went and took all of them off the shelf and took them out back, never to be seen again.

This is the same thing that happened to me with some of the launchers a few months ago at tesco. When they wouldn’t scan they took them all off the shelves and said they weren’t allowed to sell them. They said ‘it could be weeks before they get a code that will scan, we’ve had some stuff out the back for years that still doesn’t scan’. This sounds crazy to me – you’d think that they would at least try and sort it out and get the barcodes sorted but they just don’t seem to care at Tesco, most of the staff are very unhelpful.

      Jon

      • MiaSenorita says:

So when do you think the best time would be to sneak into the “back” to check out the stock, LOL! They must have more stuff in the back than on the shelves with that inventory system……

  • jammywin says:

I managfed to get a full set from my local tesco of Kmart day 1 cars here in the UK!!!!!

the case also included sally cone dexter hoover and cactus mcqueen whom ive never seen here in the UK B4!!!!

was to sure how to start a new post on this site!!

  • Steve AKA: Poppa says:

So, Mattel’s Hot Wheels Mystery packaging has made it to the Cars line! Next little black bubbles headed for the pegs!

    • John in Missouri says:

I really am a peaceful person, but if I ever catch someone in the act of opening one of those Hot Wheels Mystery Cars in the store… let’s just say I’d probably make that night’s news! 🙂

  • kevin roche says:

nice find on the kmart cars..

  • Eric says:

3,416 combinations … collect them all!

And to P Daddy’s question – I tend to think about pulling my pants down around those sassy little packing peanut tubes 7.5 times out of 10. Don’t you?

    • Piston Car Hunter says:

      I only got 243 combinations:

We’ve got 3 possible combinations to choose from for each tire stack and pitty. There are a total of 5 stacks/pitties.

Therefore, if I remember my combinatorial statistics/probability formula correctly, then there are

      3^5 (3 to the 5th power) number of combinations = 243

Then again, if you assume that both tire stacks are always the same color, it goes down to 81 combinations (3^4).

Any Statistics majors out there, feel free to point out any mistakes. 🙂

(MET: 81 combos … I believe they will get that will earn them their own checklist magazine 😉 … ).

      • MiaSenorita says:

I am going to have to disagree here. I am not a Stat major.. but I took a LOT of stats for Finance. The problem with your theory is that the tires have 3 possible options.. when they only have two: Blue or Yellow….

I come up with 54 combinations per box, IF the tires are always the same color as each other AND order matters… such that, wide, fat, wide is a different box set than fat, wide, wide. Make sense? Tires have 2 variations, and pitties each have 3 variations… order matters (permutation sort of calculation).

        Formula = [(3^3)x 2]x 3 = 162

Which gives us a grand total of 162 different sets considering 3 different piston cup team box sets. (54 x 3).

(MET: Don’t forget that as long as it’s not three of the same kind of Pitty, they can be arranged differently so more numbers into a longer equation 🙂 The only constant are the toolchest & the crew chief so there’s your SAT question. Bonus question – what’s the combination number if you add error CARS into the equation? (no face plate but right pitty’s 🙂 ).

        • MiaSenorita says:

also, I forgot to mention I assumed that the pitties were the same color as the crew cheif. Has there been any sighting of an error with different colored pitties? I can’t remember! LOL

        • MiaSenorita says:

If the pitties could be any of the 3 colors (blue, yellow, green) and shape then the total per set combinations goes to 1458, yikes!!!!!!!!!!! I think… LOL. THis could all be garbage math as well… I was pregnant when I took later stats classes…. and we know how well our brain works while preggo………..

        • MiaSenorita says:

Hhahahaha, MET, I did assume that there could be wide, fat, wide, OR fat, wide, wide and that would be a different box set. Counted! Varients… um that is another story 🙂 If each pitty spot could be held by fat, wide, or thin pitty… blue, yellow, or green…. there or not…. face plate or not…. ummmmmmmm….. that would be 19 variations for each pitty location…. with 3 locations that is 19^3 = 6859…..

Next add in the variations of tires… each tire spot can have blue or yellow or none, so 3 variations per tire spot = 3^2 = 9 tire variations…. AFter that, I am lost! LOL

          6859 pitty set-ups multiplied by 9 tire variations = 61,731! SWEET! do I get a B+ yet?

          (MET: A+ … 🙂 ).

      • Piston Car Hunter says:

Interesting, I had assumed the tires could be yellow, green, or blue. What color does the HTB crew use?

  • PirateDad says:

WHY did he pull his pants down???

Was one fat and one wide and one thin???

  • Ace Diamondrunner says:

I’m so looking forward to the chase King with “Mater Champion” piston cup…

Okay, okay, I’m kidding…it will really say “Chick Hicks Champion.”

  • hostile takeover banker says:

hilarious stuff. Mattel are on fire again! I do hope I can find a complete set of K-Mart day 1 cars like that though!

    errr, collect them all!

  • rumbler74 says:

Oh Sweet Jesus, the correct packing apparently is going to be the “hard one to find.”

  • swb says:

hope when i go to buy them they are correct
