Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: Lenticulars Next & Next for Lenticulars

Along with the 5 Lenticulars in the Kmart CASE available this Sunday’s pre-order, here are the next three cases of lenticulars.

Lenticular Case C 2009

Lenticular Case D 2009

Lenticular Case E 2009

The Kmart Case will probably ship in early October, CASE C should arrive before the actual Kmart CARS Collectors Day on the 17th of October.* CASE D & E will presumably ship in late October or early November – it’s probably a safe bet to guess that CASE D & E will comprise of the Walmart Holiday tray-pallet shipment.

* Though of course, the Walmart tray shipment out now already contains CARS of CASE C but technically speaking, CASE C is not released yet.

The most interesting thing in CASE E is of course, Pit Crew Sarge – according to the ‘John Lasseter Rule,’ no lenticular should ship before the non-lenticulars are on the shelf so either we will get Pit Crew Sarge as a Final Lap in the next three-four weeks or that rules goes out the window or Pit Crew Sarge gets pushed back …

But of course, the most telling point is there are a lot of repeats already in CASE C, D & E of the townies or a lot of McQueen variants …

(there’s not much point in discussing the over-packing of Lightning McQueen’s)

Plus, CASES F & G are not that much different … so along with the four trays of CARS already in Walmart stores + another couple hundred coming in 3 weeks (6 trays?), by the end of Christmas time, we should know exactly how lenticulars are doing.

As of now, it’s hard to tell as completist collectors are buying the initial releases but as repeats start coming and in greater quantities … how will the general public respond to lenticular versions of 2006 & 2007 CARS?

Is there enough interest to make a dent? In a season of Final Lap CARS, Haulers, Storytellers, Christmas CARS and a myriad of Piston Cup box sets … it should be pretty telling what the tally and the store pegs will look like on December 31, 2009 …

Will there be a winner? Will there a loser? Will we be surprised?

These case assortments are putting me to sleep. Absolutely no reason to troll the aisles of Wal-Mart since Target, Fred Meyer, et al are carrying Lenticulars. I can’t imagine Wal-Mart’s gorilla will not be demanding the Final Lap line, but, then again, nobody at any retailers knows jack about toys anyway. Also, produce a three minute cartoon to be able to market millions of toys- that’s what it all about these days.

    • Matt says:

Steve, I agree 100%. There is absolutely no reason at all to stalk the aisles of Wal-Mart any longer given that Target sells lenticulars, haulers, team haulers, movie moments, launchers, etc… and most importantly, Final Lap at Target. I also think you have hit it on the head with your comment about producing a three minute cartoon and marketing millions of toys…. aka four different rescue squad maters…..

I literally made the decision last week while holding the toons box set with Mia and Tia nurse that I was not going to give in and buy ANY of the toons save for the SDC set I already have signed by Martin…… it will never end on the toons line, and although I think that they have some of the most awesome cars of the line, it truly is a scam from Mattel…. all the while they shun the main line.

BOYCOTT…. my wallet is a lot heavier by that very decision. Watch out for confetti blister pitty’s with red, now yellow, oh wait now back to red eyes, and different constipated facial expression… They only continue to play these tactics because we have shown them that they turn a profit from us when they do…..

      • Steve AKA: Poppa says:

Back in the day, Star Wars, the toys came out months after the movie premiered. George Lucas thought the movie wouldn’t do well. He guessed wrong! He even filmed it on substandard film stock! I remember when we had to buy a certificate for a future toy mailing for our son. Now the toys precede the movie in order to hype it up. I have also decided not to buy the Car Toon line. I may break down and buy a Sarge or two if he shows up in a cartoon!

(MET: Actually, when he needed more money to put into the film he offered to trade the studio his Director’s pay for that money and if they gave him merchandiscing rights … humm, I wonder if that was a good decision. No one thought Star Wars would do much business – they thought it was a kid’s movie. 20th Century Fox actually put all their marketing towards what they thought would be their big hit of the summer – OTHER SIDE OF MIDNIGHT. You also have to keep in mind, licensing was considered a minor footnote then … so when the movie was STILL in the theaters around Christmas time, they didn’t have the toys ready in time so you got a certificate which of course, unredeemed now is worth big bucks along with the empty box 🙂 ).

        • Mike H says:

Ah yes the ‘Early Bird’ empty box set.

Note: I was not born at the time, I learned this later during my fandom days of Star Wars in the mid-90’s. In the mid-80’s when VHS first came out and the Star Wars figures were on their way out, my parents bought me plenty of figures, since they were 2/$1.00 at KB Toys.

        • Steve AKA: Poppa says:

That’s affirmative! I remember JC Penny use to rent an unoccupied store front at Villa Plaza, Lakewood, WA to sell Christmas toy stock out of. After Christmas the store dumped everything. I remember holding a complete selection of the 12 inch action figures in my grubby paws. They were only $4.98 each! I put them back including the IG-88 🙁

Son does have a complete set of the original 3 3/4″ and 12″ figures tho! 🙂

  • Michael says:

Found case C at my Army Air Force Exchange Store (AAFES) here at MacDill AFB, Fl last month.
If you are military all you need to do is request your BX/PX carries these cars. For MacDill Sales has been good for them. They even sale all the LMQs peg warmers.

  • lou says:

why is mattel worried about the line dying before Cars ? what about the pittys, crew chiefs, haulers, final lap unreleased cars, etc. forget the stinking lenticulars and get back to basics. fundamentals, boys, fundamentals.

  • Knightrider says:

It would appear that case C of the lenticulars is out in the UK already. I managed to find Chick Hicks with Piston Cup in the Disney Store yesterday, and the rest of whats listed for case C was on the shelves!

  • iamspeed says:

Gil is available on Amazon.com for $18.17 w/free shipping if you spend $25.00 Fulfilled by Amazon, Gil is sold by outside seller.

I ordered Gil along with “Mater Saves Christmas”, got FREE SHIPPING.

Only 3 left after I placed my order.

Figure the cost of gas to search for Gil, this is a steal.

  • Daniel says:

Of the first 5 Lenticular cases, there are:

25 Original MQs and 18 MQ variants (not including the Chase).

21% of Lenticulars are the Original MQ and 36% are MQs.

If you look at the pegs, they are 95% MQ.

    Brilliant Marketing department!!!!

  • TarheelBill says:

Why the Chase Ransburg Darrell Cartrip ??? This wasn’t in the movie was it? Or have they just found another way to expand the ever expanding line? There are plenty of great “Chase Cars” that could be released from the movie. Cruisin McQueen w/bumper stickers (like in the movie), Fabulous Hudson Hornet w/3 Piston Cups, Ghostlight Mater, on and on…. If Mattel is out of Chase Car ideas just ask the TFAD folks. 😉

    • Samuel says:

I know I’ve beat this one to death, but I still can’t believe they actually released a “Chase” Chick Hicks and didn’t make it a Thunder Chick Hicks – it would have been a perfect chase car and it was even in the movie and has relevance. I would argue that other than Stickers Mcqueen or Saluting Sarge it would be the most relevant.

    • Lorri says:

maybe one day at the factory they accidentally used “shiny paint” instead of “metallic flake paint” Look New Chase Car boss!

  • iamspeed says:

Hopefully, Mattel is listening to my requests for a Fabulous Hudson Hornet w/THREE Piston Cups!!!

  • iamspeed says:

I’m just glad to see The King w/Piston Cup coming fairly soon!

  • Patrick says:

    Great! Another 25 McQueens!

    • Mike H says:

Lightning McQueen is becoming the ‘Batman’ of the CARS line.

You know how when a new Batman line comes out, the lower-packed villains and secondary characters are gone, and the shelf is just full of Batmen? Take the Dark Knight series…all summer long, nothing but Batman every where, since all the Jokers and Joker’s hired goon were snapped up.

  • jmularczyk says:

boy do I miss the days before the lenticulars were released. I can’t remember the last time I got a mainline single car that was new – honestly with the exception of Saluting Sarge (I’m not counting the Mcqueen and Chick with piston cups as they really aren’t new) – there really hasn’t been any since Kmart day 2 – wasn’t that in July? and before that wasn’t it Milton and Andrea. Sorry to complain but the lenticulars just aren’t doing it for me. Now that I’m bummed out – I’m sure the next time I go hunting I’ll find the mother load of new cars and I’ll be all excited again.

  • materrocks says:

Thornton CO. I am still waiting for something new in the car line to appear here. I have been dry in the search of. Is there anyone in Colorado that has some insights?

  • Samuel says:

I hate to be argumentative, but lenticular Case C has been at our local Walmart for almost 3 weeks – and it’s not part of the endcap display – back in the Garden Center aka “toy holding area again” they have 12-14 cases of lenticular case C and have been stocking one every few days. Needless to say, I have plenty of Flo and Chase Chick Hicks if you need them 🙂

Also, Target has been stocking lenticular Case C for a couple of weeks too.

  • pcmryan says:

Wow, I am so excited (sarcasm!!!!) Too bad the new cases will never make it to the shelves because this line is not selling. Target would be making a killing if they would actually get in the final lap series. Here in Omaha, NE, I haven’t seen anything new in months.

  • Brown Fury says:

Is Sarge becoming the second most avalible casting behind Lightning McQueen? He seems to be showing up everywhere! Bring on Pit Crew Sarge!!!!

  • Matt says:

Is it just me, or does Mattel seem to be concentrating on absolutely everything except the original line… seriously, 4 different types of Rescue Mater, other Toons, Lenticulars, Story Tellers…etc. When are they truly going to concentrate on the bread and butter? I am absolutely sick and tired of waiting for the “Final Lap” cars to show. We get one new hauler every 2-3 months, while the old ones linger on the shelves, they then put just the cabs in the oversized boxes, and give you one new one there too. BTW when is the last time we got a new oversized case? Also see MET’s post from yesterday regarding Richard Kensington. Also, when are they going to release something (except for the new boot camp finally) that isn’t a regurgitated collection of something else that we already have.. i.e. three packs and racer team hauler collections. In the meantime, we who do not collect the atrocity Lenticulars or non-canon toons wait two months in between searching for one non-lenticular Chase car. They then back it up with K-Mart day 3 which is a re-release of even more cars that we have already scoured for, but this time they have rubber wheels.

I understand that Mattel is just trying to make a buck, and they know that some of us here are willing to buy the same car in 4 different variations, but I am truly growing tired of this line, and the manner in which their distribution has continually waned. I for one am glad that I will be done with this line at the conclusion of the final lap, and have been thinking very hard this last month about completely throwing in the towel as many of our friends have already done in the past, and selling the whole collection including SOS. I have yet to truly make up my mind, but look in the trade board for something soon if I go that route.

    • BMW says:

Matt, hang in there. Final Lap will come soon, no doubt.
Just avoid the repeats, push them aside, and look for the golden Chase Cars.

Mattel will get the word eventually, if we vote with our wallets. Keep it closed until the ones we want come.

I bought the townies on Lenticular last month, but I am now planning to return them.

      • PirateDad says:

        BOYCOTT!! BOYCOTT!!!

I agree BMW, speak with your MONEY, DOn;t buy the LEnticulars, Bottom LIne is ALL the Matters to Mattel!!!

        Boycott the googly eyes!!

        • Mike H says:

What if we vote with our wallets, and they feel there isn’t any money in the line and pull it?

It could be like the packing company in my hometown, where the union workers kept holding out for better things…and in the end, the packing company just said, ‘fine…we’ll shut the place down.’

If it wasn’t for how poorly Hasbro handled the ‘Indiana Jones’ distribution, Cars would be in the place of ‘worst round of toy distribution I’ve seen.’

The Marvel 3 3/4″ figures, Star Wars, these figures get restocked plenty of times…but it seems I’m more likely to find an old case or lenticulars than anything good.

          I still haven’t seen a showgirls 3-pack.

      • Daniel says:

I just returned most of the (first case) Lenticulars I bought.

Was going to collect them all, but when I saw Lenticular Tow on the mini poster, I thought “they’re going to re-release the entire line and I am not doing this again!”

    • Hey Matt,
Here’s hoping you don’t give up on this line, but if you decide you have no other choice I would be interested in your SOTS set.

Also, playing Devil’s Advocate for just a minute, I am not a fan of the Lenticulars either, but Tyler is. He grabs an old Chick Hicks and says, “His eyes don’t move.” Then he grabs a lenticular Chick Hicks and says, “Oh, that’s better, his eyes move, daddy.”

So, I’ve relegated to getting him the Townies and Tunerz but that’s as far as we’ll go with them.

  • cars-in-your-eyes says:

Case C Lenticulars have been available at the Disneystore in the UK for the last week and a half. Does that mean we got case C first? ( picks himself up off the floor)

So in the UK for case A go to Argos, For Case B go to TRU and for case C go to the Disneystore!

  • ScoobyDoo says:

Can make John Lasseter make a new rule, ruling out the lenticulars?

  • AlbertHinkey says:

Gross….Who farted?….Oh I guess I’m smelling the Mattel lenticulars, no surprise
    🙂

Now as for the Ransburg chase cars and the Pit Crew Sarge? Can’t wait! Where do I sign up?

    • Ace Diamondrunner says:

Hey Mattel! Have you thought about making a case of chase cars? One case, 24 new cars that will never be sold again? Now THAT would be a moneymaker.

  • Edge says:

Some squirrel at Mattel has been reading the instructions on their laundry detergent too often… wash, rinse, REPEAT! Now we even have a repeat chase car??

But just for the record, I am NOT complaining at all, as it’s giving my wallet a much-welcomed break. Of course I’m using the term “break” very loosely, with all the Final Lap, Toons, Haulers and Storytellers coming up soon!

  • jason says:

We are closing in on all they can possibly do to keep cars alive until Cars 2 hits theatres. Kmart days 3 is looking better after seeing these case assortments

  • nikko says:

This is just my guess but i think once it gets close to christmas, Parents are going to buy what ever they find on the shelves to make their kids happy weather it be lencticular or regular. But that is just my guess.. Got to make the kids happy right. oh and the BIG kids also lol.

  • Unimog says:

I want that Darrel Cartrip Ransburg!
