Here’s a shock – TRU promotional material that is not the same as the Disney Mattel information … (UPDATE AT BOTTOM)

This one says, Buy 5 at TRU Get 1 Free CAR by mail – starting from September 19th to December 31th.
Fill out this form and mail it in with your receipts … unlike the US promo, no need to mail in the cards.
Keep in mind the website says September 5 to December 31 … so uh, good luck with that two week difference thing.
“Rippers” also mentions there are not that many CARS on TRU’s pegs …. I believe I have heard that one before somewhere …
What is the mystery CAR?
The inside word is that it will Tach 0 Mint as is the US promo … but send us a pic when you get it!

“Just been into our TRU and asked about the Promo. There was a big box of leaflets sitting behind the Customer Services Desk. I spoke to the Manager who showed me a copy of an email that had been sent to all managers of TRU stores saying not to put out the POP (point of purchase) material and keep in in a safe place as the manufacturer has put the promo on hold for now.”
Guess we’ll get a confirmation on Monday on what’s up … this does not bode well for the US Promo starting in two weeks then … presumably the UK promo was going to just latch onto the US promo but maybe the US one was pushed back or delayed again. Maybe we’ll get more info on Monday … humm …..

hi i was in tru in york on sunday
i asked about the promo posters she said there was a delay on them.
they had a NEW case of cars out on the pegs,dale,rpm chief,tex,tankcoat pitty and kranks
we really have our fingers on the pulse in yorkshire!!
so sent off for a second car hope they arrive.?

Here’s hoping that the updates posted today are indeed accurate… Perhaps the difficulty with the promos is to make us appreciate the Promo Cars even more when receive them?
Goodness, why always the difficulty with these promos. They have plenty of time to plan for these…. and THEY pick the dates…. weird. Lets hope my car arrives by Oct 28th 🙂 THANKS CROSSWAY!!!!!!!

Just Spoken to Mattel Customer Care Team, and they say the Promo started at the beginning of September, and they are not aware of any delay or hold so…

Did they have the collector poster showing all the Cars you can get at TRU? It says on the Carstoys.co.uk website you can pick them up there, but I’ve never seen them.

Did you ask what the mystery car is??? If the promo has started, shouldn’t it be known what the car is now?
Is it put on hold due to the tru sale of buy 2 get 1 free or whatever the sale is that starts tomorrow?
(MET: TRU sale just in the US).
That Buy 2 Get the 3rd free is for the Mega Size, if I’m correct, and they don’t qualify for the promo purchases, those have to be mainline/lenticular singles…..plus, that’s the ad for the US, not the UK, so whether or not the UK will get a Buy 2/Get 1 offer is unknown.
Maybe paint problems need to be resolved – fixed like on the Gaskits promo?????
im really curious what this car could be! 🙂 because it really wouldnt make any sense for any of the coming kmart cars to be released as a promo? when our uk friends can get them from us!:) lol hmmmm.. it would be sweet if it really was another gaskits!!
If cars-in-your-eyes above comment is correct, then the promo is on hold and we’ll never know what the car is/was supposed to be anyway.
Tach O Mint is still looking like the car that was to be offered, same as the US promo we’re supposed to see in the near future.
The email did say to keep the leaflets in a safe place and that the promo was on hold, not cancelled. Possibly a delay with the production of the promo cars or they have had such a dramatic interest in the first 2 weeks. There is every chance that it will run as normal, but that they don’t want the leaflets out yet so they are inudated with applications that they can’t fulfill within the 28 days. (Very logical so possibly unlikely as we are dealing with Mattel). So maybe all is well in the world of the UK promo. We will just have to wait and see.

The USA promos stated that NO GIFT reciepts. It had to be the actual reciepts
the gift receipt is to return the cars after, not send in for the promo…still wouldn’t work in the US though since we need to send the card backs in

Cross every T and dot every I. That promo stunk for the way it was handled.
So how does a guy like your friend Richard get boxes and boxes of SWS cars, when Mattel made it so hard for customers to get the SWS promo car? I don’t get their marketing plan at all. Maybe thats why TRU cancelled the Gaskits promo in the USA. Too many angry customers. I know I wrote them about it, and others did too.
Okay, here is what I did with N20…. ssshhhhhhh, it’s a a secret!
I let PirateSon open his cars, I keep those cardbacks and make a list of them, then when the promo happens, I buy cars he has already opened, OR that we actually NEED, then using the gift receipt, RETURN the unopened, and send in the package from ones we have already opened, along with the original reciepts! Simple and effective, and NO GUILT since Mattel is IGNORANT to ask for the Cardbacks in the first place!!
SMART!!!!! I should start doing this. Why not? I already spend a fortune on this collection.

No not all at. I am peeved because of the shoddy way Mattel handled the TRU promo, and denied so many applications for silly reasons, and people did not get the SWS promo because of that. Read Mets story. Then they go and sell overstock?
Ridiculous. No not Paul’s fault, of course. Just mad because all these cars did not end up in the hand’s of customers who were denied. that is all.

Unlike the US promo, the UK version does NOT ask for the card backs…..just the receipts and the form filled out. I guess they don’t trust us over here in the US!
Its hard to read (i’ll send Met a high res copy later) but it also says the original receipts are returned aswell with the Promo car.. so you could you just return the cars you bought for the Promo? Or is that a bit naughty?
NOTHING is returned to us in the US……your promo car arrives in a box or padded envelope, MAYBE with a Mattel shipping ticket. They keep the card backs, the receipts, and I believe they take your first born.
