Mattel Disney Pixar CARS: Color Shift Change My World of CARS …

It brings to mind a song by GREAT LAKE SWIMMERS

You look at me with uncertainty,
You look at me with urgency.
You look at me with fear in your eyes
like you’re about to fall away.

But don’t be afraid to change your colours now.
I’ve known you all Summer, and you rose above it all.
I see you hesitate to fall now,
But it’s a pretty good view from down here, too.

Yep … Your CARS will be soon available as “Color Shifters”

ChickJust like the Hot Wheels Color Shifter CARS – dip them in warm or ice cold water and they will change colors as Dinoco Blue Chick Hicks becomes Dinoco Green (through the magic of stop motion 🙂  ).

DocThey will be available as 2-packs … I guess replacing Movie Moments (now that Movie Moments are Target-only).

Lightning McQueenThese are all-PLASTIC and are not replacing nor a part of the mainline (Not Lenticular nor Final Lap) singles but their own branch just like the all-plastic stunt playset CARS.

Lightning GreenThis is Dinoco Lightning McQueen changing to green McQueen while red Lightning probably changes to yellow or something. I’m pretty sure they can only change one color.

MaterIn theory, they can do metal color changing-shifting but apparently metal takes a while to color change-shift and by then kids and adults (of today) have grown weary and have wandered off to buy another iPhone game via wireless WiFi and do not have the patience to wait for it.So, plastic color shifting it is!

RamoneOf course, you gotta have Ramone … and yes, there is a Ramone House of Art Color Change Playset … no pictures but supposedly, there will be TWO tanks you can add warm and ice water and dunk your CARS to watch them change.

Sarge

Now, Sarge everywhere.

Tex DinocoI guess his spots will change colors also?

I believe RED will also be available – not shown here.

When will they be here? I think Spring 2010.

Here’s what the Hot Wheel Color Shifters packaging looks like …

Color HW

And now back to GREAT LAKE SWIMMERS …

And when the wind takes you, it takes me, too.
When you change colours, I change mine, too.
Try not to think, and I will try to.
When you let go, I will let go, too.

I knew you when you were green and strong.
You were like a feather on a wing, so long.
You know I will miss you when you are gone,
but don’t be afraid if you just can’t hang on.

‘Cause when the wind takes you, it takes me, too.
When you change colours, I change mine, too.
Try not to think and I will try, too.
And when you let go, I will let go, too.

The cold air is pushing hard on you.
I know what you’re saying; I can feel it, too.
You’ll go through changes, and I’ll go through them too.
Don’t be afraid now, don’t be afraid.

‘Cause when the wind takes you, it takes me, too.
When you change colours, I change mine, too.
Try not to think and I will try, too.
And when you let go, I will let go, too

  • jestrjef says:

    um . . . no thanks . . . but if they came out in METAL . . . maybe . . . Ramone changing paint would be AWESOME!!

  • Eric says:

YEAH! Some crappy line of plastic that I actually DON’T have to collect! Seriously, we could use a couple of these “uncollectables” with all of the good stuff coming out. It feels really good to know that there is something Cars related we won’t spend one second of time collecting (besides the minis)! YIPPEE!

  • Steve AKA: Poppa says:

Move these directly to Big Lots! Instead of these, why not produce racing car shells for slot car racing? At least Mattel/Pixar/Disney would be attracting guys with $$$.

    • NO Lenticulars says:

Speaking of Big Lots, I found “Damaged King” and “Impound LM” there last night.

They are quickly becoming my go to store for tracking down the rest of the main line that my daughter has been wanting.

Heck, I figure next year when Mattel dreams up a new line with interchangeable tires and cars that grow bumper hair, I’ll still be shopping at BL, just looking for the rest of the Final Lap cars I couldn’t get at bull’s eye. 😉

    • sunhuntin says:

that is a great idea! ive got like 5 slot car sets that ive bought as “damaged” stock [usually the chassis has been put in the shell on an angle and the wheels wont turn. easily fixed] and its boring having at least 4 docs and mcqueens. although, i sacrificed a mcqueen that had scrapes on the sides and painted up a bolt racer. it looks really rough due to the paint i used, but a few coats of clear nail polish and it looks better.

  • AlbertHinkey says:

    Why?

    WTF?

  • Aaron & Jeanne Scriven says:

sooo ive been reading the general view is these are NOT the fave of course.. which is exactly what i posted earlier LOL but then i was also reading and i agree with you guys in saying these are fantastic for kiddos! Maybe mattel was thinking lol lets come up with something that will FOR SURE appeal to th kids and not so much to the collectors?? and WHAT KID doesnt LOVE playing with stuff in the tub I love that idea!! 😀 apparently we need to have a kid LOL 😀 so again not my fave line, but hey if the kids like em we buy em lol bottom line 😀

    • heinz57baby says:

I agree that kids would like this line to play in the tub or wherever there is water, but kids want any and everything with their favorite character anyway!

I think Mattel is always thinking: “Let’s put Cars on everything and see how many people will buy everything!” “Let’s not finish any one line, and while the public complains about it – they’ll still buy the other incomplete lines too!” And sadly, they’re right.

I am not a fish – I refused to get “reeled” in!

  • These are a “maybe” for us. My son has the color changing HWs and the playset which he loves so I’m going to keep an open-mind. It’s just another form of Cars play for kids which is fine by me. The color change HW packaging is pretty cool so if the Cars package design is anything like that then I think I might have to pick up a set to keep in package and a set for play.

I wasn’t crazy about the Lenticulars coming out but once I saw them in their awesome packaging I had to collect them. Even my son has warmed up to the Lenticulars now that we found case C and saw that the eyes on certain Cars move differently. 🙂

    • John in Missouri says:

Yes, Flo for one is pretty cool!

The packaging is AWESOME on the lenticulars, I just want all the Final Lap Cars to come out before they start making repeats!

  • NO Lenticulars says:

Kids loved these during testing sessions right?

Are they made from recycled plastic milk jugs?

When Cars World opens at Disneyland in two years am I going to be able turn these in at each ride and cut to the front of the line?

Help me out Mattel! Please tell me one of the above statements is true, otherwise you’ve just created a new line of peg warmers.

    • John in Missouri says:

To the contrary, do you know how many kids will want these when they see them? My kids absolutely love the Hot Wheels kind, but add a little personality to them with Cars, and Shazam!!!

      • NO Lenticulars says:

Sweet, then the answer to my first question is “yes”; kids loved them during testing sessions. 🙂

        • John in Missouri says:

Great name by the way! 🙂

        • TJH-AZ says:

You actually think Mattel TESTED these or for that matter, ANYTHING related to Hot Wheels, Matchbox or CARS?
The group responsible for these things are soooo FAR above themselves at Mattel, they would never stand for having ANYONE test their ideas. C’mon, they just tell the big dogs that they’ve got another GREAT idea and off it goes to production. Let’s see, Speed Racer Hot Wheels, hmmmm, yeah, those were turds. The 50 state Hot Wheels, another steamy pile. Oh, and are clearenced at WalMart right now for $2. Great price for the case, the car can go to charity. I see the color changers all the time at Target and WalMart and the pegs are pretty full every time. Do they sell, maybe, but reading some of the posts above it seems that these are useful for a couple weeks and then not so much. And then it will come down to price. If they’re priced the same as the Hot Wheels, maybe they’ll sell some, but is it enough to create a whole line, with the molds and all that? Just think back to the mistakes that have been made by this group at Mattel and it’s pretty easy to see that they feel untouchable. And maybe they’re right.

  • PCC says:

I’m a kid at heart, so i say they are kewl!

  • gervart says:

this may seem lame for us but lets not forget that these are for kids 😀

  • The Pit Stop says:

What a Pitty! and I mean the other Pitty…as in pitiful. I do understand the concept though, to raise sales for 3+ age groups is who there marketing to…so great for the kids, but as a collector, NO thanks!!!. Do Hotwheels collectors collect their version of the color shifters? I hope not. Atleast it’s nice to see that DB’s, SC, WOC, RoR Hard eyes are going to be definite classics. Respect the classics man!

  • TarheelBill says:

The R&D Dept. must have REALLY been having a bad day when they came up with this! 😯

  • Mike says:

Why not just repackage all the Cars like those ’50 States Hot Wheels’ cars?

I’m referring to the Hot Wheels that each come with a plastic case, and when all 50 are combined, they form a US Flag on the other side.

Imagine that ‘technique’ combined with the CARS movie poster-collect ‘x’ amount of cars to create your own CARS poster on the other side!

  • ScoobyDoo says:

    Pointless

  • MiaSenorita says:

Hahahha, I am for one actually excited about these. We have been wanting to get the color changing hot wheels for my kids to play with in the bath.. but just haven’t yet. So even better, cars! He always wants cars and trucks to play with in the bath, and these work for that great. Even if they stop changing colors at least they can go in the bath tub without rusting…. Bring ’em on!

    • Samuel says:

I hadn’t thought of that, but very true — MiaSenorita always the optimist. 🙂

    • Matersgrlfriend says:

I am with you MiaSenorita! We actually just bought a Hot Wheels color change playset and the boys LOVE it! They love it so much it made them sing a “We love our Mommy” song. The color change thing is pretty darn cool and they really have fun switching the color and you can even make designs in each of the colors using a paintbrush with the cold or hot water.

These are not meant for collectors guys. They are just fun toys for kids.

      • MiaSenorita says:

Now if these would just come out at the same price as the hot wheels… which I am sure they won’t. But wouldn’t that be great! Aren’t they around $3 a piece for the color change hot wheels?

But I do like 5oclock’s idea of them being an Easter special or something like that. Then i can get them on major Target clearance afterwards!!!

      • jmularczyk says:

Cheers to that! No doubt these will be a hit with my son. I’ll pick up a couple of these but I’m not going to stop at Walmart, Target and TRU constantly to find them like I do for the other ones. Part of the reason I like the Minis so much is because when the transformers pay a visit and start smashing Geotrack/Cars town I don’t have to cringe about paint chips on the cars. On another note, I finally broke down and bought my first lenticular car today. I couldn’t pass up Sarge!

        • MiaSenorita says:

Hahahhahaha, this sounds just like OUR house. Transformers are always crashing GeoTrax and cars while I cringe…. Guess it’s my son’s way of telling me he is done with that layout…. 🙂

          • jmularczyk says:

yea I messed up and let the 3 year old watch the transformer cartoon and parts of the 1st movie. I constantly move the 1:55 cars away from the race tracks and move in the hotwheels and minis – I’m actually suprised at how good he has been taking care of the disney cars.

        • MiaSenorita says:

On another, related note.. I also love the plastic 1:55 cars that come with the playsets because they become sacrificial lambs to figure 8 of death race track. Then the die casts can be saved for “safer” play.

    • Mariela says:

I wasn’t sure if I like or not but now that I’m thinking about it…you are right! My son had some cars to play in the bath tub, but they started to get rusty, so hopefully this won’t.

  • Daniel says:

Samuel…this is where the Karma thing kick in. LOL

    • Samuel says:

      🙂

but unfortunately there are still enough consumers who lack the ability to discern quality products from nonquality and will likely still buy these up!

  • John in Missouri says:

If Lenticulars were Mattel’s sign of jumping the shark, then these are certainly their way of jumping the Lochness Monster!

    • 5oclockshadow says:

lol… I was thinking the same thing….. Mattel is milking this line for all its worth…

I can see these working as a limited Easter release…. but trying to create a full line of these will backfire on them….

  • CaptainChunk says:

    Yeah, uhh how about, No.

  • EM says:

ppffffftttt! Mattel is diluting a great thing.

  • Samuel says:

No thanks! But Mater looks interesting in green.

  • Roswell says:

mattel executive: “the googly eyed leticulars arnt not selling well enough! we must not sell more! i know! make them plastic and colour changing! yeah, this fachise will be dead in no time! >:D”

  • cac1959 says:

This one is easy to say “No” to. No!

  • L8rM8r says:

So my son has a few of these from the Hotwheels line and one even came with a play set where you have hot and cold water to dunk them in to make the color change, but the issue is they don’t really work after the first week. I am not sure what the deal is, but at first they worked with just body heat, but after the first week the never seemed to change back. I finally had to put it in the freezer to get it to go back to the other color. I was not very impressed. I think my son liked the box better with the slider that would show the change.

    • zachsmom says:

lol that sounds exactly like ours. Zach was really excited for them at first, but now they dont change and he doesnt understand why and keeps telling me its broken. We might pick up a few, since he seems to think they are so great!

  • PirateDad says:

Another money grab….kids will prolly like it, so Jeanne in MO will prolly like it!!! heeheee

    • Aaron & Jeanne Scriven says:

hahaha thanks pd 😀 ehhh depending on the price we may get some just for fun for our friends kids .. you know me LOL if they like them we will get some if not… these are definitely not my fav.

  • BrianD says:

    Like the others… no thanks.

  • Blake from MN says:

This makes me not want to collect anymore. first the price jump to 5.00 per car and now this. What a joke. And I am one who usually defends mattel and disney. screw you guys.

  • Micky says:

Although the Ramone color change car/playset is a theme in the movie, the others are well….I’ll be kind and just say, no thanks.

  • collectormom says:

Plastic? No thanks; although Tex looking interesting. Found Lenticulars and Megasize RS Mater at the PX of all places
