Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: 2009 Super (Diecast) Convention – Las Vegas

A brand new major diecast show-convention is being launched by DiecastSpace.com February 19-22 in Las Vegas (the one in Nevada 🙂 ).

“For the first time ever collectors will be able to meet with designers from Mattel (Hot Wheels), RC2 (Johnny Lightning, GreenLight Collectibles, M2 Machines, RideMakerz, and many more under the same roof.”

(NO CARS designers if you want to ask the obvious question …).

It looks like you have a huge amount of activities going on – what a quick over-view of everything going on?

We’ve set Thursday aside basically for a registration and appreciation day.  Of course, the first event is an opening ceremony.  Later that night, there’s two parties taking place for DCS to show appreciation for the support from our sponsors and newsletter members.

Friday and Saturday are carrying full loads with Autograph Sessions,  Customizers Seminar, Customs Contest, Downhill Racing, Charity Auction, and parties hosted by Mattel as well as Liberty Promotions, which all are accessible with the general admission pass.

There are also quite a few special events such as Diecast Bingo, the RideMakerz Designerz Luncheon, a Poker Tournament, a Saturday Charity Breakfast, and Sunday’s Farewell Breakfast.  Tickets for the Farewell Breakfast and RideMakerz Designerz Luncheon are still available.  There are promotional vehicles for each of these special events.

Also on Friday evening, the inaugural Diecast Hall of Fame Induction Dinner & Ceremony will be taking place.  DiecastSpace has selected 24 individuals to be honored this year in five different categories.  Your readers can find more information regarding this event at www.diecasthalloffame.com.  This is definitely one of the most prestigious events taking place during the convention.  The dinner & ceremony package is sold out, but ceremony tickets are still available for $10 each from the “Buy Tickets” tab at www.spinyourtires.com

Saturday evening is also scheduled with a dinner, where DCS will be honoring at least 3 of the most famous designers in the world.  This event has fittingly been dubbed the “Legends Dinner.”  Guests of Honor for this event include “The King of Kustomizers” George Barris, Tom Daniel, and Hot Wheels designer Larry Wood, who is celebrating his 40th year with Mattel this year.  Tickets to this event is also sold out! There have been special event cars produced for both dinners.

Of course, our TakeFive readers are most interested in the diecasts?

It wouldn’t be right to host a diecast convention without having convention cars available to the collectors.  DCS has produced at least 20 different castings, which will display either the DiecastSpace.com or Official Convention logos.  There are also manufacturers and suppliers such as Johnny Lightning, Greenlight Collectibles, M2 Machines, Shelby Collectibles, Liberty Promotions, Milezone, and Collectables Corner that have all produced limited edition vehicles with the featured logos as well.  Other featured sponsor exhibits attendees can visit include Hot Wheels, RideMakerz, The Custom Crew, Carney Plastics, Tom Daniel Properties, The Car Room Magazine, and Diehard Diecast.

Throughout the duration of the convention the diecast convention ritual of “in-room” or “room-to-room” trading will be taking place.  DCS has been told earlier this week by Circus Circus management, the original three floor room block reserved for Super Convention attendees is full and at least two more floors have been added.  Each floor contains 33 rooms and with ticket sales projecting to reach nearly 1000 by the February 13th deadline, expect one of the greatest in-room trading events ever.

Also taking place during the duration of the convention will be souvenir, vendor, and sponsor sales.  The ballroom foyer and sections of the ballroom have been reserved for these reasons.

Sunday has been left open for a large Diecast Toy Show and a closing ceremony.  The vendor and sponsor exhibits will still be attended and opened to a 75+ table toy show in the grand ballroom.  Vendor tables for the toy show were sold out in early December, so expect a full house for this show.

I would also like to inform you of the awesome 1:1 scale cars that will be put on display during the convention.  There’s a total of six cars which include the Barris original “Kitt” from the 80’s television series Knightrider, Bill Neal’s famed Terlingua Shelby Cobra, a late model Shelby GT500 Super Snake, Mattel’s “Twinmill,” George Doty’s NHRA “Crazy Horse,” and one car left as a secret.

Sounds like a fun time. There are some hand-customized Mattel Pixar CARS that kids can win.

So, if you’re in Vegas between the 19th and the 22nd of February, stop by to check it out. We’ll try and get photos for you so if you can’t make it – it’ll be like you’re there!
