This year Dad and Mom were the only participants in the event. They braved pouring rain, flooding, and mud slides to claim the newest Cars for my friends and me. The area around my hometown, Riverton, Wyoming, is experiencing some of the worst flooding in recorded history. I’m not sure if that is what kept folks away this time or if there just wasn’t enough advertising. Dad said that other than the flier in the Sunday paper, there was no other indication that the event was scheduled. He said that his store didn’t even receive the posters they had in times past.

They are coming to visit this week, so my cars are on their way!

Thanks for all the information you provide on your web-site. It makes it easier for those of us collecting when we know what Dad needs to be keeping an eye out for! 🙂

My brother in Denver has even joined the cause. He found the first set of Mia, Tia and Flo waitresses! Both my brother and my Dad will be spending this Thursday driving around Denver looking for any cars I’m missing and for more of the waitress sets.

My friend, Fran, is the owner of the MidPoint Cafe in Adrian, Texas.So named because it is the halfway point between Chicago and Los Angles on Route 66. She is the inspiration for Flo in the movie. Two of the girls who work for her were the inspirations for Mia and Tia. They are going to autograph the cars and sell them in the gift shop this summer! Sounds like fun, doesn’t it?!

Saga of Super Dad
Armed with the “List” & his trusty cell phone,
Super Dad ‘s off to the “Event” but not all alone
His side kick is with him with her camera in tow.
Must have all the excitement on pictures, you know!

Out of the car, sloshing thru pelting rain,
To be out in this weather is totally INSANE!
But he’s not even daunted by the record breaking flood,
Or that all the area around us is covered with mud!

Into K-Mart we dash, grab a basket, & head for the back,
These aisles sure make a super racetrack!
We skid around a corner, & stop on a dime.
Hurray! Hurray! We arrive a head of time!

An empty table is all that we see.
I look at him he looks at me.
Look! Here they come with a cart full of “Cars”,
For being so prompt they both get gold stars!

The boxes are placed out on the table.
“Synthetic Rubber Tires” is printed on the label.
I look around, what happened? There are no customers but us!
Now Super Dad can search for needed cars without any fuss!

A box they hand to him, “Can I open it?” he asks with a gleam in his eye.
“Only if you want to,” replies that generous guy.
He needs 4 sets of the 8 cars with rubberized tires.
5 Dale Earnhardt Jr. & 1 Ron Hover will satisfy his discriminating buyers.

Now off to the check stand with his treasures for to pay,
Thank Goodness! This has been a very exhausting day!
Hey, did you know he’s a celebrity with a special claim to fame?
The reason is at K-Mart, they all know him by his first name!
