Mattel Disney Pixar Diecast CARS: 5 Packs Errors – It Wasn’t Me …

Ahh, finally time for a break, that 5-pack filling machine practically runs by itself – what could go wrong?

I think these photos are from opposite coasts …

From “Gary C.”

And from “Mariela P.”

I think this is a little too large of a scale of in-store tampering and swapping – I could be wrong but I think this actually occurred at the factory – either the guy pilfered all the Mia & Tia’s to sell off on eBay or the quality control guy took a break and whatever will fit in the box – there ya go – no point in walking all the way to the other side to get more red CARS, seen one, seen them all.

“I Am Speed” sends in a late entry where repairs were made …

Man, that Guinness 20W-50 is heavy.

So, as your grandpa told you, “Look before you leap,” and “Extra Crispy on the Squirrel.”

It’s a cliche but it’s what true is true.

I wonder if that squirrel is drinking a coffee/acorn blend? My grandfather use to tell of going into the forests of Germany in the 1890’s and picking up acorns to ‘extend’ coffee beans, which cost a heck of a lot of money back then. You probably pay extra for that at Starbucks now!

Ah, I was all set to send in pics for my first Take 5 “scoop” – oh well. Saw these at three different stores in So Cal. LAME!

But Mattel is REALLY on my “rhymes with wit” list due to the JLU Lobo selling out in 5 hours. Sheesh. Thanks for the Matty “collector” site – the only ones who “collected” that were the Ebayers with no real jobs.

    • 5oclockshadow says:

I have an extra Lobo from Matty. You can have him for cost + shipping.

      • LoolarMcQueen says:

Sweet – thank you, sir! How do I get in contact with you?

Thanks 5oclock – I will email from home this evening (about 4 hours). My son and I appreciate it! Though I must confess, we’ve gone back to watching Super Friends, when I thought JLU was getting a little too intense for him (much as I love it). He still gets to play with most of his figures while he watches, thanks to the Legion of Doom! I think he’ll love Lobo, though (he loves the big ones like Grodd, Grundy and Ultra-Humanite).

  • Damian says:

I saw them today and pointed it out to a TRU Asst. Manager. Ok…he says…I asked him to make the Mattel Rep buy them back at the store.

Now I have that Shaggy song stuck in my head …

I had her in the shower … It wasn’t me …
she even had me on camera … It wasn’t me …

  • Mike H says:

Reminds me of the Simpsons where Marge orders a weight-loss audio tape for Homer to play while he sleeps.

(guy at factory goes to ‘Subliminally Slim’ tape rack, only to find it empty)

Guy 1: We’re out of ‘Subliminally Slim.’

Guy 2: Meh, send him a vocabulary builder.

(guy picks up audio tape to help with vocabulary, and sends it off)

  • BMW says:

And the error sets are showing up on ebay of course. Its the same factory who packed two Mias in the Flo’s V8 Set along with lenticular Mater.

    • Steve AKA: Poppa says:

Yes, eBay has several listings at $28 and $35. These are not ‘errors’ of any collectible nature. The sets should be pulled by the retailer, returned to Mattel or severely discounted as junk/damaged goods. Haphazard packaging does not constitute an error in my book. Yeah, just open two boxes same size boxes and exchange the contents. Instant junk error! Don’t waste your money-even at retail.

    • BMW says:

One Flo’s v8 Cafe set I found has a curved spout on Flo’s oil can.

  • Man-I-Fold says:

Yes, definitely have seen these errors in Chicago area, as well as the caffeine-pilfering squirrels. Also, all of the rubber tire Transberry Juice in at least 3 Chicago KMarts have headlight decal errors – they are way too low and/or crooked. Was the whole run like this for all cases or are we just particularly unlucky here?

    • Stig McQueen says:

Can’t speak to the whole run, but every Transberry Juice at my local Kmart (mid-Atlantic region) had the misplaced headlight decals, too.

(Where are Jimmy Neutron’s error-deleting nanobots when you really need them?)

  • JustForThought says:

These “so called” error packs are deliberate – how else can Mattel sell all the “McQueens” that NO one wants?

Just another way to get collectors to spend MORE money on the same things?!?

  • MackDaddy says:

Saw the same thing at my TRU in CA. Major SNAFU!! (system normal all f@#$*d up) 😯

    • Stig McQueen says:

Honestly, what more can we really expect when production is outsourced to overseas sweatshops in countries where the locals don’t understand the language or the product, and “performance” is measured according to “metrics” instead of what actually goes in the box?!!?

And of course, when these items are still warming the pegs in 6 months, Mattel will conclude — via data analysis — that interest in this product line has gone, and will phase it out. The major retailes won’t notice, either, since their inventory systems treat them all as a single product.

Of course, maybe all of the Ebay scalpers will snatch up all the “errors”, creating a measurable impact on demand and production will actually increase! Maybe Mattel will get it right in the next run, and the Ebay scalpers will have been stuck with so many unsold “errors” that they’ll stay away!

  • kdthomas says:

Same here. Two of the 3 sets that were at a nearby TRU had these mixed up sets. Here’s a reenactment at the factory:

Worker #1: “Hey we’re out of the Mia’s & Tia’s. Can you go get us some more?”

Manager: “Sure, what color are those babies?”

    Worker #1: “Red”

Manager: “Oh those…no problem, yeah we’ve got PLENTY of those!”

    (rolls over McQueens)

    • NascarFan says:

reminds me of Dale Jr Nascar Rc car sales teachings.

Seller: Oh its Dale Jr #8 and its red…

Me: Yea but does it SAY Budweiser?

Seller: No, but its Dale Jr #8 and Red.

Me: If it doesnt it SAY Budweiser then its not the Budweiser car right?

Seller: but its Dale Jr #8 and Red

Me: Then its not the Dale Jr #8 Budweiser car

Seller: You know what sir.. your whats wrong with ebay.

Me: Hows that? Dont you want to know if your buying a Dale Jr #8 Budweiser car or a generic red rc car? I guess you wouldnt want your seller to be honest in the description

      Seller: Who gives a ****…. ????

Me: I would guess the buyers would.

I went to the ToysRUs in Panama City and saw 3 boxs with the same error. They had Ron, Tow, and the 3 different Lightning McQueen

  • L8rM8r says:

That is nuts the one on the top even has Hank in there. No way that someone tampered with the package. That is too funny, although I guess not too funny if you were actually looking for the correct box sets.

I have also read people reporting that the box set with waitress Mia Tia have the wrong tray with only one can of oil instead of two. Very minor but still continuing with the QA issues.

    • cac1959 says:

I have friends in 3 states who have seen the TRU Flo’s V8 Cafe Gift Pack with Lenticular Mater, 2 Mia, and 0 Tia… And some have reported seeing variants of Flo with a curved oil spout as opposed to a straight oil spout…

And what’s most amazing to me… on the bottom of Mia and Tia, it says Mazba MX Miata… they didn’t even spell Mazda correctly… I can send a picture if you’d like to see it…

  • erno2 says:

Its the dream set I’ve been waiting for with 3 McQueens! Sarcasm.

I saw this type of stuff at my Toys R Us so its obviously some kind of major goof up at the plant.
