Party City & Amazon to Fill the Holiday Giraffe Sized Hole

While we won’t have TRU around this holiday-Christmas season – Amazon & Party City has plans to cover the Giraffe Sized Hole.


“Party City plans to operate 50 pop-up toy stores from September through the holiday-shopping season, possibly in former locations of the defunct chain, executives said in an interview. The assortment will include top brands from Hasbro Inc. and Mattel Inc. and plenty of Santa suits and stockings for Christmas”

“In a drive to win the business up for grabs after the demise of Toys “R” Us Inc., the online giant is going conventional with plans to publish a holiday toy catalog, according to people with knowledge of the strategy. The printed guide will be mailed to millions of U.S. households and handed out at Whole Foods Market locations, the grocery chain Amazon bought last year, said the people, who asked not to be named because the plan isn’t public.”

    That’s assuming Mattel makes anything. They’ve removed the Cars sections of their own website completely.

    I have a feeling there is a big shake up coming now that Lasseter is out the door, in disgrace.

    I love the idea of Party City doing pop-up toy stores. A lot of stores in my area are still overflowing with Lightning McQueen and Natalie Certain from the original wave. They are not going to sell them before the holidays. If Party City swoops in with the 2018 wave from Mattel, they might just have a leg up on everyone else.
