Mattel Disney CARS 2 Diecast: High Res Look at Wave 2

These are coming after the summer …

Carlo Maserati

Mel Dorado.

Something about him looks awfully familiar …

Clark Kento?

Tex Axelrod?

Dweeb O’Dinoco?

I don’t recall him in the movie at all – but clearly an easy addition to the lineup.

Petrov “Color Corrected” Trunkov?

During the movie CARS 2, Petrov is pretty much blue so it looks like he has been color corrected. Will he appear in the original Petrov #18 card?

Will be be named one of the half dozen names assigned to Petrov?

Should we have a contest to guess the name on his card?

Met the color corrected petrov is Vladmir Trunkov. Thanks to some pixar wikipedia help I looked up Vladmir’s page and it showed this die-cast as Vladmir Trunkov prototype.

  • D J says:

well similar to antonio, tex, and petrov. it looks like a brand new model for mel dorato? whatever his name is. but carlolooks like shumakers friends model.

  • slicepie says:

Hehe… I see a car with one too many hood ornaments! ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

  • Mike Manifold says:

Manifold Jr. says, “A car with glasses, now that is interesting!”

  • Fillmore1234 says:

Vladimir Trunkov and Petrov Trunkov are 2 different characters. Petrov Trunkov is during the Oil Rig Chase scene, and Vladimir Trunkov is the Lemon Head of the Trunkov Family. So now my Lemon Wishlist is:
    1. Alexander Hugo
    2. Victor Hugo
    3. J. Curby Gremlin
    4. Tubbs Pacer
    5. Pacer w/ Blowtorch and Mask
    6. Gremlin w/ Blowtorch and Mask
    7. Brown Colored Trunkov
    8. Grem w/ TV Camera (Deluxe)

    • Mike Manifold says:

I’m with you on these. Finally a Vladimir Trunkov to rival the excellent Disney Store wave 1 version. They should definitely release the bosses of all 4 lemon gangs soon. Are you the Fillmore1234 that lives on the western edge of Illinois? If so, did you find the KMart exlcusive chief 2-packs out there? I saw the remnants of a case in Montgomery, IL just a few days ago.

    • Micky says:

I only saw the movie once so I’m not up on all the Trunkovs yet. I’ll have to wait for the DVD before I really get a handle on the characters. Oh, so Vladimir is the one with the white stripe and Petrov is the solid one. Is that correct?

      • Fillmore1234 says:

That’s me, Manifold! And no, I haven’t found any. Our K-Mart’s 2-Pack Pegs are full of Case A and B Contents. No Exclusives.

Micky- Yep. Vladimir Trunkov is the one with a Yellow Stripe and Petrov is solid whatever color he is. Marine? Chartreuse? Aqua? Any other guesses?

        • Mike Manifold says:

Fillmore, nice to talk with you again. I’d keep an eye on your KMart if I were you, if you are keen on the crew chiefs. It appears that they’ve come and gone ultra fast, thus far, like a Hot Wheels Treasure Hunt. Who knows, maybe they’ll be on the pegs in abundance eventually, like the exclusive Pit Crew Maters are now. Good luck!

          • Fillmore1234 says:

Hopefully. And was I the only one who constantly searched the globe for these golden colored Hot Wheels? They might have been similar to Trasure Hunts, becaus ethey were hard to find. It was during 2007 I think. One of the 4 Gold Cars was an Army Jeep which I used for Sarge until I found him. I found my final one I needed at a lonely Dollar General in rural Camp Point, IL. Will probably go check my K-Mart for Crew Chiefs on my usual rounds tomorrow.

        • BMW says:

Micky- Yep. Vladimir Trunkov is the one with a Yellow Stripe and Petrov is solid whatever color he is. Marine? Chartreuse? Aqua? Any other guesses

In the collector’s special edition the coloring of Petrov is just as you said. Petrov is a tiny bit greener than the toy is, but overall a good job on the paint match.

I don’t see a Vladimir in the collector special edition. If he is in the comic, its different from the toy pictured here.

  • Dinocoblue says:

Carlo Maserati looks amazing, I can’t wait to get my hands on him!

  • jestrjef says:

Sweet to see new cars … but … sadly …. they aren’t all that new ….. the are repaints …. very nice repaints … and I look forward to finding them …. but still … repaints of old cars with new names …

    WAIT …

I GET IT NOW!! This rolls right in with the undercover spy theme … that is really Antonio in DISQUISE!! Does Carlo’s red suit come off to reveal Antonio?? …. and mild mannered Tex Dinoco by day and SUPER REPORTER Mel Dorado at night!Pop off glasses and “hair piece” to reveal Tex??? ๐Ÿ˜†

I do love the paint job on that Trunkvo …. which ever one he is! ๐Ÿ˜€

  • hostile takeover banker says:

Very nice cars! Can’t wait for these.

  • bobbyjack says:

Looks like Carlo will be joining his other white and green Maserati friends in our collection. Never got Dex the promoter but we do have Tex. Mel’s glasses make him different enough to want to get. He will be hanging out with the other Talk Show host, Jay Limo! Bring on more Lemons! These are cars we want to get. New characters. Might not be new molds, but at least they are different cars.

  • corinne says:

cool , they look great !

  • Micky says:

Mattel is finally correcting Petrov. The Disney Store version is Vladimir Trunkov. They had it right all along.

New name: “My name is not Petrov”

  • John in Missouri says:

For the color corrected car’s name, how about “Brand New Petrov”?
